I visited Wildwire Wanaka in late Dec with my 2 teenage boys. We had a blast! We booked Upper with the option to go to the next stage. Two of us chose to go to the next stage, and it was worth it. The staff was great and made sure we were safe at any time. The staff went above and beyond and went into the waterfall pond to look for the iPhone one of my sons dropped during his climb. And he found it (THANK YOU Mark)!!! Incredibly the iPhone was still functional, but the experience was a good lesson for my son. The experience was truly one of a kind. I recommend this to anyone who wants to experience Via Ferrata in an awesome natural waterfall setting.

We originally booked onto wildwire in July, but couldn’t climb due to injury (the team were amazingly understanding about this!) We were devastated, so booked on again in December to tackle the lord of the rungs (level 3) climb. We were super lucky with amazing weather, but the team were really communicative from the start about what would happen if rain came in, how we would be safe etc. The team were awesome, answering questions and making you feel safe. Practice boulders allowed you to get comfortable with the clipping and unclipping of the harnesses so you felt super confident on the climb. The first 2 levels were pretty straightforward for anyone with moderate fitness: fun things like hanging from bridges and sticking hands into the waterfall were good suggestions by the guide. There were only 2 of us with our guide so we got to go at our own pace. At the top of level 2 we had our lunch (the deli panini and brownie are amazing!), and then we were talked through exactly what would happen on the final bit of the climb. This was harder than before, with the first overhang the hardest, but my guide was on hand the whole time and I knew he would have helped me if I’d not been able to. Immensely proud that I hauled myself up by myself! When we reached the top we felt so proud and the helicopter down was the coolest way to end the day. I’d recommend this activity to anyone: for LOTR you’d need to be fairly fit and adventurous, but at no point did I feel unsafe and this has definitely been a highlight of our time in NZ. Thanks team wildwire!

My teenage son and I did the stage 3 Lord of the Rungs trip right to the top of the waterfall, with the chopper flight back, and on a beautiful clear sky hot day. Though this is about the most expensive day trip I’ve done in NZ, it was unique and I’d highly recommend it. It was more challenging than I expected and certainly scary if you are afraid of heights. Easy for experienced rock climbers like my son. I always felt safe, with top notch equipment provided and installed on the via ferrata. Also great guides. Highly recommend if you are adventurous and reasonably fit.

Looking for something different to do with your staff? We had 8 landscapers all fizzing after their trip up the waterfall on the via ferrata. The right mix of scary, physical, scenic and a great way to spend time with your work mates. Bbq afterwards and buses to and from town made this the perfect afternoon. Mark and the team did their best to accommodate us and were flexible on price too, so just ask the question.

Incredibly accomodating experience. Excellent communication for booking experience, were given the option to cancel with forecasted rain. Chose to proceed with a light sprinkle. Super patient and professional guides. Guides split group to allow more guidance for members who needed it. Lunch was sourced from cafe in town - delicious sandwiches, wraps and brownies. Bought a thermos as a souvenir, kept heat for over a day. Great views despite weather. A rewarding and worthwhile experience!

Maddie our guide was professional and very mature. The views were spectacular.
Very safe activity though quite challenging for a 5 foot person of 55 (albeit very fit)
The height and span reach was an issue although advertised as fine for kids over 9
I really enjoyed this and highly recommend
There are 3 levels
We did 2 levies in a beautiful autumn day in sunshine with another much younger couple
Value for money

This was a fantastic experience. At 68, I look forward to challenges of mind and body. Level 3, of Lord of the Rungs definitely satisfied my desire for a challenge. It was made more special by Kate, who developed a comfortable rapport with Perhaps I surprised her?!I highly recommend this challenge for anyone who wants to push their own boundaries and experience something adventurous and exciting, Thank you so much for having such a wonderful activity.

Two adults and two boys aged 13, one with Down Syndrome and non-verbal, as a group with guide Maddie. The boys were a bit weary when we arrived, however the practice climb and the phenomenal guidance made them feel comfortable and confident. The climb has been a memorable experience for all of us, the boys already made plans for level 2 and 3 next time, thanks very much!

Level 3 lord of the rungs
Had the BEST day. The team is amazing and made the whole experience so so much fun. My wife was a little worried about doing the the entire waterfall but Connie was awesome and took her time so we could stop and enjoy the spectacular views along the way. She even got to push her boundaries a little. Will definitely be recommending to any family or friends coming to wanaka.

My brother and I booked the level 2 climb and had an absolutely amazing time! This is by far the best via ferrata I’ve come across. The views of the landscape and waterfalls were breathtaking. The climb lasted about three hours and the hike down took about 30 minutes, making this experience well worth the price compared to booking an bungee jump or parasail. Our guide David was awesome, encouraging and very knowledgeable. I can’t recommend this experience enough!
