I spent 7 night in Wanaka. It's a beautiful scenic town in the edge of the lake. A pretty small town with beautiful scenery surrounded by mountains . Spring is a lovely time to visit, cool at night with sunny days. It did snow on the mountains once. Wanaka boasts many restaurants . It has 2 small supermarkets . Some... More

If you have been to Queenstown and thought it was crazy and full pack of tourists, come on down to Wanaka. It doesn't have loads of tourist attractions but if you're looking for a great quiet place to chill and spectacular scenery to boot, look no further!

Wanaka is such a nice little town, probably most famous for it’s nitwork, but also the restaurants is highly recommendable – in that sentence I’ll have to recommend you to go for one of the many salmon dishes (this actually applies for the whole South island). In for some adrenalin - then Wanaka skydive is the company you wanna go... More

Totally worth the hour aprox drive from Queenstown through the mountain range (only if your ok driving windy mountain roads) Great scenery and awesome spots to stop off for photos including the great Cardrona hotel The lake is stunning and I highly recommend sticking around and trying some of the water sports on offer or taking a nice stroll around... Weather was perfect, very scenic with snow on mountain tops around the lake, street trees and flowers in bloom - very picturesque! Lovely walks to go on around the lake. Must check out that famous willow tree in the lake! We took a drive to the Blue pools on the Haast- Makorora Road. About an hour's drive - so totally... More

We didn't have as long in Wanaka as we would have liked but it is a pretty, compact town with beautiful lakeside areas and nice restaurants and accommodation options. Walking around town and the lake is very easy and the scenery is just stunning. Mount Iron just out of town is well worth climbing.

Wanaka was a very quiet small town on a nice big lake with wonderful views to the alpine mountains of New Zealand. Ten years ago. Meanwhile it seems that the "action people" from Queenstown came to Wanaka to have a second Queenstown soon. What a pity. Last time I was here I thought: well, this is the place for older... More

Wanaka is a wonderful place to visit, and many visitors, like myself, end up fantasizing about living there. The setting is stunning, on the south end of Lake Wanaka. The town is totally walkable, and mostly flat. Unlike many resort communities that are somewhat limited in their world view, Wanaka has just about everything a person could want: a relatively... This would have to be one of New Zealand's treasures. There is everything here you could possible want. Snow skiing, water skiing, mountain biking, walking tracks, golf course and friendly people.
