Wanaka is absolutely amazing. Its a cute wee town that has everything you need. Supermarket, cafes, bars, restaurants. Fantastic scenery, in all seasons. We had the snowy mountain tops and beautiful sunshine over the blossom trees. There is lots of activities close by. Its only a short drive to Queenstown, or Cromwell. We enjoyed our three night stay in Wanaka... More

Wanaka is a must visit place in the region. The views around the lake are magnificent and change throughout the day with the light on the snow capped mountains. It has a great low key, relaxed and friendly feel. The food we ate here was consistently some of the best we experienced in the South Island with a good variety.

The town itself seems to be going through a bit of a rapid expansion after the sealed road between Queenstown and Wanaka has been finished. Lake Wanaka is the key sight-seeing attraction, with the town not offering too much other than accommodation, and a good range of places to eat and drink with friends. There's Puzzling World you can drop... More

Every time we visit we discuss how we can move to this beautiful lakeside town. The town offers great food, easy access to the nearby skifields and stunning lake views. The perfect winter destination!

Love the lakeside feel of this place. Great little bars and restaurants and the scenery is simply breathtaking. A little quieter than Queenstown but still as pretty.

Wanaka is a delightful town with things to do all year round but with two distinct seasons summer and winter. Enjoy the lake and associated activities in summer or head to the snowfields in winter. Fabulous.

Busy town during ski season with easy access to local ski fields. Plenty of accommodation ranging from backpackers to luxury and plenty in between. Many places to eat or drink. A lot quieter/less busy than Queenstown but with the same great attractions on hand. Definitely recommend a stay in Wanaka at any time of the year.

Love Wanaka. Isn't as hectic as Queenstown and the little shops, cafes and pubs are always great to visit. It is slowly becoming very busy so expect ques and the local supermarket.

We came here to eat at a French restaurant but were attracted by the beautiful lakeside walk and its quirky "time trail". In the end we quit our hotel in Queenstown to stay here. Really liked the place - good for families, nice atmosphere.
