This is a great little independent theater. They have food and drinks you can order before the movie, for intermission (yes, they pause the movie half way through), or for after the movie. They even have gluten free options!

Had some spare time atnight to spend in Wanaka , where we decided to see the movie robin hood just showing there. Cinema paradiso looks very cool as a family run place and very interesting concept of having an intermission in a movie and enjoying...More

We had heard good things about this cinema and it certainly didn't disappoint. The staff are really friendly, the food and drink options are good and well priced, and the cinema experience is excellent. Good screen and sound and really comfortable quirky chairs. Great to...More

Enjoyed going to this cinema on a wet day whilst on a brief visit to Wanaka. Staff were friendly and cheerful. It has a terrific atmosphere and was very comfortable. The food and drinks choices were great too.

We had no idea that this wasn’t just your average cinema when going to Paradiso. We went time night and was told there was no seats and had to book! So we did and we are glad we came back! Although the theatre is only...More

Love, love, loved this place! So glad this was recommended to us. Such an eclectic place with old cars, church pews, and random couches. Also loved the intermission halfway through the movie! Great to get another one of their homemade snacks!

We revisited Cinema Paradiso on a recent return to Wanaka. The cinema has lost none of it's charm. The intermission is a delight, with the opportunity to grab a drink, and some freshly baked cookies. Eclectic seating is delightful.

Wanaka-TeAnau-Milford-Te Anau-Queenstown (7 nights) (16 Replies)
We have will have a car while we are in Wanaka (1 night), Te Anau (2 nights) with day trip to Milford, then will need to return the car the night that we return to Queenstown (or at 11am the next morning). Any suggestions to maximize our visit while we have the car? Other things to see? My husband probably won't go on any long or steep hikes so please recommend some good scenic, yet not too difficult shorter hikes. Or a steep but short hike or some nice 4-5 mile morning/evening runs (not...More

The drive to access the Rob Roy Glacer hike is about an hour's drive from Wanaka. The road is unpaved after the Treble Cone turn off. You won't be able to fit in the drive to the track, the hike, the return drive to Wanaka and the drive to Te Anau all in one day. In other words, way too much planned for Day 2. Your walks listed on Day 3 aren't in the vicinity of Te Anau, they're near Wanaka...I'll get back with some walks suggestions near Te Anau

Some thoughts: - You need 3 nights in Te Anau to do both Milford Sound and a walk to the Luxmore hut. Both are full day trips as is the drive from Mt Cook. You could lose one of the activities to keep your plan on schedule. Wanaka to Hokitika is too far for one day's drive. From Wanaka to the glacier towns is a 6 hour drive for most visitors, assuming you actually want to stop and see the attractions on the way. You could stay at Franz Josef Glacier and drive to Christchurch the day after,...More

Wanaka long weekend - must do's (8 Replies)
Hi there I'm heading to Wanaka Fri-Mon in August and want to do some special activities as it's for our 5 year anniversary. Can anyone recommend any must-do activities? Thinking of getting Cardrona ski passes (not sure if we'll do one or two days). The stargazing tour looks good but not sure if it's worth it for $99pp. Anyone done this? Any really nice places to eat? Would also like to go to the Paradiso cinema one of the nights. Apart from that, are there any other experiences that are...More

I don't know about August travel, but the Rob Roy Valley Glacier Hike was pretty special (free, but check with locals if the road is passable). We also enjoyed the Mou Waho Island Eco-tour (paid). Puzzlelworld or Mt Iron?
