Laurie and Joel were extremely welcoming and we had a glorious afternoon paddling down the Clutha River. The safety briefing is exact, as you would expect a professional company to be. But it was informed in such a way as to be amusingly memorable to recall if and when you may tip over!
You do need to put in some muscle at times, but there is plenty of relaxation time of bobbing about too.
The hot drink break is welcoming and again the standard of drink was great, the choice good and the metal cups far better than plastic/paper ones. The brownies were absolutely stunning...gooey, chewy, crunchy on the edge, with a ripple of something fruity.
We had a perfect afternoon, always felt safe, had a good laugh and saw beautiful scenery.
You are supplied with a wet suit, very clean, water shoes very clean, life jacket clean, yellow plastic top that did smell disgusting, but that's likely the nature of a plastic top. Hard hat very clean.
Thank you Joel and Laurie. Perfect hosts.

This is a new service offered by paddle wanaka...a water taxi service to mou waho island, half way up lake wanaka. Chris was a most informative guide, who enriched our experience with his knowledge of pre-european history and local points of interest. We disembarked and walked uphill to Arethusa Pool...a beautiful serene pool well worth the walk. Just 10 mins further walk got us to the lookout which gives the most amazing views in all directions. Along the way we encountered very friendly wekas, and lots of Weta Hotels. This was not on our itinerary, but ended up being one of our favourite activities this week!

Fantastic trip, spectacular scenery, informative guide and delicious morning tea at the amazing spot of Bull Island topped off an incredible kayak experience on Lake Wanaka. We meet at Beacon Point and were taken out to Stevensons island by boat, a guided trip on the island before we got into the kayaks for the big adventure back. Tyler was full of Maori legends, local knowledge, and once we got to Bull Island became the guide extraordinaire as he made fresh coffee to order, and The Best Brownies in town. A combination of first trip out since lockdown 4 finished, fresh air, great friends and an amazing company to paddle with. Thanks Paddle Wanaka, you created memories that will last. We will be back.

I picked Paddle Wanaka because it had the best location on the shoreline of Lake Wanaka. Soo glad I did. I purchased a 3 hour kayak hire and took a very leisurely paddle out to Ruby Island at 9am in the crystal clear waters, I explored and enjoyed the view on the island with some snacks! The team were so helpful and friendly. I came back the next day so my friend could SUP and they were attentive to safety- closing off rentals when the weather picked up, even though it didn’t look that windy to a novice, as well as rescuing the stranded SUPers because it really was that windy! Thanks again Austin!

We had the 4 hr Mission kayak experience booked. We received a call the day before saying the weather was questionable due to high wind predictions but they suggested we come by to see if the weather had changed. Safety first! We lucked out and it was a beautiful day so we were able to go. We were taken out in a boat to the launch spot and they covered all the safety requirements and gave us a map of where to paddle and showed us landmarks along the way. We are experienced paddlers and I wouldn’t recommend this to first time kayakers as there is a lot of open water to cross and it’s a long paddle back but the lake is beautiful and we really enjoyed our day. There is even a small island you can stop at for a swim. Would highly recommend.

We were lucky enough to just scrape through and be able to kayak on Lake Wanaka when the wind was picking up.

What a privilege. A real highlight of our weekend in the region!

Excellent hospitality, service and banter from Tyler and Austin too.

I highly recommend this experience!

The crew were excellent, giving us some tips that made our 1 hour paddle extra special. They put in extra effort to make it enjoyable and keep us safe. At one point some jet skiers were circling us too close and one of the staff just had a respectful word with them on our behalf, we didn't ask them to, they just did it, no fuss. Thoughtful and kind.

As experienced kayakers we wanted to be on our own. Tyler dropped us off at a boat launch with two single kayaks for a 4 hour trip. On the van trip he gave us a lot of NZ history and was very knowledgeable about the area. After helping us by adjusting foot pegs & life vests, plus making sure we knew the particulars of their boats we were off Paddling to a deserted beach, enjoying the breathtaking views. We brought our own picnic. Instructed to bring a phone and taking down our number, we were impressed by Paddle Wanaka’s attention to our safety. We called in, 1 1/2 hours from the end of our trip, so they could determine where we were and give further instructions if necessary.

Many many thanks to everybody at Paddle Wanaka and especially to our guide Austin for our two day trip to Mou Waho. We had a brilliant time, stops for coffe, cake and swims along the way, getting to the island which we were lucky to have to ourselves (and the Weka), and swims in the lake on Mou Waho followed by a lovely dinner. The next day the winds turned but Austin and Craig sorted a perfect alternative route. Austin was the perfect guide, lots of local knowledge with a very easy going manner and a great cook and host. With added duck rescue at the end :-).

Excellent review!! Thanks joining us on our Mac Daddy adventure, it's quite special to wake up on an island in the middle of the lake with another day of kayaking ahead. Thanks heaps for your feedback regarding our guide Austy, he's a great guy! The word on the lake is that the duck has made a good recovery. Thanks for chosing to kayak with us & all the best for the rest of your travels.

2 of us in double kayak were dropped up Lake Wanaka and given a suggested adventurous paddle back to Lakeside shop.
All instructions were clear and helpful, we had a great couple of hours exploring. All equipment was in good workin order.
We lucked out with good weather for our day, its worth reviewing weather before making your plans.
