Epic trip, scenery stunning. Cycle journeys did an excellent job from bike hire , shuttles, accommodation. We would use them again. Seven of us and no bike issues. We all voted Holy Oaks in Duntroon as best accommodation and food. The dinner they left for us was outstanding, lots of it and lovely breakfast selection. Home made cookies were a treat and accommodation fantastic, beds comfy, great pure cotton linen! Awesome trip from start to finish. Thank you.

The customer service I received from the cycle journeys team was beyond expectations. From first contact (via email), to the in person experiences at their twizel depot - all of the people I encountered were friendly, caring, funny and just all round top people. They provided me with everything I needed and their A20 app was really handy and easy to use. I will be back to book again with cycle journeys!!

This trip has variety in both the trails you ride on and the views you see each day. We started at Tekapo to make a change from Mt Cook, this would have been more enjoyable had it not been for a howling Norwester wind. People riding from Mt Cook were less affected on this day, so I'd reccommend a Mt Cook start. Spend a couple of days up there to enjoy the great walks and scenery on offer before you start your ride.
Do try out the River T winery at Kurow as the platters and wine were just fantastic.
We felt thoroughly looked after by the Cycle Journeys team, their efficiency, friendliness and organisation is fantastic. Staying at Oamaru after your ride is also something we enjoyed, the gardens are beautiful, the old preccinct is very intetesting and our Brydone Hotel was renovated but still retaining the old worlde charm and character.

Our group of mainly over 70s have been home a week now. The experience was amazing, challenging and fun. We are so proud of ourselves. Cycle Journeys were very good to deal, their communication was great and nothing was too much trouble. The bikes were perfect for our needs, baggage transfers, accomodation providers, and everyone we were in contact with were excellent.
My training tip would be to get some practise riding rough tracks such as river beds. We coped with the gradients but the track surface was a bit scary and gnarly around Ohau and Benmore.

What a fantastic holiday... If you are thinking of doing this ride, then do it, and do it with Cycle Journeys. Everything they arranged was spot on, from the bikes to the accommodation to the meals to the friendly welcome in Twizel and Oamaru. We were on e-bikes since we don't ride at home and they were great. Lighter than other e-bikes we have used on other rides and the battery lasted forever. We didn't get below 3 bars (out of 5) on any of the day's rides, even on the 80+kms days. We are looking at doing other rides and if Cycle Journeys are an option we will use them...

This is, in my opinion, the best off-road cycle route in New Zealand and Cycle Journeys were an excellent cycle tour operator for our trip.
We cycled the A2O from Tekapo to Oamaru in 6 days, opting to stay in self catering accommodation where possible (3 nights) and using dinner, B&B options the other 3 nights. Cycle Journeys did all the organising for us and their service was superb - from the admin and planning in Christchurch, the bike prep and welcome in Twizel, and the bike drop in Oamaru and return shuttle bus. The staff were welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable, and supportive throughout. They also provided a comfortable women's saddle for my wife and spd pedals for my bike. We elected to get our bags moved on from our overnight accommodation and that worked seamlessly and meant we could enjoy the cycling and views with just a small rack-trunk for luggage. We used Merida hard-tail bikes (not e-bikes) provided and they were excellent, with a good range of gears for the hills and responsive hydraulic brakes. They had been well serviced for the trip.
I cannot recommend the A2O cycle trip highly enough. It has an amazing diversity of landscapes and cultural interest, and is a great challenge. Please don't hesitate to do it - just book yourself onto it and relish the experience! The memory will linger on well after your trip!

What a fabulous route. Shame about some of the service from Cycle Journeys. I'd look for a different operator.

Some of us were worried about range on our e-bikes so asked for an additional battery. Bruce, who was setting us up, said we can't have an additional battery and repeatedly said that no customers have ever run out of battery. The next day all eight of us ran out of battery despite riding on eco. If we'd had the extra battery we asked for, this day would have been fun instead of semi-hypothermic. I ran out of battery most days.

We went thru Cycle Journeys briefing on the importance of health and safety, hence why our bags could weigh only 15kg. Then a couple of us asked to swap brakes to the other side. Bruce said we weren't able to do this. We finally managed to negotiate the swap and avoid this important safety risk, but I've never rented bikes and had the provider refuse to set them up for us.

If you can, talk to people who have done the trip to improve the accommodation and route recommendations from Cycle Journeys to better suit your objectives. We especially enjoyed Mint Folk and Poppies in Twizel, Barn at Killin, & Kurow.

We chose Cycle Journeys for our Alps to Ocean holiday because we’d previously had a good experience with them on the West Coast Wilderness Trail. This time was just as good: clear information, good accommodation, bags always at our accommodation when we arrived. Staff were friendly and helpful and knew their stuff. The Alps to Ocean as the longest of New Zealand cycle trails is a challenging ride for a recreational cyclist, but with good organisation behind us, all we had to do was focus on the cycling.

Great tour company. Very efficient and helpful both before and during our trip. Bags were always there for us. Bikes were very good with no problems. All accommodation they arranged was absolutely perfect. I highly recommend them
