giant salt lake
Aug 2021
Amazing to see still signs of the former salt mining at the site. The rail line goes past so use the big concrete drain pipe to get under to be able to walk on the lake. There were caravaners free camping in the carpark and they would have had spectacular views at sunrise and sunset.

Salt lake experience.

We walked down to the salt lake, it’s well worth the stop. About 42 klms north of Pimba. Plenty of room for large rugs to stop.

Stunning views
May 2021
Absolutely stunning views across the lake. The sunset and sunrise are picture perfect and no need for any filters on your lens. The light and colours are great. Get in early though if you are thinking of staying the night. Its very popular and quite busy later in the day. Absolutely beautiful spot and well worth a stopover on the way through.

perfect photo spot

It's vast & your camera will struggle to get the white white (unless you can tweak it's settings). Dont walk on it if there has been rain recently - you will sink fast.

This is a must stop visit to see the beautiful salt crystals glistening. You can walk right down to the Lake and experience nothing like it. You can see sticks crystallised in salt and it is mesmerising. I picked up a small crystal and yes, definitely salt! Fantastic stop and highly recommend.

Amazing Location
Sep 2020 • Family
On the way to Coober Pedy we stopped at Lake Hart Slat Lake Rest Area. Amazing view and only a short 7min walk down to lake. You cross under train tracks through a cement pipe and we’re lucky enough to time it when a train was passing over head. The salt lake itself is just amazing and fun for adults and kids. We tried a little which was extremely salty YUM

A must stop location

A great place to stop for the night
Aug 2020
There is a good layout and the lake is very interesting, with pieces of wood jutting out of the salt as if there was a jetty there, once. No toilets, so bring your own or come prepared with shovel and paper. Some information about the traditional owners and the early explorers is there, but the former is limited. I still don't know why the wooden posts are there. Far enough from the road to be a good option overnight. And it's free.
