The bio bay tour with Eco Adventures was an awesome activity! Me, my husband and 8 yr old daughter were able to go in one kayak. The guides were very knowledgeable and helpful. They were funny and also shared a lot of information and history. The moon was fairly bright on the night we went, but they bring tarps that groups of kayakers can hold to see the bioluminescence better. And then on the trip back through the canal, there are really dark areas, and we got to see more bioluminescence nearly the whole way back as we kayaked. I'm glad we chose the earlier trip because you could still see where you were going on the way out to the lagoon. The way back was hard to see where you were going, but it was easy to see the glowing microorganisms! What a unique experience!

Fun team. The lead tour guide made sure to explain what would happen, when and how. He made sure to give instructions in English and Spanish every time. The tour started on time and they did a good job of getting us back on time. The vests were a bit run down, but the 2-person kayaks and paddles were in great shape. There were several couples who didn’t have experience kayaking and they struggled a bit. Two in particular kept either getting stuck or turned around. The guides did help them several times. We were glad that we did the earlier tour because at least you could see where you were going. The return trip was much harder for everyone because it was dark and you go against the current. If you’re a very experienced kayaker, try to be in the front of the pack, or you’ll get bumped by those who are less experienced repeatedly. We took it in stride and joked with them about it, but I can see someone getting a bit frustrated. The bio bay is gorgeous, even if it was just a kayaking tour. There’s a lighthouse and you can see El Yunque rainforest in the background. We had a moonless night, so you could see the bioluminescence well (with a lot of movement) and the starts (and a couple of planets) were fun to identify. We brought our phones in a waterproof case but didn’t take photos because we were moving the whole time. Head’s up that the crew was very trans friendly from the get-go. Particularly appreciated that. At the end, they asked everyone to go inside their small office. We declined because we had left our masks in the car, but I believe they had water bottles. They also have a tip jar. We made sure we tipped them because they made the trip fun.

In short, it was a great experience: the team that registers you, prepares you and guides you out onto the lagoon is phenomenal from start to finish. It must be exhausting to do what they do every day in the heat and to deal with so many people at once but they take the time to speak to everyone on the tour and make everyone feel like it's just a family outing (minus the arguing that happens during family trips ). I highly recommend their tours to see the bioluminescent bay. Believe the tour guides when they say you won't be able to film the waters - because you won't be able to. It's a great way to enjoy the island, enjoy its inhabitants and friendly people. Also, they're fluent in English and Spanish for those that do not understand Spanish. Les recomiendo a Eco Adventures!

We did the early evening kayak in late June to see the bioluminescence. All of the guides from Eco Adventures were very nice and they worked hard to make sure everyone had a good time. Check in was smooth and they started and ended on time. Now, I have to mention something that applies to kayaking in Fajardo, regardless of which company you use. The bay reeks! It smells terrible because of the seaweed washing up. I would recommend not using your favorite bathing suit or towels for the trip. It gets into your clothes. Seriously. I looked it up after the trip and apparently it's been a problem for a few years now, particularly in the summer time.
