One of the few places in the world that the bioluminescent dinoflagellates microorganisms which when disturbed gives off a luminous glow at night. Reminded me lots of an Avatar-like experience. Note the water is brackish and as a warning some other reviewers mentioned jellyfish in the water. For those wary of social distancing/COVID, there were full boatloads of people out to this unique lagoon. Boats were also older and reeked of fuel smell. The experience itself is five starts no doubt and a bucket list item to do, but bare in mind the pre-show as well as grounds/facility are nothing exciting themselves (next to no production values), so temper your expectations accordingly. If you found this review to be helpful, please indicate with a "thanks" so I know where to focus my efforts in the future.

We took a private shuttle to the location and they had a bar area you could get drinks. We boarded a boat with about 20-30 people (the boat was full) and Captain proceed to tell us if we could not swim then don't get in the water. You are not to touch the bottom of the lagoon or it would disrupt the glow effect. You would stay on board and watch. Several people were confused and wanted to leave because they were under the impression they could walk on the bottom since they could not swim well and may touch the bottom. The Captain kinda convinced them to stay. The boat kicked up water at the motor area and you could see the glow which was cool. I am not a great swimmer but asked for a life vest and I was fine. Stayed afloat and did not touch the bottom. We stayed in the water for about 15 minutes or so. I didn't realize they were taking pictures so did not get a picture while I was in the water but after I got our I did see a guy asking people to look his way to take pictures. You really wont get the effect on your camera phone. The purchasing of pictures was a little crazy. You can get one picture with you in it for $25. We had a crowd of 9 so we wanted several pictures so he finally let us get all of them( about 8 pictures for $100). CRAZY I KNOW.

I was drawn to this experience obviously for the glowy water. I was surprised by something else actually -- the water does glow (albeit not quite as boldly as I expected based on some of the tour pics), but what is quite strange as they explain on the tour is that because the water in the lagoon is fed by three different rivers, the runoff creates a thick muddy layer on the bottom of the lagoon that is almost like a "gel." That really is the best way to describe it -- it's like a knee deep, thick, gel-like material that feels very soft. The lagoon itself is actually fairly shallow (like 4 feet deep), so you really do feel that gel. They say it "makes you look younger" and encourage swimming; I was curious so I did get out and try it, and it feels very odd. Nevertheless, it was overall a cool experience. If you have the chance to check it out, I would recommend it!

the only excursion all 20 of us did. 2 of us stayed on the boat but the rest swam in water and had the blue luminesense around them, very difficult to photograph. could have done without loud mouthed and crude captain. fairly unique although our son did experience a night trip in florida seeing similar luminous but he said this was better, more fun, water warmer.

The trip was HORRIBLE, and they let anyone on their boats. I had a group of 10 along with myself and tour operator. We boarded the boat and noticed there were other people on the boat and instead of leaving they boarded more people and several of them drunk already. We took off and the captain was talking, and these gentlemen kept talking over him. Then they started lighting up Marijuana and smoking. Several people in our group asked them to stop. It was a small vessel, and the smoke was bothering my clients and he was near the fuel tank. He and his friends started cursing and threatening my clients. The captain did absolutely nothing. He could have said anything to control the situation or even turn the boat around to make them disembark. He did nothing. After escalating to a death threat, in fear we asked the captain to please turn this boat around. He finally did. Then these gentlemen stood at the exit of the boat threatening to kill my female clients and speaking Patois. My clients feared for their lives, so they stayed on the boat. The captain just left us there. I wasn't scared and went inside to tell the owner to call the police or get security immediately because my client’s lives were in danger. She called the police, and I went back to my clients. The unruly, drunken, high men were now in the parking lot fighting each other. My clients ran for the bus. I asked the owner for a partial refund because my clients came to get in the Luminous Lagoon and because they failed as a responsible business owner to screen their drunken unruly clients they could not enjoy the experience. No refund was given, and I had to personally refund all my clients out of my pocket. I will never use this company again and if you care for your safety you should not either.
