Currently, it is under restoration but there is a walking path on the neighboring field. It is a little complicated to reach the site. Follow the (historic) signs on the road. Do not be surprised to see a metal door at he end of the road. Park the car and walk around ,on the right hand side.

The bridge is located on Silk Road. It is very close to Sakarya cross road of D-100 motorway and also highway. The bridge is completed A.D. 550-562 and latest period of East Roman Empire called in Bitinia area. It takes its name from Emperor Justinianos (527-565). The area was always in danger of flood because of Sakarya river always changed riverbed since 1960s. The old man in Sakarya city still remember the area is always under flood and people can not travel easily in the past. Probably Emperor Justinianos built the bridge both for trade and military purpose because the bridge is on the way of Istanbul from Aegean area and Anatolia.

Some experts support the idea of the bridge built for Antique Channel project. This channel would by-pass Bosphorus because it would satarted from Sakarya river through Sapanca lake and Kocaeli bay. By means of this channel there would not be any need for Bosphorus to reach at Marmara sea from Aegean sea.

Today the bridge is not on Sakarya riverbed because after rehabilitates on Sakarya riverbed, the river is 3 km far away from the bridge now.

There is nothing attract toattention in the area unless you are a sick of history, architect and bridges. However there are a lake, river and a seaside (Blacksea) in green Sakarya city and when you visit the city it is better you spare some time to visit the bridge.

It is an ordinary 15 hundred year old bridge if you don't care the historical importance. Please read the main purpose of building it before visiting. I recommend;
1-Share half an hour if you are visiting Sakarya or Sapanca,
2-Find the location on GPS first, since the the Turkish name BESKOPRU is the name of the region too.
3- Do take your camera with you.

Built in the 6th century to enable the Roman army to get at troublesome tribes in the east of the empire, this splendid 400metre long bridge has not yet attracted the restoration attention it clearly deserves. Indeed one span has been seriously altered to allow a railway line to pass underneath. The once mighty river is now reduced to little more than a stream and it is possible to get excellent views of the structure from ground level as well as from the bridge itself. If you don't have a car, I suggest taking a taxi, which will take you through an enclave of Syrian refugees en route. I paid 50TL for a return trip from Adapazari with 15mins waiting time at the bridge.

Beşköprü known by the locals is also called as Justinianos Bridge or Sakarya Bridge.This Bridge is about 430 meters long and constructed over the Sakarya River.This Bridge had been constructed 4 times since 561 and a few times it is renovated and with the latest renovation it has been named as Beş Köprü (5 Bridge).By the years and weather conditions
The Bridge and its extensions (walls) had been partly damaged.For this reason,while planning yr visit to this historical place,do not expect to see more about it.

The old roman bridge over Sakarya river was constructed 15 centuries ago by the Roman emperor, Justinianus and is currently under renovation and shortly will be in use again which is 365mtrs long and has a width of 9.85mtrs.This bridge was originally constructed to connect the 2 sides of Sakarya River, but as the river bed was diverted some 40 years ago, it now serves over a small stream.
The total cost of renovation will be around 29 million TL which is about 5.5 million USDs.
