The ferry ride to Caprera is lovely, and the isola is beautiful, but the drive up to the memorial (through the forests) alone is worth the trip. Read a little about Garibaldi before you go, if your h.s. history is rusty.

We enjoyed this visit to this memorial to Garibaldi. I didn't know much about him or the history. Another bonus was the view from the site.

very good installation, located in a restored 1st WW fort offering a breathtaking view on the whole archipelago. Good for a one hour visit while roaming through Caprera island

Wonderful experience visiting the enchanting island of Caprera and then visiting this historic place. Even though we do not speak Italian, the visit was well worth it. The 3 multimedia (air-conditioned) rooms pay homage to Guiseppe Garibaldi, are well done and visually interactive. It was...More

Such an up-to-date way to depict the life and times of this important person in Italian history. Still on on-going project, explanation boards in English to be added. Really enjoyed our visit.

One of the most obvious reasons for travelling to Maddalena Islands is to visit Garibaldi's retreat . We happened to visit on the first Sunday of the month which unbeknown to us is always a free entry day. Unfortunately this meant almost an hour's wait...More

It would be daft to come all the way to Caprera and not visit the house of Garibaldi. Having said that, you'll get more out of the guided tour if you speak Italian as the guide gives only the briefest of versions in English. You...More

Just worth visiting the modest home of such a famous Italian soldier and politician. Easy to get to as the bus from Maddalena takes you direct.

being a fan of Italian history, this is a place I wanted to visit, as this is the house where Garibaldi lived for a large part of his life and where he is buried. The guide was great, sharing a lot of information that can't...More
