we visited cala di roto...also called spiaggia rosa...twince, both times during a full day trip thru the archipelago di maddalena. the beach is perhaps the most frequentated beach in the whole archpiel, but it is sricktly forbidden to enter the beach, because in the past to many people destroyed something or stole this endemic pink sand from the beach. it is only allowed to pass thruh with the boat in low gear to take some nice photos.
cala di roto, which is located at the island budelli is not far away from the high frequentated spiaggia di cavalieri and a small path thru the lush maccia leads to cala di roto. a fence near the pink beach is located and ranger watch out regulary.
the pink colour of cala di roto varies from time to time...the intensivity of the colour depends of the population of the bacteries, which paint the sand pink.
we can recomment cala di roto very much. the beach is the unreached jewel of this archipel and it is fine, that it is not allowed to enter the beach.
for us two stop over visits were absolutely okay. an enchanted place of silience.

Since many years you can't touch the beach because it is now protected. Wonderful but accessible only from the bridge.

This is a beautiful beach. We visited in a chartered boat on a day when the tour boats were not running so it was deserted.
The photos do not accurately capture the pink cast to the sand.
Part of the beach is roped off to protect the sand.

You will see it if your tour includes a visit to the Budelli island in the Archipelago tour before going to the Spiaggia di Cavallieri.
It’s been protected for years but you can see from the boat the perfect “pale rose” color sand & turquoise water! Magnificent.
