First off: this can (and probably will) get very messy. And I'm talking about mud until halfway up to your knees. Best gear is rubber boots hands down. The Lost World Tour was one of the best experiences I ever had in Panama. After actually growing frustrated a little bit by the mass tourism phenomenon that is backpacking and by everyone doing the same things and going to the same places I was already intrigued by the Lost&Found Hostel. The Lost World Tour then brought this to another level: In a small group of 5 plus our guide Nico, we took a car for about an hour and then started hiking up the hill. Past beautiful and exotic plants and wildlife such as cocoa and coffee trees, hydrophobic plants and wandering mangroves. With only ourselves, some locals every once in a while and some animals around us we were finally in a peaceful place that not everyone is going to. The hike took about 6-7 hours with a lunch break in the local village (it's weird being served spaghetti in an indigenous Panamanian mountain village, however they were very brrrr bala (which I hope is how you write very tasty in the native language)). The destination of the trip is the spring of a river, being fed by two waterfalls from two sides. Taking a swim, jumping from small waterfalls and refreshing in the cold water was a blessing at the time and a beautiful memory for ever after. It was absolutely beautiful, serene and exciting to be led through the dense jungle across rocks, stone and water (and lots of mud) by Nico, a very knowledgeable guy who has been living in Panama for 8 years already. I can highly recommend this tour, it is a definite must if one spends any time in western Panama. Be sure to go to Lost&Found Hostel as well, from there you can sign up to the tour or even do some Spanish classes with Nico that are also great fun (and very useful!) Useful equipment: rubber boots (make sure they have proper grip!), any kind of waterproof gear (or just bring stuff that can get wet), plastic bags (to protect stuff like cameras, etc from the rain), swimsuit, rain poncho.

The Lost World Tour is like no other! It was an incredible, rustic adventure... The whole experience felt so authentic to Panamanian culture, landscape, and beauty. It challenges your limits but rewards you with the most majestic swim in pure nature, underneath a breathtaking waterfall in the middle of the jungle. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and made the journey that much better! I would do it again in a heartbeat! The experience itself is worth 10 times the price of the tour. Highly recommended!!

Easily the best kept secret in all of Panama. Pictures are worth a thousand words, so i attached a few, but in reality they do not even do this tour justice whatsoever. If you make time for a 1 day excursion in your entire Panama itinerary, this one should be your priority. TRUST. ME. This tour has it all.. it's affordable, it has secret waterfalls and hidden canyons, indigenous village experience, and it is TRUE adventure for adrenalin junkies and photography heaven. - It's completely off the beaten path, you will be the only tourists at each location, the group is kept small and intimate (we were only three tourists and the guide) After exploring Panama for 7 months, i found this to be one of the few tours available that exposes the raw beauty of the country -The entire way, there is no trail necessarily.. the guide hacks through the wilderness with his machete, you are hiking through the dense jungle for a majority of the time, so you'll be exposed to various wildlife and lush scenery -The culture exchange experience in the indigenous Ngabe village situated atop of the hill is unforgettable, the tribe is so welcoming, they cook a delicious lunch for you, and a highlight will be the children's curiosity with visitors, cameras, and their obsession with having their photo taken. The village overlooks the Caribbean Sea- the view literally makes you feel on the top of the world. -Once you earn your way to the waterfalls (the terrain is rugged, steep, and narrow..the hike is treacherous and you have to be physically fit, it was a 8-10 hour hike) you will be rewarded with the most incredible views that will leave you speechless. It was visual poetry.. a scene right out of national geographic and the best part of it was... we were the only ones there! **and I did this tour in February, so it's considered high season in Panama - Sometimes the company is just as important as the itinerary. My guide, Nico, is a huge reason why i had such a positive experience. He was understanding and patient when my friend was not able to keep up with the rest of us and he was an extremely informative and helpful guide, he has amassed a wealth of in-depth knowledge of the surrounding area so don't worry about investing in a guide book. Also, he really just makes you feel extremely at ease when you're faced with sketchy situations (this tour was full of it.. but that's what i loved most about it) and the entire time you'll feel as if you're experiencing this amazing adventure secluded deep in the heart of the jungle with a friend and not a guide. TIPS: -Nico speaks fluent english and spanish -I highly recommend contacting the hostel in advance prior to your arrival to make sure that Nico is available to take you on this tour during your dates. He is also able to provide transportation for an additional fee (he picked us up from boquete, we did the tour & stayed only that 1 night in the hostel, and he then dropped us off in bocas). He is also able to provide custom tours. I was so impressed, i contacted him the very next month so he could be our tour guide in a custom 1 day tour for my friend and I in other parts of Chiriqui. Anyways, on the 'EPIC' scale of 1-10 this was easily a 20 ...I did this tour in 2013 and the second i land back in Panama i'm headed right back to the Lost and Found hostel just so i can do this tour all over again.
