This was my third birding trip to Panama and I was targeting regional endemics. Ito knows them all, knows their calls and had reliable sites for every one. As a regional birdguide you could do no better. He is easy going, speaks perfect English and I had a brilliant week with him. I shall return.

An excellent bird guide with great knowledge of the species of Panama, with special reference to the Chiriquí highlands. With a geniune passion for nature and a great sense of humour, Ito is well worth contacting before planning your trip to Panama.

If you would like to go birdwatching in highland of Chiriqui, you should go with Ito. He is excellent guide, he knows birds well and he knows where to go! I had 2 beautiful days with him in Cerro Punta and Caribbean slope (La Fortuna). Ito is the best! :-)

I went with my wife on a birding trip to Cerro Punta (Guadalupe) in Chiriquí highlands. Ito (Genover) is an excellent birding guide for Chiriquí, very experienced and keen in identification. He's also easy-going and kind. He took us to several birding areas around Cerro Punta, including Volcan Baru National Park and showed us a good number of species, including more than 10 lifers! He has his own vehicle and can thus provide both guiding and transportation services. He picked up and took us to David airport. Also, he and his wife own a small coffee shop in Guadalupe, called Itos's Cafetería where they provide coffee, drinks and meals for a sensible price and can even prepare a picnic breakfast for an early birding start. Ito's company is called "Itotourspanama"

We did three trips with Ito. He is a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable with an amazing ability to spot birds and recognize their calls. He brings the laser pointer and spotting scope and is great at getting you on the bird. He knows where specific species can be found. If you're agreeable, he will play recordings to bring birds into view. His prices are very reasonable for a guide of his expertise.

First, we birded Volcan, Cerro Punta, Guadalupe and Los Nubes which yielded many regional endemics and 4 sightings of Resplendent Quetzal. Another day we visited "Birding Paradise" in Paraiso (highly recommend to visit there) where we saw fiery-billed aracaris, 10 species of hummingbirds, 2 species of manakins and a number of regional endemics. Our third day we birded around Boquete which also yielded looks at some uncommon birds and regional endemics. The birds in the Chiriqui highlands vary by elevation, habitat, and which side of Volcan Baru you're on.

Ito offers a wide variety of trips for birding, hiking, overnights and to Coiba Island. I'm already thinking about my next visit to Panama and look forward to more time in the field with Ito.

Ito is a fantastic guide for birding in the area, easily the best local birder and the best option for a guide in Chiriqui. Over the course of a day we were able to see Costa Rican pygmy-owl, maroon-chested ground-dove (great looks at this tough species), wrenthrush, silvery-fronted tapaculo, and other. Hiring Ito is without fail the best way for a visiting bird to get the ground-dove, an exceptionally difficult species here or anywhere. Overall a great day of birding.

I am a serious bird photographer that has traveled all over the world photographing Beautiful, rare and endemic birds. I always work with the best local bird guide that I can find. Ito is world class. Cerro Punta (Guadalupe) in the Chiriqui highlands is maybe the best location in Panama for birds. This has been my fifth birding trip to Panama and definitely one of the best.

Our morning spent with Ito was one of the highlights of our 18 days in Panama, and we are not that much into birds!! We were very lucky to get to go birding with him as he is very much in demand, and for a good reason: he's a very friendly easy-going person who knows birds and finds them for you!! Even if you don't think you'd like this you will if you want to see birds.

Our trip was supposed to be for three hours at $40 per person. We were out over 4 hours and saw 26 different species! WOW!! He even took pictures with my phone through his spotting scope.
At the end he wanted to take us to one more place just a block beyond our hotel in town to see another bird that he knew lives in the area. Within a couple of minutes we saw the female and using a recorded call on his phone that he broadcast with a speaker he had called in the male too!! He's a pro!
Book ahead if you can as he's in demand. Money well-spent for a memorable morning. Thank you Ito!!
