About
Located 40 kilometers away from the city of Matagalpa in the community of La Empresa is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in all of Nicaragua. Cascada de la Luna is a 40 meter waterfall that overlooks the lush nicaraguan forest. Our cooperative operates ziplining across the waterfall as well as hiking tours and kayaking.

Very beautiful waterfall. I went with a Nicaraguan and he had a slightly difficult time finding the road to this waterfall from the highway. There were no other tourists at Cascada de la Luna the day of our visit. Actually, we only saw about 5 people in the area and limited staff. I would have been concerned if I was not with a Nicaraguan. We rented kayaks but there was a very limited area for kayaking. No zipline available during our visit. Could be due to offseason visit.

Easy drive from Matagalpa along a well maintained highway. Off street, secure parking. Easy walk down to the beautiful waterfall. Well worth the drive and walk.

La Cascada de la Luna is an oasis, and undiscovered (for now) gem in Matagalpa. It is owned and operated 100% by locals, and their passion for their home and the company shows in everything they do. We had the opportunity to zipline across a GORGEOUS waterfall, as well as take a wonderful hiking tour that ended in an incredible swimming hole tucked away in the forest. Their professionalism was matched only by their thoughtfulness - they ended our tour by providing us with a host of freshly picked fruit, free of charge!

If you find yourself in Matagalpa, visiting La Cascada de la Luna is a must!!

Short walk from the main road to the top of the waterfall, there's a dam there where people is washing clothes so the water is not clean. I went there during the dry season and it didn't look like these photos, more like a one line of water.

We are sorry you did not enjoy your experience at Cascada de la Luna. In the future we will include photos showing the flow of the waterfall each month so guests can see how it looks when they arrive. Since this location is part of the community we cannot prevent locals from washing their clothes. However, we plan to use some of the profits this project generates to create a space for locals to wash their clothes. We hope you understand.

Just north of matagalpa there lies this remarkable geological feature of a waterfall. The tour company established to provide enjoyment and economic sustainability to the region expertly constructed a zip line that takes down the face of the incredible waterfall. Hiking and trails and swim holes abound. Not to missed for the adventurous and spirited should. Very affordable. Great service. Highly recommended.

Such a nice and untouristic place to relax or swim right below the waterfall. You can use the slide to get down, but you can also just walk down and relax and enjoy the nice view, which we did. Really lovely place, I highly recommend it!

From the Coltran Norte in Matagalpa, this hidden oasis is only an hour and a half away (just tell the bus driver to let you off at La Empresa)! The zip line is aligned perfectly to the amazing waterfall! It is a great, fun way to spend an afternoon. The staff is very kind, helpful and attentive. The trip is definitely worth it if you are in the area!

My wife and I truly enjoyed this experience! It costs 150 córdobas per person (about $6) with the funds going to support the local town. We tipped both of our guides another 25 córdobas each. In case you're wondering, the term they use for "zip-line" in Nicaragua is "canopy" (which is the same in neighboring Costa Rica). We would be hesitant about bringing young children (8 and below) as the trek back includes crossing the river by walking on top of a submerged retaining wall. Depending on the water level, it could be a little dicey for little ones as there is no rope to hold on to. Directions to get here are included in the 2016 Lonely Planet - Nicaragua book on page 200.

Casacada La Luna is a gorgeous waterfall tucked away in the rolling hills of Matagalpa just outside of La Dalia. Walter showed us around and took us on a hike to a secluded spot on the river, perfect for jumping off of rocks and spending the day swimming. The Cascada staff bring professionalism and fun to a local watering hole, and it was lovely knowing that my money went to six local cooperative members.

Truly top notch!

Our experience at La Cascada was absolutely amazing. We had the opportunity to zip line and take a beautiful hike to a waterfall where we swam and had an amazing view.La Cascada is owned by locals who make the experience fun, intellectual, and exciting. An amazing experience for a person visiting Nicaragua or living here.
