This is such a peaceful village....nothing but the sound of the ocean and nearly empty beaches....lots of good local restaurants serving fresh fish and cold beer plus an amazing pizzeria!

Nice beach popular with the locals
Oct 2019
La Boquita is a nice local beach that is very popular with locals. I love it because you don't usually see a lot of tourists there and get a more "authentic" experience. A few of the restaurants have nice shady areas and tiki huts with hammocks on the beach where you can escape from the hot sun for a while.

A few people mentioned that you will sometimes find lots of people in the parking areas and near the restaurants trying to get you to buy things or come to their restaurant. Do not be alarmed by this - you are in a very poor country that has been suffering from a lack of tourism recently but the people are generally very friendly and are just trying to make a living. If you aren't interested in what they are offering, just smile and say "No, gracias" and they will leave you alone. This is common practice all over Nicaragua.

One thing I will mention that always bothers me - many of the restaurants and vendors along the beaches including La Boquita steal sea turtle eggs from their nests on the beach and sell them. DO NOT BUY THEM. IT IS A VIOLATION OF NICARAGUAN LAW AND INTERNATIONAL LAW. Sea turtles are endangered animals and Nicaragua is full of delicious food that you can eat without pushing a species closer to extinction. I was given one of these eggs once without realizing what it was - they taste horrible anyway so stick to the non-endangered stuff.

Day trip
Feb 2019 • Couples
La Boquita is a very nice beach. We went on an excepted day trip so we did not pack bathing suits. Had a lovely walk along the beach, enjoyed watching the locals playing, building sand castles, etc. Had a few drinks and basicly enjoyed a relaxing, beautiful day !

Great swiming area

I love this beach, the small hutches are close to the water and the service is great. Good selection of fish and lobster to eat at a decent price. People and family friendly, live music for hire at low cost. The food is great and fresh.

Very nice beach

Something average between around Leon and Hermosa. The water is not cold and no big waves. There are a lot of restaurants and beach amenities. Don’t use guys who are inviting you to any restaurant, look yourself. We had a free hammock and friendly attitude. Strictly recommend to visit. Easy to get there and plenty of parking.

From the moment you cross the gate into the tourist area you are bombarded by people trying to get you to go to "their restaurant", if you go with one of them you will get charged extra so the restaurant can pay them for bringing you. Whatever restaurant you choose, keep a menu at the table to compare to the bill. Lots of times they will try to upcharge you and say, "well you asked for the small fish but we only had the large fish" so now your $5 fish is $25 and you really only got the small. We went in one restaurant for just a few beers one day but they brought us a menu anyway, good for us, bad for them, when we went to leave and asked for a check the guy would not give us a check just quoted a price that was twice the price of the beers we had. When we refused to pay the amount he was asking he threatened to call the cops, which was really really funny because he was standing under a sign that advertised their beer prices, we handed him a phone and told him to please call them and pointed at the sign, he finally took our money but that is a half hour of your life you will never get back. Oh, and if you are a female, no matter what restaurant you go to here, take your own toilet paper and lots of it, maybe even one of those travel size cans of Lysol? The bathrooms start at disgusting and wet and go downhill from there, depending on the restaurant you are visiting. There is a nice brick bathroom building by the parking lot for everyone to use but in 5 years living here I have never seen it open. I am guessing it is very nice since they never unlock the doors.

Simple restaurants and beach
Apr 2017 • Family
The service as such was ok for a simple type beach. Water quality low since lots of waves and dark sand. Be careful with the undercurrent which is extremely strong at this beach.

Nice and not touristy beach
There's a few small restaurants that offers fresh sea food and cold beer
(very cheap)
Kids with horses offers horseback riding.
And the ocean view is stunning.
Closest beach to Granada about an hour and 10 minutes.
- Other beaches in nicaragua are nicer.

Great surf, beautiful sunsets, great food. I haven't been there since 1993, there are more restaurants and thing to do. But, all you need is the basics.
