We visited the park with tour operator @CobanTravels (super recommended - Don Leonel, our guide was the best). We were there just 2weeks after ETA & IOTA storms so many sights were still down (repairing for reopening). From downtown Coban to San Juan Chamelco, we took a ~30 min drive (do to rains, our guide drove an AWD as precaution). We were lucky to have the entire park to ourselves.
We spent 30/45 min on small rafts oaring up a stream, after which our guide provided Boots, Helmets and lamps to go into the cave.
(Important to bring extra clothes - since water level was high from recent rain; we changed shirts, pants and socks after coming out)

The whole walk through the cave took about an hour (in/out). It is quite narrow at times and super slippery. We had our teenage daughters us (14/16 yo) and did more than fine. They enjoyed the experience a lot!

There is a short canopy you can take over a pond and also a hanging-bridge.

The park has much more room to spend the whole day and even do a Barbecue.
Just to be there, taking the environment in and breathing the chilly breeze was wonderful.

Their cafeteria and restaurant were closed (again... recent storms) so we brought water with us and lunched until later in Coban.
We completely recommend the experience!!!

The caves are wet, the path is rocky and sometimes very tight. The tour guide provided me with rain boots and a miner’s helmet with an attached flashlight. I was the only one on the tour on this day, and this was somewhat unsettling. This was the second cave that I explored on this trip to Guatemala and both were very interesting, and a bit scary but beautiful to behold. Exploring the cave challenged my flexibility and willingness to enter a dark place, but I wanted to confront my fear, so I summoned up my courage and went in. The cave is considered sacred and if you are willing to believe, you will be able to feel the energy. I chose to embrace the unique beauty and mystery of the cave. Now, I know to take my own head lights ... If their flashlight fails, you have a backup.it would be a good idea to have a back-up.

The Caves of The King Marcos Carlos Vargas 5ªC
a very interesting and mysterious adventure
with many hidden secrets is a unique and surprising touristic attraction, leaving me with an experience very different from what is already used.
After introducing ourselves into these caverns we observe natural beauty from another point of view.
We knew what is the total darkness inside a part of this cave called "the sanctuary"
a very special place that filled you with positive energy.
the landscapes within this cave are spectacular.
From formations in the very impressive rocks to a crystalline river.
I recommend them, this place has perfect to adventurers.

Grutas del Rey Marcos is a carstic cave. This place should be closed and be of limit to tourists. As a carstic cave it is not attractive at all. Beyond that, it has never been developed. The access to the cave is done in a absolute darkness and the visitor is completely dependent on the flash ligh. Big part of the entry is done by crawling on knees and if one dares to raise his head a head of time, a rock above him will remind him that it is a good thing to have an helmet. Moreover, is someone twist hi foot (which can easily happen there) there is no way to get him out. I understand the need of the park for income, but this cannot be at the price of risking lives.

If you like adventure and not claustrophobic this a place you will enjoy. The guides give you a great preview of the adventure in the cave. Inside you will be amazed by the structures. Afterwards you can take a refreshing swim in the river and natural ponds, very coold water!
light, helmet and rubber boots are provided for you.

A group of friends and me went in March, it has a nice river and small waterfalls.

The caves are ok, they are small and the guide was rushing us during the tour. Eating options are not so bad but is not the best.

We visit the park Grutas del Rey Marcos on January 25 2023 , we want to tell everyone to be careful when you PAY , let me tell you , when we reserve the place we made a deposit of Q 1500 quetzals and we rented 6 cabins . when I pay the total amount was Q 3175 for the 6 units. I make the mistake of paying the total Q 3175 but I forgot to deduct the Q 1500 from the deposit. But the guy did not say anything about it. After we left the place , I was driving and I realize the mistake the I made , I call them so they can give me the money back , it was Q 1500 quetzals . The owner was very nice and did a " INVESTIGATION " but no results , they have camaras and they check it to see if they can see something , but nothing . In the after noon another owner call me but he was not help at all. So I JUST WANTED TO SAY BE CARFULL IF YOU PAY EXTRA MONEY FOR A MISTAKE YOU LOOSET , HE PUT IT ON HIS POCK IT. The money comes and goes but the action stays forever. Other then they pocket the Q 1500 quetzals, everything else was beautiful and peace full.

Places to swim and hike, the cave is fun but not for kids. You have to crab crawl around some one and cross a river. I had a blast but the little kids were struggling
