Quite a small trail, but very informative about orchids. The price of 50 quetzales each includes insect repellant, an introductory video, a guided tour and a cup of refreshing tea. We were the only visitors (mid afternoon, mid-week) so we had a personal tour and a calm environment.

About an hour walking around the gardens admiring orchids of all sizes, including ones so small you'd need a magnifying glass to properly appreciate them. Our guide F was sweet and knowledgeable, although the tour was conducted in Spanish. All in all very cute timepass if you need to kill an afternoon on Coban.

Great way to spend 1.5 hours near Coban. Currently, tours are only in Spanish but you don't need to understand much to see the beauty of the flowers. Great place to spend money and aid nature conservation efforts in Guatemala.
There are so many species of orchid that something is guaranteed to be blooming any time of year. There was also a nice cardamom tea at the end.

We really enjoyed our visit
It was a lovely way to spend a couple of hours. The gardens are beautiful and the guide (Hector) was excellent. He taught us a lot about orchids and without him we would have seen nothing.
Well worth a visit

Excellent and informative tour. Interesting to learn about orchids and see so many. This place is doing excellent conservation work in the midst of a lot of a deforestation. Come here to show your support and to learn something new. 75Q for a guided tour and cup of tea at the end. Easy to reach by bus from Cobán. Take a bus opposite Plaza Magdalena heading in the direction of Guatamala city/ San Cristóbal Verapaz and ask to get off at the Orquigonia. Should cost between Q3 - Q5. Great half day activity.

Beautiful place and knowledgeable staff. I learned so much about orchids. Definitely a must see! Only 45 min from Coban. The tour is a little over an hour. You get warm tea at the end abs can also purchase certified flowers.

Guatemala, and the area of Cobán above all, is well known for its orchids. In fact, the national plant is a subtype of an orchid called the “monja blanca” (white nun). Orquigonia is the best place to see and learn about these beautiful plants. The tour is very informative and definitely worth the price. Highly recommended!

My partner and I had the best time on this orchid tour. The place has very unique and rare species never find anywhere else in the world! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, and even though he didnt speak English, Orquigonia found 2 girls that doing a scholarship in English and they translate everything for us. We just learned so much about the vulnerability of nature, specially due to logging. We ended the tour taken photographs on the VW Beattle Cabin which shouldnt miss or better yet, stay camping over night.

Orquigonia is a project of passion. Beautiful grounds, and very interesting facilities and work towards preserving orchids and other wildlife.
There are extensive greenhouses, and very knowledgeable work towards preserving and enhancing orchid habitats in Guatemala. The tour is well worth it, you'll learn about the work that they're doing in some detail.
The trails through the property are very well maintained and well-labeled. You'll see a couple of biomes on the property, with very nice walks through a sub-tropical environment.
One reviewer (Ben M) complained about his guide's reliance on Spanish. I was grateful that our group of about 20 had an English translator for the Spanish-speaking guide, but I would have been happy just gleaning the 20 words of Spanish that I know from the tour. We're in Guatemala, for heaven's sake. There are many signs in English and Spanish, enough so that you could just enjoy the music of the Spanish language while taking a tour, and getting information from the signs. Plus, possibly, an inspiration to learn a little more Spanish. Plus, celebration that you recognized a few words of a foreign language here and there. Well, that was my experience language-wise.
My experience nature-wise was simple amazement. Even before the translations from our tour leader, I could recognize that the Orquigonia guide was pointing out very tiny orchids, nestled among palm-sized leaves. I had no idea of the variety of orchids, but was awakened even absent a translation.
Don't miss this spot, the orchids will speak to you even if you (like me) don't understand the Spanish. Humans pointing fingers, and focusing your attention, will make even a language-free tour remarkable.
