Historic town with over 2,00 years of history. Heart of the old town has many lovely old Chinese shophouses. Great spot on the corner with delicious kanom chin and unusual sweets. We weren't there on a Sunday and it was still worth the trip.

Old town market

We went to Sunday market only to find it was food and produce mainly with a few stalls selling imported goods .. there were some unusual food items and the odd street performer. It was a bit out of the way 1000thb by taxi for the return trip.Well worth a look but don't expect much

Fabulous market. So much to see, smell, taste, hear and see!
A band was playing, the stall holders were very friendly, vibrant colours of food & textiles, different herbs, vegetables and SO much food to try. Everything we tried was delicious. Make sure you go there hungry, you won’t be disappointed. Starts around 3pm on Sunday.

For locals and tourists.

Having hired a car we decided to take a trip out to this market, its a nice drive through the mountains for about 20 minutes to get to this town. The main part of the market is on the main street through the middle of town which is barriered off to make it pedestrian only.I would say this is a market aimed at locals that has become popular with tourists.Several of the stalls are second hand goods, the rest are mainly food stuff and tourist items. The buildings in the town are worth a look and the lamp posts are very ornate metalwork.worth a look but would not go again.

Great bike ride from Khao Lak to Old Takua Pa
Jun 2019
Great old market with great local food. Also 'Little Amazon' worth a visit. Roads very good and off shoot roads down to local beaches are very good with excellent food venues. Bikes easy to rent and generally 300 baht for the day although from our resort Moracea it was 300 Baht for 24 hours.

Great local market

This is a great local market with fantastic food stalls, as well as other odds and ends. The architecture of the buildings in the town is gorgeous. We all really enjoyed our afternoon here.

Great to visit even if the markets are not open

Old Takuapa Town is only 30 kilometers north of Khao Lak and most definitely worth a visit. There are lovely quaint cafes, great local restaurants and wandering down the main street is a highlight in itself just looking at the old Sino Portuguese buildings and the friendly locals sitting out the front.

Some of these houses are beautiful, it is like stepping back in time and it is possible to go inside and look around, just look for signs out the front that allow this.

If you are there on Sunday make sure you go the famous Sunday market which starts mid afternoon, the main street is closed to traffic, try some of the delicious authentic food on offer.

Go for a walk along the riverfront, explore some of the Chinese Shrines and Temples. You will also notice many of the older generation still ride their pushbikes everywhere here.

Takuapa Town is a great place to visit.

Cultural Experience
Mar 2019 • Solo
I've been here several times and I can suggest to tourist that if you want to have a cultural experience and historical tour about Takuapa, this must be in your list. They have local market during Sundays, selling Thai local cuisines and pastries. If you're lucky, they have local performances too. Last time I got there, they have long bamboo chairs in the middle of the walk ways. In case you bought already some foods and want to eat it, then you can sat first while watching some series of performances. They got some trash bins around also.

The different local Thai Market
Feb 2019 • Couples
If you are staying in Khao Lak or near by you have to experience the Old Takua Pa Sunday Market! We went there at 4pm which was perfect - not to crowded and the people startet setting up the food and prepared it. It’s funny to see that you just drive 20 minutes away from the beach and you will find a Chinese looking small town with Chinese people. They were all really nice! We had great food and nice live music! It’s just a small market and you can’t buy clothes or accessories but it’s worth going there! The local taxis from Khao lak to Takua Pa cost 1000 Baht return and the driver will wait for you there ( we went from Robinson Club to go there I guess Fromm Khao lak Centre they want 1200 Baht which is still ok)
Market opens only sundays from 4pm til 8 pm and it’s worth going there!!!

Street Food Galore!
Nov 2018 • Couples
We were itching for street food markets and found it here!! Open only during high season (November- about April) and only on Sunday’s. Went about 4PM and that’s when most things were opening/open. Mainly locals and some tourists.

Beautiful architecture in an old (over a century) area of Takua pa.

Rows of food and some knock off products and tourist goods.

Highly recommend if you love your street food experience! Too much food to try in a sitting!
