Just finished a week of surfing with Manju and his team of excellent instructors and I recommend anyone who wants to truly fall in love with surfing in a very relaxed and respectful environment to come and learn from him. More than just being an excellent surf instructor, Manju transmits the joy and the love of surfing to anyone he takes out on the water. I can say that after one week surfing with him I feel confident to keep on learning and practicing wherever I go in a safe and confident way. Manju will share with you everything you need to be a very competent beginner/intermediate surfer and to make you will be safe and have fun in the water wherever you go. We went from our first time standing up on the board to dropping in to nice big green waves for a long ride within a week. Awesome!!

Manju and his family were so welcoming and accommodating of our every need. The rooms are super comfortable and quiet, with the semi-luxury rooms tucked back away from the road noise with a spacious area to eat or just hang out after a long day of surfing. We had a lovely private balcony in our room as well which was perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or a bite of lunch when we decided to order in.

I will definitely be back to stay with Manju any time I am in Sri Lanka and will recommend all of my friends to do so as well. Manju’s home and his instructors are a welcome refuge from the weligama party scene, so it’s a perfect place to come if the party is not for you or if you just want a quiet place to come home to when you’re tired of celebrating.

Thanks again to the Surfn Lanka team! I can’t wait until I have another chance to ride the waves with you all!!

I absolutely loved learning surfing with Manju! His enthusiasm and love for surfing is easy to catch. This was my first attempt at surfing and Manju's detailed and encouraging way of teaching helped me pick it up really fast. I fell in love with surfing on day 1!
What sets Manju's surf school apart from others is his warm, down to earth and honest nature. His entire family and the rest of the teachers are very welcoming and will go above and beyond to make you comfortable and ensure your stay and experience is something to remember.
The whole vibe of the homestay/school is very pleasant, light-hearted and I loved Manju's stories and humour, not to mention extremely wide and deep knowledge of surfing, sea and the waves. His way of delivering in-depth theory was always very interesting and the man really knows what he's talking about.
Even though surfing can be very tiring for a beginner, Manju created a learning environment where I couldn't wait to get back in the water and knew how to build my confidence up to continue surfing on my own after the course.
I would highly recommend their package!
The accommodation was very clean, modern, spacious with a lot of privacy.
All in all, I absolutely loved this experience in Weligama. I am 100% certain to return as soon as I can and direct my friends to Manju to learn how to surf.

Surf n Lanka has been a superb place to stay over Xmas, and because I loved it so much I came back for a few days at the end of my holiday in Sri Lanka, and I would love to come back sometime in the future.

It’s very relaxed and homely accommodation. Manju and his family are such nice and genuine people, and make the you feel very welcome and at home during your stay. The family style meals are great; allowing for a social atmosphere among guests, and the food is excellent too. They also did a great Christmas celebration.

The surf lessons are fab - I had Rohan for all my lessons and he is great. I am a beginner and while my natural ability for surfing lacked slightly I still developed a lot, and became more confident in the waves due to Rohan’s confidence and knowledge of the waves and surfing - he was really super. He would provide feedback on what I needed to change / did well on each wave, and helped me to feel safe in the waves, and try and take on some bigger waves. Manju’s passion for surfing and wish for you to develop comes out during his theory lessons with you, and when he has time to come out for a surf with you. I hope I can surf more in the future and find places like this where you can develop your abilities such a lot.

All round it was a fab experience, and I would highly recommend to those looking for welcoming nice accommodation, right on the beach and great surf with excellent teachers! It’s definitely good for solo travellers and groups - nice and social.

We spent a week at Surf n Lanka as group of 6 intermediate surfers from Australia.

Manju and Sammy were excellent instructors and effectively tailored the experience to our abilities.

We spent only the first day at Weligama beach to see where we were at with our surfing and the remaining days at reef breaks honing our technique in bigger conditions.

Speaking to my personal experience, I felt like I was really taken from beginner to intermediate with my first exposure to these conditions. The others in the group who were more advanced were given the option to surf additional more challenging reef breaks. Everyone made improvement over the course of the week.

Having Manju and Sammy as guides was invaluable as they were able to impart their local knowledge of the surf points. Overall I highly rate their coaching style for theory and technique.

The hospitality at Surf 'n Lanka was also exemplary with a friendly, laid back atmosphere and delicious in-house meals.

Book with Surf 'n Lanka, you won't regret it!

I can highly recommend the surf school! At Surfn Lanka I‘ve had the best surf lessons in Sri Lanka! I had most of my surf lessons with the owner of the surf school and I‘ve improved my surfing skills a lot (Level: Between Intermediate | Advanced). It was a 1:1 surf session. He gave me important tips that helped me to understand HOW to improve my my surf skills and he also explained the reasons WHY you have to do that. If you practise your surf skills by yourself, you can also rent a surfboard there for a good price!

Our 10 year old had a blast with his 90 minute surf lesson that was quite affordable. (He was also able to enjoy using the board for as long as he wanted afterward.)

The instructor was patient and encouraging. It was his third lesson in recent years, but one of the best.

Weligama Bay is an ideal spot for learning surfers with regular, even and relatively small waves (and a double break).

It is a bit crowded with dozens catching waves across the bay, but it is wide enough to accommodate these numbers without too many issues.

Surf n lanka camp is great place to learn how to surf and spend lovely time in friendly company! We've spent 7 days there and really enjoyed it! Here is some of advantages:
1. Full theoretical course from Manju, including safety and surfing rules, what are the waves, how to read and catch them, how to stand up on the board, how to turn and a lot of other things.
2. Twelve private practice lessons (1.5-2 hours each), every morning and late afternoon.
3. Surf board and lycra were available any time, if you want to do some extra practice.
4. Friendly host's family.
5. Great breakfasts and dinners.
6. Great location (guesthouse just near the beach, right across the road).
7. Friendly multinational guests (some of them came back to the camp for a multiple times, and they are really good surfers now).
8. Clean rooms.

Thank you Manju that you teached and treated us as a part of the family. Special thank for our instructor Rohan for great practice lessons that helped us to catch first green wave on the THIRD day!!! We've practiced a lot, we were out of energy every day, but we are happy, that was our goal - to train and to become a surfers. If you want the same, I would deffinatelly recommend this place. We'll return here to learn more, for sure.

I visited Surf n Lanka in 2017 to learn to surf, and made 2 other visits later on. Manju was an amazing guy and the only guy introduced surfing sport to Weligama in early 2000's before any other surf schools we see there (as I was told). About my experience, under his instruction I was able to pop up on the board within 40 mins. The techniques he uses are never taught in any other place. I have progressed myself from riding Soft-board to Short-boards and white waves to green waves. I am so happy about my progress. I also must admire his calm and can-do attitude, good hospitality and friendly approach towards guests. He'd not just teach you how to surf but also ensures you get a good knowledge about sea, how to read waves, pick the boards and the whole science behind how the waves are formed. That guy know what he's talking. I stayed at his guest house which was well above the standard.
I will surely go back if I ever visit SL again.

This was my first time in Sri Lanka and the first time on a Surfboard.. Went there because of the good experiences of sbd very close to me, rather spontaneously.. Best decision ever! I loved every moment there..
The accomodation is simple, nice, clean, comfortable and very quiet. I loved the healthy breakfast and didn't need much for the rest of the day. The surfing lessons were great for me as a beginner. My instructor really made sure I felt safe. I'm usually more under water (scuba diving) so it was a bit of a weird experience and sometimes the waves were a bit heavy for my taste, then he made sure I tried with smaller ones, or we stopped when I didn't feel safe anymore. No pressure ever. That was helpful.
Met a lot of lovely people in the camp, Manju and his family are lovely and he speaks english pretty well - and has many cool stories to tell. And an adorable bunch of cats made me feel right at home.
Manju showed us the surroundings as well, took us to the forest, to some tempels and to a snake farm. He booked me a massage when I really needed one and did everything to make me feel welcome and at home (I went there alone). I will definitely go back... it's been lovely 7 days and I left with a heavy heart.
The boys took pictures of us surfing so we all left with really nice pics of us riding our first waves and our progress, I really appreciated that..
it's a great easy going place and my sould really found some rest there.. thank you guys!! <3

We enjoyed our staying at camp and surfing lessons so much! Our host and teacher Manju was super friendly, helpful and kind. At his place you could really feel like you are the part of one huge surfing family. There are many foreigners at his place so you could also meet new people and make friends. Training were two times per day and lasted for at least 1,5 hours. Also great meals two times per day! I'd also like to thank our teacher Rohan that helped us to catch the green wave only on the 4th day! Surfnlanka teaches you quickly and carefully. If you really want to master surfing I would definitely recommend this camp. Choose season carefully because Christmas and NYE are super busy because of overcrowded beach. Thank you so much!
