Sta. Monica Church (also known as Sarrat Church because of its location) is one of the churches founded by the Augustinian missionaries in Ilocos region. This one dates back to the late 18th century. It is considered as the biggest Catholic church in Ilocos Norte. However, there's much more to it than that. It is a silent witness to various historical events, good or bad, but she remains unscathed in her monumental beauty and grandeur. The church is also well-kept and continues to impress whoever sets off in its solemn interior. The red bricks that compose it bear witness to Filipino artistry and aesthetic taste. Adjacent to the church, one can also visit the diosesan museum and be transported back in time. Also don't miss the equally beautiful belfry. The whole complex is truly a patrimonial treasure all Filipinos should be proud of.

Another Augustinian church which has a long path from door to the altar. Built in 1779 with red brick of an earthquake baroque style. This church holds a complex around it with other sites to see within the area, Though lacking other features like a choir loft, it still is a magnificent structure. Amazing to see this church and its doors opened at noontime. Place this on your bucket list if your in the region. #RP

This church has a very interesting history. From Japanese war to Irene Marcos wedding. Aside from that, it was, according to our tour guide, the church with the longest aisle in whole Asian. I like the whispering wall and the ruins...

It is in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte where the late President Marcos family house is located. 15-20 mins away from Laoag. It is so peaceful here. You can also visit the ruins beside the Church.

The church offers a lot of historical facts and figures. When we visited, the church is wide open for tourist. Our guide said that if we walked towards the altar with a left foot first, I'll get married. Guess what, I stepped the left foot. Haaaaay, waiting for that to happen.

Santa Monica Church is the oldest church in Ilocos Norte. Popularly called Sarrat Church, its location is 15minutes from Laoag City. It sits across Sarrat park & the town plaza. The old bell tower, which we rarely see nowadays, stood majestically by century old trees. The property is well preserved and maintained by the parish & townspeople. Inside, the church boasts of grandiose. Spacious, longest aisle to the altar, the nave was covered with high open ceiling showing molave trusses, brick layered interior wall, stained glass windows, wrought iron grills, religious relics lining the front door. A town truly influenced by the Spanish regime. Outside, don't miss the museum, the courtyard, the old church ruins and buttresses surrounding the church. Overall, it's beautiful - the town, the structure, its people and culture.

The town was preparing for a religious event when we visited so the area was very lively. The area was filled with a mix of local residents and tourists.

One of the best things that I liked about the place was the different street food available. It made me feel the sense of community in the area which I like when traveling to a different place.
