Whether this bell tower is really sinking or not, we leave it up to you. The fact remains that this brick-made monument is one of the prominent landmarks in Laoag City. It is strangely located far from the church of which it is the belfry. Well, it is not the only detached bell tower in the Philippines. Take the case of the bell tower of the Jaro Cathedral in Iloilo. At any rate, this "sinking" monument provides a good background for any pictorial. You'll be impressed by its massive, multi-tiered structure that has survived earthquakes and other adverse events since the early 17th century. Thumbs up!

Situated in the middle of the city of Laoag near the Provincial Capitol. I easily saw it while approaching the city proper but honestly, I missed checking Singking Bell Tower in my bucket list due to that I thought it was different structure from what in our itinerary, but in reality the one I've seen already was the missing attraction.

Better photo view if you go across the street where Saint Williams is (so can take
a full view of the bell tower). If you go to
the location of the bell tower it is so tight
and it's on a very busy street. But you can take a picture of the sign

This landmark has a lot of potential but i was disappointed that it was not well maintained by the city. I mean, you can see vendors around the area and it was such an eyesore. it's totally different from the Google photos.

Looks nice from afar though.

We were told by our local guide at the time that the tower was really sinking, but very slowly. The tower looks very well kept for its age, despite being around an urbanized community. It has no significant signs of deliberate damage nor vandalism even though the tower is unguarded and unwalled. The attraction is pretty minor as compared to other attractions of the region, but make sure you drop by for a selfie.

The bell tower is unrecognizable since there are many stalls and establishments surrounding it. You will surely miss it if no one will tell you about it. There are no historical marks that you can read, you cannot go in to appreciate it and There are a lot of cables hanging and cars along the way that taking pictures is a challenge.

Did not have much time to really see the whole place, but according to the tricycle driver, it is sinking due to the sandy foundation & the heavy construction materials used. We are so surprised to find it still standing since it was constructed sometime during the 16th century, truly a wonder of history.

It's a sinking bell tower, my grandmother used to tell me that during the Spanish era, the blood of the Filipino slaves were used to make the bricks last for centuries... It was quite horrific for myself as a child knowing how many deaths and slaves were used to build the once largest bell tower in the country. According to the historians, a man with a horse can enter the gates without stooping and now a person with ordinary height has to stoop to enter the gate of the tower! That's how the historic name of the tower started.

The best time to see the Sinking Bell Tower is during night. It's beautiful and picturesque while it's illuminating the charming city.

If the Tower of Pisa sinks on one side only, this bell tower sinks on all sides. It is believed to be sinking at a rate of an inch yearly, mainly because of its weight and the sandy foundation where it is built on. Passers-by are attracted because it stands alone on a vacant lot, with the main church said to be 85 meters away. What diminishes the beauty of this attraction are the construction of other structures around it, given that it is in the city center and the unsightly electric wires that disrupts the view of this old and beautiful church tower.
