Another landmark of Laoag constructed at the foot of the Marcos Bridge, over the Laoag River, which commemorates the lifting of tobacco monopoly in the Philippines in accordance to the royal decree of June 5, 1881 of King Alfonso XIII in 1881.

I didn't notice this monument immediately until I saw some words in the base of the monument. Then I realized that this is already the Tobacco Monopoly Monument. We went here in nightime, a lot of tourists were also in the area taking photos.

This monument is located in a roundabout across the Provincial Capitol. To go here, you need to cross the street where fast vehicles pass, so be very careful. This monument serves as a homage to the Ilocano tobacco farmers.

There is also a mini park located near the monument; but again, I think one must be careful in crossing the street.

It's a simple monument made of bricks since clayey soil is abundant in the Ilocos region. It is located at the center of Aurora plaza, across the provincial capitol. This structure was erected when the Spanish monopoly on tobacco was lifted making it a victorious event of the Ilocanos over the Spanish regime strict policies on tobacco.

Indeed this monument serves its purpose.. a reminder of how the tobacco business once flourished and bore the ilokano people's lives into the present state. It stands in the central park seen once one has crossed the bridge and enters the gateway to the city. When you stand by it, you see the city capital, the vice mayor's office, the sinking bell tower. The city center!

Wonderful monument located in the middle of the town square, under trees and numerous areas to sit. Traffic continually circling around the circle. A little dirty with trash flying around and garbage cans needed to be changed, but not too bad considering it was during a fiesta.

I came here with my ex-bf sighting a Pagudpod-Laoag-Vigan Trip. it was part of our itinerary and all I can say is its a SIMPLE Monument not that extravagant compared to Rizal Park in Manila. Its near a capitol of the city.. I really thought it would be huge.. but still its worth a picture to take. =)

This monument is in Aurora Park near the Laoag CBD (central business district.)

I took a photo with a calesa in the foreground to make it that little bit more 'historical.'

It's just some cement and a few bricks which could have been made and restored much much better. It's right in the middle of the city and next to the river , the garden square is ok with a small souvenir shop selling local handicrafts , if you in loag you will see the monument as its next to the big Loag white sign good for a picture
