James provided us with the trip of a life time !! From the moment we contacted James with intentions to travel to Africa he immediately began accommodating us , tailoring our itinerary to the exact experience we wanted and providing diff price point options that were very helpful . James is very knowledgeable in all things kenya/Africa and his expertise provided us with an exciting and well planned trip as we moved throughout Kenya to numerous locations . Everywhere we went was something new and exciting , and we always felt very safe . We were able to see the city before heading to safari and even ended at the beach ! James organized excursions and outings for us such as visiting the elephant orphanage, that was a humbling and heart warming experience. His background with animals , and dedication to the last two northern white rhino made this experience all the more special as he was able to provide a unique perspective to safari .while in ole Pejeta, we didn’t just see the animals but learned about them , and the hard work that is going on in Kenya to save the last two northern whites as well as many other animals that they care for . Everything that James stands for and contributes to ole Pejeta is in total alignment with what is good and what is right in this world, and it is truly hard to put into words the value of my trip to Africa. We were in Africa a total of 3 weeks , and when we parted ways from ole Pejeta & explored more of Kenya any time we needed anything or had any questions , he was always there to help . This was truly the trip of a life time and I can’t wait to come back and plan another trip with James !

I had an amazing experience with Jemu Expeditions. I went to Kenya to volunteer at a wildlife conservancy and was hesitant about also going on a safari since I was traveling alone, but after meeting James, I realized that not would I be extremely safe, but also would be so lucky to go with a true expert and lover of wildlife. James was a ranger for many years, so he's not only a wildlife expert, but he's also a conscious traveler. Every hotel and resort we stayed at, he made sure it was sustainably managed. He loves animals, wildlife, Kenya, and safaris, and he's such a great caretaker of his guests. We went to Lake Naivasha and visted crescent island, and then went to the Maasai Mara for 3 days and also visited one of the villages. I would recommend anyone and everyone to safari with James and Jemu Expeditions, wether you go alone or in a big group. It was an amazing trip and I absolutely LOVED my time.

We spent five days gamedriving in Masai Mara with Mwenda/ James and Kiranto / Wilson and they were five days spent in marvel and awe. We were gifted with so many impressive and moving images to cherish and remember for long after.
Mwenda is the most warmhearted and professional guide one could wish for. His humor and great passion for wildlife are equally contagious. That he chose to guide our trip in person also because he shares a passion for photography with my partner, who works in that field, was most appreciated.
Kiranto, who himself is a local Masai, scouted for us and provided us with all the informations curious minds could hope for - even such interested in foreign languages and their origins such as I.
We are so grateful to both of them and can only give our warmest recommendations to go on any expedition with either of them!

My 14-day safari experience with Jemu Expeditions was amazing! We visited Amboseli, Solio Game Ranch, Samburu, Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, Ol Pejeta, Lake Nakuru, Maasai Mara, and the Giraffe Center. The itinerary was tailor made, and my guide Sam Kim, made the safari truly memorable. Sam’s vast knowledge of wildlife, birds and plants, was astounding! I never knew the boundless variety of birds that existed there; Sam was able to identify them, just by their calls. He was informative, patient, easy-going and very accommodating. And Sam made sure that I saw all the animals of special interest. Also, all the camps and lodges booked by Jemu Expeditions were beautiful, and the staff, extremely pleasant. All in all, the safari with Jemu was an incredible experience!
I hope to return one day, but until then, I will hold on to the beautiful memories made on this safari.

I've visited Kenya before for work, but this time I brought the family (a mix of young kids and grandparents) and asked James Mwenda from Jemu Expeditions to organise a trip for us. The trip included Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, Mount Kenya and Lake Naivasha. From the moment we stepped out of Nairobi Airport, we were taken care of in the best possible manner: extremely well organised, friendly, knowledgeable, warm and responsive. He organised a trip that was perfectly suitable to our diverse group, made perfect suggestions to make it even better on the road, had everything organised to perfection and ... most importantly ... has been a really great travel companion and friend who knows the places, the people, the culture, the nature. We could not have been more happy!

You will not find another tour guide like James Mwenda! Not only is James a local, but he grew up near Mount Kenya and has led the fight to save the northern white rhino. He was an African Ranger for several years and knows the bush as if it were his backyard.

He will explain to you how the animals live, why they do what they do, what they eat, and can answer questions you have about the animals because he has so much experience with the African bush. From elephants, to rhinos, zebras, you'll see a wide range of wild animals. But the BEST part of going on Safari with James is that not only will you see the animals, he will explain why they are such an important part of the Earth's ecosystem.

James appreciates the animals and people on his tours and you can see that he genuinely cares about his team as well.

If you're looking for a rush from place to place safari and you don't want to know about the animals, then you'll want to choose another safari. However, if you want a life-changing experience that will give you a different perspective on the world and our place in it, then you'll want to book a safari with James.

I would highly recommend going on a Jemu Expeditions tour if you want to see the REAL side of Kenya, not just the touristy show and tell facade. I'm planning on bringing my daughter back next year as she is a photographer and James has amazing photography and creative workshop safaris as well as luxury safaris.

Everything about my experience with Jemu Mwenda Expeditions exceeded my expectations. I specifically chose my first visit to the African plains to be with James (Jemu) because I had long known of his reputation as a conservationist and his work with rhinos. This passion brings unique insight, and along with his experience of growing up in the Kenyan countryside, his guidance in crafting the perfect itinerary for us was invaluable.
Everyday we eagerly looked forward to our adventures. On our wildlife drives, we loved the focused attention we were able to give the animals (usually being the only people in the area) and because of that, we came across and witnessed some incredibly spectacular scenes at close range. (Our encounter with 2 lion brothers shaking their great manes out in the rain 20 feet from our vehicle is imprinted in my mind forever.) Our visit to the Maasai village was an unexpectedly rich and powerful interaction that allowed us to contemplate both the differences of cultures and the similarities in the human experience no matter where in the world one lives.
Our lodgings that were arranged for us in Kenya and Tanzania were quite comfortable... frankly the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. James always went above and beyond in considering our needs and even helped me retrieve an item that I left at the hotel in Nairobi even though we had traveled halfway across the country at that point.
As a former ranger, James shared many stories of his experiences in the bush and of his efforts to help save the last Northern White Rhinos in existence (as of this writing there are only 2 females left). His stories bring to life the issues at hand and organically inspires one to share the importance of conservation upon returning home.
Along with his palpable passion for animals and the environment, James also has a warm and genuine demeanor that draws you in and by the time your trip is over, you feel that you have gained a lifelong friend. I can say with certainty, we have!

I started researching this trip about a year in advance, and I was looking at all different websites. I decided that I would reach out to Jemu Expeditions for a quote. After reading through the website I really wanted to embrace eco-friendly travel, as that aligns with my personal values. I ended up choosing the Rhino Conservation Experience for 13 days.

The upfront work, getting vaccines and a visa was more than I have done for previous vacations, but all the extra stuff was worth it. I can't say enough amazing things about this trip. We visited 5 different parks/conservancies during our time. Each place was unique and special, all the people we came across were friendly and inviting. Each day had it's own magical experience that I will cherish. Specifically getting to see "the girls" and feeding Baraka in Ol Pejeta.

When I booked this trip I figured we would only visit Kenya once and this would be our "once in a lifetime" trip to Kenya, but before this trip was even over my husband and I were making plans to come back again.

In full transparency, this trip was not inexpensive, but the amount of care and love I felt coming off our guide, James, was worth every penny I spent. I felt like I was in the company of a good friend the entire time. There was a great respect for the animals and the environment that came from James, and I'm not sure I would have gotten that from another travel company.

If you love the planet, love animals and love learning about culture this is the company for you. I will definitely be back to Kenya and when I do, it will be with Jemu Expeditions. Asante sana!

For a family that has been to Africa on a few occasions, Epic, unbelievable, flexible, awesome, and adventurous are all words that fall well short of the experiences both us and our daughter had with James and Jemu Mwenda Expeditions.
Our itinerary was put together over about a six month period because we had planned on such a long holiday (56 days). Our itinerary changed on the ground as we took part in some incredible experiences, James and the team made these changes seem less and without trouble. The question is not who should we travel with in Africa, but when can we travel next! Can not recommend Jemu enough.

I recently visited Ol Pejeta conservancy with Jemu Mwenda Expeditions. I have visited the conservancy many times in the past with different companies.

Visiting with Jemu Expeditions was amazing. James has a very friendly and outgoing personality. He is easy to talk.

Not only did we share fabulous sightings but we had great conversations about the animals, the topography, the drought, challenges and victories that the conservancies and parks are facing right now

James' respect for the animals and the place was unbeatable. I learned so much from him and we shared ideas about how we can all be better stewards of the planet.

I HIGHLY recommend traveling with Jemu Expeditions for a great safari experience.
