Equator marker, though the line is imaginary, it is always a worthy stopover - stand on the equator line, freeze the moment, observe the coreolis effect demo (at a fee), and proceed with your journey. There are souvenir shops nearby, and if one has the time/interest, the sellers will give you a little tour at the back where some of them do the carvings..

Highlight: It's interesting to switch between the two halves of the world, and I was not left behind either 📸.

This is one of those places to get some photos, see some low-tech science experiment and enjoy the area. There are many equator markers throughout Kenya but this one is on the way to many Mt. Kenya stops, Ol-Pajeta, and the other conservancies in the area. It was fun, not too expensive, and a nice place for a photo. Don’t go out of your way to get there, there is only a sign and a photo op, you pay for the science experiment.

The great circle around the center of the earth!! And what do we have to show for it? Just a small, old, rusted signboard. This place deserves more fanfare and excitement!!

Due to the rain and the shut down of Hell's gate due to a lioness/cub sighting, we decided to visit the Equator marker. Was a little bit disappointed, since it was just a sign off the main road, so not sure if authentic. It was exciting to see the rotation demonstrated on a saucer with water on which a matchstick was dropped and seeing the clockwise and anticlockwise motion occur. The hawkers are determined to sell their ware but there are nice artifacts/souvenirs there. They try to sell you a certificate for your visit... ha ha.

One of those must do things, i suppose. This pit stop (for the loo) is a common stopping place for travelers. Its still fun to have one foot either side of the equator, although i'm not sure of this is exactly the equator.
If you come here you must run the gauntlet of all the sovenier sellers. There are some great things to be had, but watch out that you don't spend too much.

The site itself is not well marked and less than impressive. It was a good spot to take some pictures.

So we crossed the equator line two times (back and froth)
We also stopped to know the science behind it that how is water effected by being on the northern and southern of the line verses right on the line. They charge a small amount of money to show the water experiment but Its worthwhile a experience specially for the kids.

The marker is located by the main road, we came across on the way the Mount Kenya Safari Club from Nairobi.

Good for a shortstop and a photo click! Don't forget to check the water drainage rotation change when you move from one side to another.

There are several souvenir shops here as well, you must bargain for a good price!

A great place to stop and see science at work! Someone will do a couple of experiments with you to show you the impact of the Coriolis Effect. It's really remarkable what a difference 10 feet make. It costs a few dollars "donation" and you can also buy a $5 certificate saying you were on the equator if you want a cheap memento to go with your photos. There is also a curio shop attached and yes, the proprietors are dedicated salesmen. I found some beautiful jewelry there. Just remember to pay about 1/3 of the price they actually quote you. We actually found better deals with no haggling at our lodge gift shops.
