FACTS:
Everyone been to Goa, at least once, but we all have different experiences whenever we are there. Be it a trip to enjoy the beaches or to enjoy booze, drugs or parties, keep in mind that Goa is like every other Indian state with its culture and mindset.
1.The best time to travel to Goa is between November and March, when the weather is dry and relatively cool, the sea is calm and clear, February till September are pretty off seasons
2.You can try visiting Goa from June- September too to enjoy the monsoon rains
3.Beer in Goa is cheap, Buy your own booze too,but that doesn't mean you can smuggle it out or drink truckloads and create a ruckus.
4.The next time you are in Goa, try out some local Goan brands. There is one called Cabo, a rip-off of Malibu, that costs about 400 bucks a bottle. Another called Voodoo, a drink with 98% similarity to Bailleys Irish Cream.
5.There are an amazing number of hidden parties that happen on weekends in Goa. You’ll find posters stuck on trees, by the side of shacks, or on your way to the beaches.
6.Petrol is also cheap there, doesn't mean u smuggle that too in cans
7.Food is a bit costly for the visitors, so be prepared to check the price before u even grab a Pani Puri.Try Goan thali away from the crowded places where u get the best food ,especially in Mapusa araea Pernam ,Palolem Colva on south side
8.Goa is the second state after Orissa where the world famous Olive Ridley Turtles come to lay their eggs on Morjim beach.
9. Goa is the first state in India to permanently host the international film festival.Visit the PVR premises near Panaji
10.If u travel by train or by air , the nearest accessible place from Madgaon station/Dabolim airport would be Panaji else you can head to Calanguate or Baga for accomodation
11:Casinos are majorly based out in Panjim area
12.The official food of Mumbaikars Vadapav is originally generated from Goa,more precisely, to migrant bakers from Saligao and Siolim.
13.Hiring bikes would be the best option to travel around in Goa ,since there are few beaches which are not even accessible by cars
14.Try getting accomodations closer to beach like Calanguate beach resort Calanguate Inn etc
15.Baga and Calanguate are equally cheaper ,the major expenses would be more on food
16: It's very difficult to spot a Tea Shop, but not a wine shop
17:Be smart in Bargaining whether it could be rooms or any gift items u get from Goa
18:Try to keep a planned Itinerary from Day 1 till the end of Trip and book your taxis in advance for return travel
19:Goan Locals are nice people and you should try and chat to one. They are easily notifiable when you chat to them and they are very friendly and most speak English and Konkani or Portugese.

Scenic Beauty. The way to Old goa from Panjim was really awesome. I would prefer better rent a scooty and go. You'll enjoy it like anything.
Also it has one of the most beatiful Church. This is also a must go place.

Visited Old Goa on a very wet day in early March. Found the historical churches impressive but the information on them was quite limited, and what there was did little to bring you close to the times and people with which they were associated.
Like many such places around the world, once you've seen them there's no reason to return. I think I found the old houses and Government buildings in Panaji more interesting and memorable. And I can't blame the rain for this review, as I also walked around Panaji during it.

The seven WHS objectives lie within a 10-15min walking distance circle; however a more convenient and "local" way to explore them is by rented scooters. We started in early afternoon from Calangute and after a 50min trip we reached Old Goa quarters. The road was pretty tough with alternating clogged village and faster expressway segments, but in the end manageable even for beginners like us. We didnt spot any western-style cafes or restos around, so consider bringing some F&B along. 1. Basilica de Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral, Church of St Francis de Assisi, The Chapel of St CatherinePark your bikes in front of the shops by the entrance of Basilica de Bom Jesus, then after visiting it cross the main road to Se Cathedral and Church of St Francis de Assisi. These three churches make out the main touristic core of the site, so be prepared for the usual dose of noisy tourists, loud guides, and colonial opulence. Head towards The Chapel of St Catherine for a more tuned-down feeling, an ochre-colored small jewel nestled in its own small garden where tourist flows recede and the magic of olden days starts to work its way through. Enjoy a well-deserved hydration break with coconuts and plenty of water at the small shop just in front of the exit.2. Church of St CajetanA short few minutes ride through the forest will lead straight to the Church of St Cajetan. Despite its being modeled after Vatican's monumental San Pietro, the virtual absence of tourists will allow for an improved spiritual experience of the place. As you exit the church's compounds, head down right for a short glimpse of the Viceroy's Arch.3. Our Lady of the Rosary, Church and Monastery of St AugustineHead back the same way and up the small hilly road ending in the small, but exquisite Our Lady of the Rosary. If you are lucky enough to arrive here jist before sunset, then you are in for a treat. The silent, breezy halls filled with art and history. The view of the river with its lush forrested banks slowly filling with mist and mistery. What remains of St Augustine's is not much, but the scenic tower with the sun setting through its arches does make for a sight to remember. You can easily take the road leading to Panaji, and through some scenic old villages with goan mansions and portuguese chapels, just from St. Augustine's. Allow for plenty of unwind & relax time once back to your accommodation area to make up for the energy well spent.

Goa’s former capital was considered the ‘Rome of the East’. You can still sense that grandeur, as you wander what’s left of the city, with its towering churches and cathedrals. Its rise under the Portuguese, from 1510, was ephemeral, as cholera and malaria outbreaks, forced the abandonment of the city in the 1600s.
It is a UNESCO World heritage site. Managed really well. Clean and good place to relax and study Portuguese rule in Goa. Some of the most imposing churches and cathedrals are still in use and are remarkably well preserved, while other historical buildings have become museums or simply ruins. It’s a fascinating day trip, but it can get crowded: consider visiting on a weekday morning. White washed Goa Cathedral and “Basilica of Bom Jesus” are the must visit places!
Fused with Christian and Muslim culture, the Old Portuguese architecture have turned up to be cute guesthouses on clean narrow lanes behind the busy seashore road with the views of the offshore casinos and island backdrops. There are plenty of inexpensive shops for clothes, electronics and street food. . There are activities available near this place at Diwar Ferry point; where one can opt for Crocodile and Backwater sight-seeing by boat. Fantastic experience guaranteed

Old buildings crowded with people. It has some picturesque walks and is quite a busy street trading area.
It’s the sort of place you visit once.

Clear blue sky with coloured balloons on a greenish blue sea, golden beach, with the aroma of foods all-around, sitting in a sac, placed the order for starter before lunch, came the beer. But starter to main course of lunch took three hrs, another hour to finish… in between a couple of more beer bottles and soda with lime. Neither we, nor the restaurant are in a hurry. This is beautiful GOA. Bill of the restaurant is logical, except my companions grumbling or higher rate of soda lime than beer.
First two days in Baga Beach , in “COLINIA SANTA MARIA”. It is an experience, no high rise, only duplex , scattered on green, surrounded by green, with restaurant, car park, coffee lounge and Library, plunge pool etc. and a few mnts. walk and you are on the beach. Restaurant serves wholesome breakfast, complementary, to last for a long. Lunch and dinner, we have tried out to taste the variety .But here is the disappointment. Barring a few, most of these roadside restaurants serve hardly any good or authentic Goanise cuisine. So better be careful and their cost is more or less same as our Hotel CSM. We hired two wheelers from Mrs.Angela(09850946605), with little bit of bargaining and rode around at ease. I think this is the best way to roam around and enjoy. In addition to your DL, which you must carry on while driving, you should carry your voter ID or pan card with you, because you have to keep this for security with the vehicle owner. Petrol is cheaper than any other states and easily available, but the dearth of oil bunkers caused a rampant black market.
Names of the beaches are irrelevant to me, because all are good. Either you want to sit and enjoy the view, or join the activity. Dawn is seldom crowdy. May be Goa being on the western coast. Sun set is more attractive than sunrise. Or the late night parties and driving makes difficult for the early rise. I being an early riser enjoyed both, and believe me, I found the dawn more attractive. The cool, the serenity and best of all you can be alone with your sea.
Next two days we spent in Hotel Fidalgo, in 18th June Road, in the heart of Panaji, a different experience altogether. Hospitality, service, food etc. are same no doubt, in one word excellent. But the ambiance is different. Naturally, it is being on the commercial district. It has got different restaurants according to your taste, they are simply exclusive. Here the complimentary breakfast has got much more varieties. Once you fill yourself up, you can be rest assured for at least next seven to eight hours.
All sort of cruise are available from this area, including gambling one also. Sun set cruises are most popular. There are several back water cruises also. But we were little bit of skeptical about all these private operators. Goa tourism gives little options other than sun set cruise.
We hired a car from Mr.Prasad R.S. (9326127716), and roam around Goa for two days, and we enjoyed it very much. Roads are excellent, with the hide and seek view of blue sea from the top of the ghats,. Time to time river Mandovi accompanied us, with green vegetation on both of its banks, crossing ferries with car, truck and passengers. Goa is beautiful indeed.
As a matter of fact, for pleasure of driving, we went to Bondla Wild Life Sanctuary, some hundred k.m. or more from Panazi. It does not have anything wild but a small zoo, very quiet and hardly any tourist. It also does not have any food stall. On our way back we spent some time at Safa Maszid.
Goa is famous for its churches, and their histories, so are the temples but we came across a Muslim shrine Safa Masjid or The Shifa Shahourie Masjid. Literally, the Arabic word ‘Safa' means clean, chaste and pure and the title befits this beautiful structure which is devoid of any mindless extravagance and grandeur. It is meant for the chaste, clean and for the pure at heart The authenticity and the factuality is that it was Sultan Ali Adilshah I who built the Safa Masjid of Ponda in 1560 since the period of Sultan Ali Adilshah I was 1557-1580. The Safa Masjid is a fusion of Indo-Islamic style. The roof is tiled and you also find some ruined standing laterite pillars. The mosque and the tank were formally surrounded by an extensive garden with many fountains. The sight of the mosque from the main Ponda-Panaji road is extremely pleasant to the eyes.
Goa is a complete tourist package, consist of sea, hill, green nature, history, food, drinks etc. etc. it is up to your choice only, weather you want to lay back or roam aroun

I did everything with the same driver. I just met a taxi driver and asked for the price to visit Bondla wildlife sanctuary the next day. From then on I did everything with him and I would pay for each tour I would do with him. I didn't think it would be necessary to do these group city tours. But you can also try those ones, especially if you're staying in an hotel. I've been told that they have leaflets advertising lots of things to do in Goa. But honestly, once you're there, you'll find lots of things to do.

We are on a cruise ship and will be spending 1 Day in Goa. What are the suggestions of what should do and see? We like to do walking tours and also take in some of the culture...especially food markets and tasting some of the native food. We are 4 active seniors. Thanks for any suggestions. We will be there in early April.

You have to be more specific on where in Goa will you be? To give an idea, Goa airport to the best beaches is a 3 hours drive! Goa is more known for its beautiful beaches and cheap liquor than anything else but they are far apart.
If the ship docks in the capital city Panjim (Panaji), which sounds the more obvious, you basically have two options:
Option 1: In Old Goa you can see many churches and monuments that are really worthwhile. It is however about an hour's drive from the harbor area and city center. You can use the red hop-on-hop-off bus (it passes the port every hour) to get there and it is rather cheap. They will also hand you all the information on things to see in Old Goa (brochures and information leaflets) on the bus. Once there you can walk from one church to the other and there is a small market there as well. This will however take up your entire day. Once finished you hop on the bus and travel back to the port again.
Option 2: Walk a few minutes to the Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception or ask any taxi to take you there, and from there walk down the street (markets) and do some shopping and experience the culture. A little behind the church there is Venite restaurant where you should have lunch. This should also keep you busy the entire day but with regard to other things in Panjim there is really not much more to see or experience in one day.
Enjoy!

Is the dress code in Goa different than other places. Especially on beaches etc. we are arriving in Chennai on the 10 the and making our way to Goa via a private car... have read a lot about conservative dress and so forth. We will be staying at the Park Hyatt there
Written October 4, 2017
There is no special dress code for Goa. Normal beach wear on the beaches and modest dressing at religious places as in any other location.

hi our 4 friends are planning to come to vasco on may 21-26 which are the best tourist spots to visit there plz suggest me good places
Written May 5, 2017
Hi
Now it all depends what your friends like
You have the following choices :
Beaches - All over North and South Goa
Churches and Temples
Some of the Best Churches and Temples are in Goa
Old Goa is a must visit place - The Christian Saint St Francis Xavier is placed her for centuries and undisputed must visit destination for all tourist
The Mangeshi temple at Ponda is perhaps one of the oldest Temple and visited by all
Spice and Botanical Garden - that is if you can have the luxury of several hours
The River Cruises in the Night at Panjim
Casinos also at Panjim and the Panjim belt
Food - Seafood and I mean prepared the local way is simply yummy - I won't suggest names of restaurants coz that may be a biased view
If Vegetarian - stick to exclusive veg restaurants coz you may be disappointed elsewhere
Vasco is a very crowded city - Mormugao harbor is next door - you can see the entire harbor on your drive from Vasco to Mormugao
There are Markets in every city - Margao And Mapuca are the best markets where you can actually spend half a day just window shopping
On Fridays is Mapuca Market day - you are bound to step on someones foot several times
Hope your friends enjoy themselves

I am planning to visit Goa from 11th to 18th 'March 2017.
Can you suggest a itinerary for a 7 days trip in Goa ?
I want to visit beachs both in North & South Goa. 1 day visit to panjim,Old Goa & also like to take a evening cruise in sea at Panjim.

Hi,
7 days is a good enough time for Goa and you can see a lot and relax too.
I'd suggest starting from South Goa. You can spend 2 quiet days at Agonda beach which is ranked in top ten beaches of Asia and is absolutely serene.
From there you can go on to Panjim which is a good two day trip to explore the local food and culture of Goa. Old Goa is also very close to Panjim and is a day trip of few hours.
The last three days you can stay in Mandrem which is one of the best beaches in North Goa since most other beaches are very crowded and not that clean.
Hope that helps :)

Hi,
its actually off season in September in Goa... But this is the itme when you will find the nature at its most pristine, with light showers in morning and evening, lush greenery, cloudy and breezy weather to ride around on a bike or open jeep, choppy waves, good for a surf board run
The place will be less crowded, some popular establishments even close out or re-model thier joints for the prime season starting in October but that doesnt mean there will be no nightlife..
the best food and dine places will be open and finding a seat will be easier, prices will be cheaper to boot... So will the taxi and scooter hire charges be less... Best part, hotels will be at half price and will throw in better amenities as addons
Pubs like Curlies, Titos, hype etc will be up and running through the wee hours of night.. If you are local, you will take heart to know even foreign visitors will be swarming the lanes of goa in this time.
I have been to goa in virtually all seasons and i feel August-October is the best time to be in Goa. Nature at its best, people at their friendliest and laziest, food at its yummiest.
