About
Dating back to the 1800s, his graveyard is an interesting, peaceful spot of interest to visiting genealogists, history buffs and the simply curious. Graves of Native Americans lie alongside former valley residents and even a few casual visitors.

I am a Yosemite Indian and visited the Yosemite Cemetery to see my Paiute ancestors.
I paid my respects to those Paiutes who were buried there. I then went to Indian Museum and bought a small booklet about the Yosemite Cemetery.
To my surpise the booklet sold at Yosemite National Park had the Indians of Yosemite cemetery as Miwoks.
That is incorrect and hopefully Yosemite National Park Service can fix this. The Yosemite cemetery is only a few yards from the Indian Museum. The writers of the booklet should have notice that Lancisco Wilson's grave maker, which is the photo, has a big "PIUTE" on it and not Miwuk.
Piute is also Paiute. The Paiutes are a totally different tribal group than the Miwuks.
See acutal photo of Lancisco Wilson's grave marker in Yosemite National Park cemetery.
The park needs to fix this error or the public will have the wrong impression of the tribal history of Yosemite. Hopefully they will fix that.

One of the interesting places to visit around Yosemite Village is the 19th century Yosemite Cemetery which includes the headstones of Native Americans and pioneers from the early days, including important figures within the park's history such as Galen Clark.
Galen Clark was the first European American to see the Mariposa Grove fo sequoias and served as the superintendent of Yosemite National Park for 24 years. He passed away in 1910 and was buried within this cemetery. Clark's headstone is s simple stone with an inscription of his name and years on earth.
You can conveniently visit the Yosemite Cemetery while sightseeing around the Yosemite Valley Visitor Centre and Museum which are nearby. It can be comfortably browsed in 5-10 minutes.

It looks very discreet and very old. Some of the tombstones bear the names of the pioneers of the park. Some do not have names but they were residents of the area, born and raised. It is good that they are honored in a way.

Pay attention then you would see the subtle tombs in the woods but there is not much background information about the deceased.
Rest in peace all the beautiful souls beneath the peaceful Yosemite park.

The Cemetery at Yosemite is fine. It’s nearby the visitor center and all of the hubbub, but I don’t believe it’s worth going out of your way to see.

I love cemeteries and love to read the old tombstones but this cemetery is haphazard. We were looking right at it and had difficulty determining it was a cemetery. Not interesting.

Every time we visit Yosemite we walk through the Pioneer Cemetery. Even Galan Clark, the first one to explore Yosemite Valley and become it's caretaker, is buried there!

We stumbled upon the cemetery when we were just walking around the area. Didn't even know it existed. Very well maintained and peaceful.

This small cemetery is in the heart of the valley, nestled between the granite walls. Quiet and serene, it's a quick and easy walk.

With all of the majestic sites you see while looking to the heavens, it's easy to miss this historic site at your feet. About a block west of the Visitor's Center, this is a good place to take a quiet break from the crowds. I would have like to have some written background material, but didn't find any.
