We took the short hike to Artist Paintpots and Blood Geyser. This is one of the most colorful areas of the park. The hike to Blood Geyser and the base of the Paintpot area is flat and easy. The best views are from the top of the trail which involves an elevation gain of over 100’ to access. We made the climb and enjoyed the expansive views of the thermal area. We were able to get close up views of the colorful Paintpots as well with their oddly satisfying plopping sounds. This hike is well worth the extra effort. Note that the parking lot fills up at busy times so plan to come early or be patient for a spot.

Beautiful walk to see artist Paintpots and blood geyser. Overall a nice walk up to the hill for a total of almost mile. Blood Geiser is a the the lower left of the hill and paint pots on top of hills. View is worth the walk up.

We enjoyed walking around the artist paint pot geyser area in Yellowstone NP. There is a nice trail which takes you to the boardwalk trail. You can walk up to the viewpoint to get a better view of the area

Artists Paint Pots, is a group of over 50 springs, geysers, vents and mud pots. They have varying shades of blue, grey and brown, and have a range of different textures, with the behavior changing during the year depending on the amount of subterranean water.
All the active features can be seen via a 0.6 mile trail through partly wooded land - mostly level apart from a short climb and descent across the hillside overlooking the basin.
The boardwalk let’s you get up really close so you can get good pictures, video and even the smells.
I would recommend a sun hat if you go in August and some water even though it’s a shorter hike there is climbing for that nice view.
One of the underrated thermal areas of the park. I would definitely recommend.

If you are short on time, I would give this a pass. Yellowstone definitely has better sights to offer. We spent 4 full days in Yellowstone (9/3 - 9/6) so we were hitting the not so popular spots as well. Compared to the other highlights in Yellowstone, this can be a miss.
We came at 1 pm on Saturday (9/5) over Labor Day weekend. The parking lot is small and there were a long line of cars. We had to wait for a car to leave to get a spot.
The trail is 1 mile round trip and it took us around 35 minutes. In order to get the aerial view, you have to climb a bunch of steps gaining 100 feet of elevation. There was 1 bubbling mud pot that was interesting and I guess that's why they call it Artists' Paintpots. However, if you are looking for mud pots, you can go visit the Mud Volcanoes which was much less crowded and required much less walking.

The trail to artist paintpots was short, partially on boardwalk and only uphill in one area. It was well worth doing to see the paint pots gurgling and splashing mud. We also saw some interesting small geysers and fumaroles.

We had to wait for a parking space and the hike was steamy. It was worth it because the various colors of the paint pots were stunning and you could view them from various heights on the trail. Note that part of the trail is elevated and requires the ability to climb steps.

This was our first stop on our first full day in the park. The paint pots are visible and you can also smell them from the trail. You can see quite a bit just staying on the level paths but if you want a better view, the trail is steep but short so be prepared. Once on top, you have a great view of the paintpots along with terrific views of the park and it's many fumerols. Recommended!

Quite a few lovely colors in the hot pools of Artist’s Paintpots. There is a nice boardwalk that also goes up higher, allowing for a sturdy walk if you have the energy (and good views). As always in Yellowstone, parking is limited, so best to come early or late in the day.

No parking management at all. The lot is small and people were parking in the lanes to get into and out of the lot, creating a nightmarish traffic jam. We never got in to see the sulphuric pots. The park service was no where to be found. Awful and very disappointing.
