To try and capture a good Yellowstone experience it would be worth your time and expense to explore it with those who know it best. My husband & I recently did the ‘Best of Yellowstone’. It was 5 days and 4 nights of an Inn based tour. Transportation was provided starting in Jackson WY. Meals included. We had the most knowledgeable, experienced and truly friendly guide named Chris R. He is the reason I can rate this trip a 10. Whatever questions we tossed at him he knew the answer. We had a great group with 6 of us. It made for a great experience to share our love of the outdoors with others who shared our passion for hiking and nature.
Each day was filled with great hikes (Elephant Back, Mt Washburn and the trail to Lone Star Geyser), beautiful views and iconic Yellowstone landmarks like Yellowstone Lake, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone (Upper & Lower Falls), Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Falls, Gibbon Falls, Fairy Falls as well as the Lower Geyser Basin, Grand Prismatic Spring and Old Faithful. We saw beautiful wildlife including a herd of 250 bison roadside, elk, bighorn sheep and bald eagles.
We have travelled with Wildland Trekking previously and had such a great experience we booked this trip and it was above and beyond our expectation. Wildland does offer a lifetime 10% discount following your first trip. We are already looking to taking another trip with Wildland Trekking.

Hands down one of the best experiences of my life! From the first interaction until the final moments, I have only had a positive experience. Beau was our guide for a 7 day, Gallatin Skyline backpacking trip. I’m not going to lie and say I am a pro at backpacking, I am far from it. I didn’t have to be, because Beau and the Wildland team prepared all of us for what we were going to experience as best they could. If you’ve never hiked a day in your life, this isn’t the trip for you. If you feel comfortable hiking and physically fit, I believe you can do this (because I did). The itinerary is stacked in a way that it gives you necessary breaks to recuperate but also to keep pushing yourself. Our group was made up of all single travelers. If you are in the same boat, don’t worry! Beau made sure that each one of us felt comfortable with everyone and with what we were doing that day. As a group, we completed everything.

Meals: I had no idea what to expect meal wise, as my backpacking experience is limited to shorter trips. Beau did a great job of preparing a diverse cuisine that was lightweight (important, as everyone carries some in their pack) and tasty. Breakfast included a hot beverage of choice (coffee/tea) and meal. We had everything from breakfast quinoa to peanut butter/apple tacos. Lunch was trail pizzas to hummus bowls. Dinner was beef stroganoff (highly recommend) to a Brazilian dish that was to die for. There was always plenty of water available to fill our bottles/water bladders up with. I never went hungry. On the trails We had snacks that we could divy out when needed.

Packing: as a newbie to backpacking, I had no idea what I really needed to bring. Beau did a great job of taking the time to layout what he packs and what the company provides, so that I had a better idea of what to pack. I will say that by following what he sent, I didn’t pack too much or too little. The only thing extra I would have brought was water shoes.

Hiking: I am not going to lie and say that this wasn’t challenging because it was. Hiking with a 40lb pack on is no joke, trust me. Do the necessary training! You’ll feel better and have more fun.

Overall experience: if I could do the trip all over tomorrow I would. Beau took care of all of us and taught us a lot along the way. This hike offers phenomenal views Of paradise valley, the Gallatin range and so much more. I will definitely book with Wildland again in the future! If you are lucky enough to get Beau as a guide, just know that you will come out more knowledgeable about nature and have a greater appreciation for being outside.

Another amazing trip with Wildland with highly experiences, professional guides who love what they do. On this trek, I got to experience and learn about camping in bear country, crossing rivers, dipping in natural hot springs and surviving swarming mosquitoes. This was my second llama trip with Wildland and lucky me, our guide Brett, a llama trainer, could answer all my nonsensical questions about the llamas, treating us with baby llama pictures. I mentioned (jokingly) that I wanted cake for the trip and Brent went out of their way to make sure cake was going to be on the menu!

The other shining star of the trek was guide Danielle (Dani) who would point out flora (thimble berries and wortle berries - oh my!) of the greater Yellowstone area and educate us on the terrain. Not only did she make sure we were well nourished every morning noon and night, she administered first aid - checking in every 2 hours on one of the trekkers who had a bad reaction to summer insect bites. Her positive attitude and her inner and outer strength throughout our 6 day trek with 8 llamas and 8 adults was awe inspiring.

Did the Heart Lake and Snake River tour with Beau and had an absolutely fantastic trip. I hadn't been on a real backpacking trip prior to this but Beau was helpful in his gear recommendations and setting expectations pre-trip.

During the actual trip Beau was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the geography and ecology of the region and had plenty of anecdotes to share, both personal from his prior trips and those he had read about. He was entertaining and fun to talk to both during the hikes and while we were relaxing at camp. He was genuinely interested in getting to know us and is a very interesting person himself with a broad range of life experiences and compelling stories to share that kept my entire group laughing and engaged. His cooking / food preparation was outstanding and exceeded my expectations for what we would be eating on the trail. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners all had a lot of variety and Beau was constantly seeking feedback from us so he could improve his meals for his next trek.

If you're considering doing this tour or another Yellowstone trek I would definitely recommend requesting Beau as your guide.

This was a once in a lifetime trip. Thad was such an amazing guide that was very knowledgeable on all the flora and fauna around the park. And if he didn’t know, he had a book for us all to look through and find out. The food that he prepared every night was like nothing I’ve had on a backpacking trip; three days in, and we’re having chicken salad wraps with fresh cucumber and pepper! I would highly recommend Wildland Trekking, but if you can get so lucky as to have Thad as a guide, then you’re in for an even better trip.

My backpacking trip (Thorofare) with Wildland Trekking was great. Having been on a number of adventure travel trips I know that it is the quality of the guide that makes the trip, and our guide Jack was outstanding - skilled, knowledgeable, cheerful, and an all round excellent leader of our little group. The food was great too, and he even carried a french press in his pack for real morning coffee!

This was our 2nd trip with Wildland Trekking & they and Yellowstone did not disappoint. All of our group have done the drive around the crowded touristy loop Yellowstone but we wanted to see and learn more about an incredible place.
Our guides Matt & Tiffany were just amazing, tremendous knowledge, great with group dynamics, excellent food and even accomodated us vegetarians with tasty options.
No guarantee, but we saw plenty of wildlife and even....wait for it...a grizzly bear..oh my!!
We cannot recommend Wildland Trekking enough for your visit to Yellowstone, & we offer as proof: we have booked pur 3rd trip with them for May into the Grand Canyon, simply put..they know what they are doing and take great pride in making sure you have a great trip.

This was our second trip with Wildland Trekking and it was excellent. The hiking was challenging as described but the amazing views made it worth it. Our guide Beau was very knowledgeable and good at making sure that everyday was a good one. The food he cooked was excellent and he picked out camping spots that had excellent views. I highly recommend traveling with Wildland Trekking.

We went on a private Base Camp trip in Yellowstone and was our first experience of camping as a family and first trip to Yellowstone. Wildland provided all of the equipment that we needed and everything was very well arranged and of high quality. The camping was comfortable and safety was always highlighted.
Chris was our Leader/Guide and he was key to a wonderful experience. His professional relaxed manner made for a great experience. He was also a good cook, the food was excellent.
We spent 5 days climbing peaks, in the canyon, by the lake, Geyser basin and then a relaxed drive back to Bozeman. We were lucky enough to see wolves, bears and moose as well as Elk and Bison.
It was described as 'medium' difficulty itinerary which I think was fair, it was a full day every day, which is what we wanted. Our 16 and 13 year old kids particularly loved it.
Yellowstone is a true star and bucket list destination that doesn't disappoint.
I would hesitate to recommend the Base Camp trip by Wildland.

Initial backcountry trip was planned for the Greater Yellowstone area, but had to be rerouted because of the recent flood. Wildland adapted quickly and although we ended up spending only one night in a different backcountry area rather than two nights in Yellowstone, our guide, Noah, was great! He adapted to the changes well and constantly made us feel safe. He also had plenty of great stories to tell throughout our trip and cooked amazing food.
