- KimClayton, North Carolina202 contributionsYellowstoneYellowstone was beautiful. So much to see and do. We had been told that the weather can change quickly. They were right. It was 50 degrees and sunny one minute and within 20 minutes it was cloudy and rainy. The temperature dropped to 37. It wasn’t very busy. I am glad we went at this time.Visited May 2023Traveled with familyWritten May 8, 2023
- K BLafayette, California443 contributionsA beautiful iconic spotAside from Old Faithful, the Yellowstone River Canyon and Yellowstone Falls are well known icons. The canyon is amazing and the falls are spectacular. All along are numerous view points. We liked Artist Point bestVisited May 2023Written June 20, 2023
- Demon MikeMelbourne, Australia270 contributionsGrand Canyon of YellowstoneWe were in Yellowstone National Park in June 2023. We walked to the upper falls lookout. It was an intersting walk with spectacular views of the canyoun and the waterfall. we then drove to the lower lookout. You need to walk down some 600 feet to the viewing platform. The view there is similarly spectacular. This was certianlya highlight of our visitVisited June 2023Written June 20, 2023
- 5inavanSouth Deerfield, Massachusetts863 contributionsI came for the snow, and found it 6/23/23I had seen a picture from the week before while still at home, and there was snow to the left of the waterfall. It was still there when we arrived ! The Grand Canyon is smaller than Arizona's, but the water and what it cut out is equally impressive. There were many spots to view different angles of the masterpiece. Many people chose this as their best experience in the park.Visited June 2023Written July 1, 2023
- SeniorTravelerTF1,199 contributionsHighlight of central YellowstoneThe park is so spread out, and travel slow because of traffic and animal blocking/sighting, that you should stay where your primary interest and time indicates. If it is the geysers, try to stay south. If it is the canyon, mudpots and river stay central, and the north has Mammoth and the wildlife valley. There are trails along both sides, south and north, of the canyon. Easy and relatively (couple of miles) shorts.Visited June 2023Written July 4, 2023
- K-GoOrlando, Florida24 contributionsA Must-See in YellowstoneThis is the most amazing site! We visited the canyon two days in a row. There are both paved rim trails and more rigorous trails down into the canyon to get you right next to the falls. I'd recommend getting there early in the morning or before dusk, as that is when the canyon is least busy and at its most beautiful.Visited June 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 6, 2023
- varneykrHancock, New Hampshire483 contributionsMust see. Do not skip this! The grand canyon is a must see. There are several vantage points to see the falls and the canyon itself. If you can walk down to the brink of the lower falls, do it, but, remember you must walk back up. Also, if you are walking on the boardwalks, remember to stay single file and be courteous to others. Artist Point is a beautiful vantage point. Highly recommend!Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 21, 2023
- Gretz8 contributionsThe best viewsHard to rate the best attractions in Yellowstone, but if you ranked this #1, you wouldn’t be wrong. Probably the most scenic views you will get in the entire park. Awe inspiring at all of the different view points. Make sure to check out artists point!Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 16, 2023
- Rick BRound Rock, Texas1,305 contributionsVery impressive canyon available to all.The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone! This was a bucket list item for me. Although you can drive the south rim we opted to hike it from Chittenden Bridge to Artists point because, hey, that's what we do, we hike! And we got to see more of the canyon. The hike is about 3 miles out and back and is of moderate difficulty. We ate a lunch before starting at the picnic area near the Chittenden Bridge but go early there are not alot of tables and some of the tours set up lunch there. Down in the woods are some nice logs to sit on if no tables are available. We started our hike here and the first stop was the Upper Falls Viewing area. The upper falls fall 109 feet. Next, we hiked down the canyon rim towards Artist's Point with several, unbelievable in number and beauty, views of the canyon. We also got some great views from different aspects of the lower falls. The lower falls falls are 308 feet high which is twice the height of Niagra Falls. It is the largest volume waterfall in the Rocky Mountains. This was a pleasant hike for us lots of shade, but we are experienced hikers. For the occasional hiker or non-hiker it could prove to be moderately strenuous.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 23, 2023

I didn’t realize there was a canyon at Yellowstone, what a view! The steps at Uncle Toms was closed so we decided to hike the Red Rock trail at lookout point and also did the brink of the lower falls trail. I recommend getting here early as it has small amounts of parking and you will want to beat the crowds. The canyon and falls was simply fantastic!

WOW, this was my favorite part of our whole Yellowstone trip. What an amazing sight and experience. We visited a number of stops all around the canyon and each one was better than the last. I highly recommend you plan to spend at least a half day exploring this area of Yellowstone and start early to avoid some crowds. This should definitely be at the top of your list for your Yellowstone trip!

The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River is not as humongously large as the famed Grand Canyon in Arizona. Nevertheless it is a magnificent sight! Best viewed early in the morning (say before 10 am) or late in the day (say after 5 pm) to avoid the enormous crowds which are visiting Artist Point or the observation points on the North rim drive. The views from Artist Point are very good indeed.

My wife and I arrived just before 8am and found plenty of parking near a trail head marked artist point and took in the spectacular view. We then took the trail to Uncle Tom's point and back. The trail was about 1.75 miles with some moderate inclines. This was one of the definite highlights of our trip to Yellowstone. I am pretty fit for 50 and I felt the hike was enough of a challenge... the payoff of these majestic views were worth every huff and puff.

The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is absolutely not to be missed. The views from the overlooks on both the North Rim and South Rim are exquisite but I suggest going early to catch the morning sun. The late afternoon sun washed out and ruined my photos so I returned to Artist’s Point the next day at dawn to score some great shots and see deer and elk!

This is a site that you have to see. Even if you can't walk up or down the trails it is awe inspiring. There are many pull outs with tremendous views. We were there early in the season without a lot of other tourists and I think that made it better.

My wife and I spent most of the day exploring various trails in this area. It was a fairly cold day with snow flurries, so we didn't do as much hiking as we would have liked. But both the upper and lower falls are spectacular and the colors in the canyon are beautiful. You could easily spend a whole day or more in this area of the park. It is a must see.

Artist Point will give you such a view. You will see the changes of colors of ignaeous rock. Lower Falls has multiple levels--falls to the left and colorful canyon to the right. Upper Falls are wide and powerful.

Think of roads being a figure 8. One day explore lower part of figure and other day head for upper loop. Allow for some treks but be aware of bear spray needed some places. We squeezed in Bunsen Peak and it was tough but great
What will be the best way to enjoy both Yellow stone and the MT. Rushmore with over two weeks time...rent an RV, or a car?

We just came back from Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park in August. I find July and August are the best time to visit there. I would recommend traveling by car.

Hi!
What are everyone’s top recommendations for geysers and hot springs and pools for the loop road. We’ll have 3 days in Yellowstone during the last week of August (this month). Our base is the Old Faithful Inn.
Also, if anyone knows how the crowds are the last week of August...just curious. We arrive in Yellowstone on 8/25 and leave for Grand Teton NP on 8/28.

I’m late to answer, but ... spend a day hiking around old faithful. The geysers are mostly unpredictable. Hike to beauty pool. If your traveling to grand prismatic spring, hike to the overlook at ground level it is it impressive.

Hello!
My family and I will be in Yellowstone park at the end of this month. We will have 3 days. Aside from exploring the loop road a bit, I’m looking for some good hikes. Preferably not more than 5 miles and not too steep/strenuous. We are from New York and will be acclimating to the altitude the first couple of days. My 10 year old got a bit of altitude sickness when we hiked up to 8000 feet only one day after we arrived in New Mexico last year. So I’m looking for something well worth it while not having to attend to an ill feeling little boy.
Our base will be Old Faithful Inn.
Thank you!

we wanted to do Uncle Toms trail but it was closed. If you go to Old Faithful, you can walk around a lot to see many geysers. Morning Glory is awesome. As suggested take Angles fall train and see Grand Prismatic from View Point , you can have better view. I write my blog You can have a look. ravi1101.blogspot /2019/07/yellowstone-national-park-grand-teton, All the best Enjoy your Trip. You may add com after blogspot to get there.

We stopped at each view point and did an easy trail as far down as the trail would go. They are all short trails. Nothing like the Grand Canyon and the Angel Trail.

Wheelchair accessible??
Intlxpatr
Pensacola, FL1,722 contributions
Wheelchair accessible only somewhat. There are some smooth short paths to viewpoints. There are some views at some places directly from parking area. We saw families taking people in wheelchairs, and in strollers, on some paths we would not have thought it possible. Most hiking trails are NOT wheelchair accessible.
