Firehole Canyon Drive is a very scenic one way drive just south of Madison, with spectacular canyon walls, waterfalls, and a fun swimming area (fun to see even if you are not swimming!). Most drivers pass by this drive, continuing on the Loop Drive. But this is a great destination and not worth missing!

No RVs or campers allowed. Beautiful canyon views and it spits you out right back on the main loop. Some people were swimming in one area.

You can take this loop to see a nice waterfall and it gives you a break from the nose to tail loop road if it is busy. If you want to use the natural swimming area then I suggest you go early in the morning as once again parking is difficult and it is often very crowded.

Can be very congested at midday and afternoon taking away from the views. This was especially true near the swimming area. But we were still able to enjoy the views and she a cow elk

The Firehole Canyon Drive is short but may take you 45 minutes because of all the photos you will be taking the waterfalls, rapids and cliffs are beautiful. Near the end of the drive there is a very small pull off where you can take a trail to view another waterfall. Try to pull as far of the road as... More

This one way drive was pretty nice with a waterfall along the way. However, the star of this destination is the incredibly popular swimming access. Get there early because it gets packed.

If you are so inclined to swim in Yellowstone, this is one of two places I know of two swim. We visited later in the afternoon but the swimming area was still crowded. Water shoes are a great idea. The closer you get to hot spring, the warmer it will be.

This place is so beautiful! Bring your swimming suits and have a great time! I would recommend bringing water shoes and change into your swimwear in the car, the lines for the bathroom are really long!

This is one of the swimming areas inside the park, but I wouldn't swim there. It's just a short drive along a cliff, with one nice waterfall view. Not really a great thing to take time to see, if there is a lot of cars heading into the one way road.

So much fun!!!!! Do the drive just because it's pretty. If it's at all warm...low 70s when we were there, you have to put your bathing suit on and jump in. The water is actually warm, it's just cold when you get out. There are some small Rapids there if you walk around the corner. Jump in and they carry... More
