We were trying to avoid a bison jam on the road, and happened upon the Firehole Canyon Drive. Around each bend and curve, the views were absolutely beautiful! There is not much room to pull off and park along the road, but we were lucky that there were only a few cars travelling it with us that particular day! As... More

I had read about Firehole basin as one of the places swimming is allowed. The drive is breathtakingly beautiful. We arrived and there were lots of other people there and parking wound up around the hill. There are numerous signs upon entrance and around the basin that state cliff jumping is prohibited and violators may be fined. We arrived and... More

The Firehole Canyon Drive is a great drive through Yellowstone's fiery creation. As you wind through the canyon you will be with the river that rises and drops with several waterfalls. There was a former swimming area that you pass as well.

This is a pretty, short 2 mile drive that takes you to an area where warm water meets cold, so this is one of the few areas people are allowed to swim. Great thing to take the kids to, adults too!

I wanted to see what this loop was and it was great! So many pretty spots to take photos of water falls etc. There was a swimming hole for public use but it was so crowded no parking spaces left to check out. The drive is only 2 miles so don't miss it

I had researched into swimming in yellowstone prior to the trip and saw there are really only 3 areas that are allowed, here, the boiling river at gardiner river and lake yellowstone(not discouraged but warned about cold temps). The firehole drive is great, but a little congested. The swimming hole is spectacular and relatively safe, it is a river with... More

We saw a number of bears near the road here. One came within about 50 feet of us (pictured) and I was lucky to stop my daughters from running to the bear to pet it.

A great drive that most do not even know about. The 4 mile road is one way with a great view of the cascading falls, the canyon and the surrounding mountains.

we weren't sure if we were at the right place. the canyon drive is one way and you have to go almost to the end to get to the swimming area. we didn't realize that it would be so busy. we went at about 3:30pm and ended up swimming for a couple of hours. we had so much fun that... More

It was a beautiful drive. We first did it after finishing Old Faithful and the Lower and Mid Geyser Basins. We enjoyed the amazing scenery, and at the end saw where everyone was swimming. We didn't have our stuff to swim, so we made sure to end our day there the next day to let the kids swim and relax... More
