This was a unique experience...and we were so glad we did it. Parking was more challenging than I imagined, but we walked down the path to the river (which was longer than my 12 & 14 year-olds wanted), but once we got there, we really...More

It is about a 10 minute walk from the parking lot to the entrance. The river is cold, but the boiling river empties in on the left. There are multiple shallow areas to sit close to the left The water temperature is constantly changing. It...More

Very good experience. The river was packed the August weekend we visited there but it was still fun. I recommend starting at the furthest place up river where the hot river flows into the cold river and float / make you way down river. The...More

This is a must do while in Yellowstone, and you can do it with even a four-year-old! You can go down the river and pick the heat and flow of the water that you would like! Just enjoy a lazy time in the river, but...More

I was informed the Boiling River area is very crowded. Well, we decided to go 1.5 hours prior to sunset since it was a very warm day, thinking that it would be less crowded and cooler in the evening. And our bet paid off as...More

Let's make a deal! Don't tell anyone about this amazing place, there are enough people there already. Right on the river, where the hot spring water, a river itself, flows into the cold water of the Yellowstone, you have to be a bit careful where...More

It is a beautiful place and a nice walk to get there, but it was neither deep enough nor hot enough for my taste. I like to be immersed to stay warm. Since the 2 lots get very packed, we arrived at the crack of...More

It's just a quarter mile walk from the parking lot. It was so awesome getting in the crystal clear water and having the freezing and hot mix. I don't think many people know about it so it wasn't very crowded. Get there early in the...More

What an experience to sit in the water where one side of your body is in hot water and the other is in cold water! Water is shallow enough for small children to enjoy! Highly recommend !

Amazingly hot in places.. We visited on a whim and were surprised by how nice it was. Clear water and great scenery. About a 10 minute walk from the busy parking area but well worth it. My tip would be to talk water shoes.. The...More

Dear NEOhioCheryl, The river is not rocky in the warm part. I don't think he will have trouble. Just be careful when entering the river- find a pre-established route that is not too steep.

Just check with the rangers at the visitor center in Mammoth Hot springs. It is only a few miles from there.
