Beautiful water feature- worth the hike !
Its truly worth the hike to get to this location. We had small kids join us and its best to be prepared with walking shoes, and a lot of water and snacks. Enjoy the falls before making your way back again.

    Gorgeous falls!
It’s about 5 miles round trip to the falls and back. It starts as a boardwalk but turns into a dirt trail, so wear appropriate shoes and have water. The trail takes you through beautiful lodge pile pine forest and you end at a creek and the falls - 200 feet high! From the falls you can turn around and hike back. Take the offshoot of the trail to hike up to the Grand Prismatic overlook it is the very best view of Grand Prismatic. A gorgeous hike overall

So glad I did the hike to these falls!
This is a 5 mile hike 2.5 miles each way. It’s an easy hike on gravel. The falls are magnificent! We went early in the day so we had the gals area to ourselves. We did the extra hike up to prismatic but it was too foggy to see anything. Started to get crowded as we walked back. It’s absolutely stunning. Would recommend.

We were there during the quarantine and parking was a bit crowded, so I imagine it's much rougher during a regular season. The hike was a nice mostly level walk along an old closed road, then through trees along a cinder path. You end at the base of the falls where there is a small pool. The falls is tall and wispy, more like Yosemite than Yellowstone, but it was quite beautiful in May and the pool at the bottom was a nice change from the usual cascades around the base of most falls in Yellowstone.

The falls themselves are beautiful and worth a visit. But the hike itself is a bit monotonous through a featureless forest of pines. My 13 and 11 year olds were getting bored/antsy by the end. The hike is super manageable with very little elevation gain. There was lots of foot traffic. Throw in the spur to the Grand Prismatic overlook to enjoy beautiful views. Just prepare to sharpen your elbows as the overlook platform was really crowded during our sunny mid day trip in June.

Our favorite hike in the OF area, not because of the falls (not much water, fairy-like, I assume) but it has falls, geyser, wildflower meadows and forest--just a really pretty area. You’ll have to be there close to 6am to have solitude. It’s was already busy by 7:30am and if Grand Prismatic overlook is your priority, it’s definitely best to do it with the sun overhead because the rising sun is behind it in the morning so you don't see as many colors (this is by far a better view so I would skip Midway Geyser Basin altogether since you can't really see the spring well at ground level). Saw bear, deer and possibly elk prints but no sightings.

We stopped at the Fairy Falls trailhead for the mile hike to the Grand Prismatic Spring Overlook. It was so worth it! It was a bit too COVID-19 crowded but we wore our masks and waited our turn at the top.

We didn’t make it to Fairy Falls. It was hot and we wimped out when we learned it was another 1.5 miles to the falls but the overlook view of GPS was breathtaking!

Boy, you need bug spray as the mosquitos are vicious. I was attacked by a squadron of mosquitos. The hike itself is easy. Bring something noisy so you do not surprise a bear. Having beasr spray is a plus. There are no pit toilets.

I appear to be in the minority, but my group all found this hike to be fairly mundane. We first hiked to the GPS Overlook (this view was worthwhile) and then continued along the trail to the falls. The falls themselves are nice, but the view along the way never changes and isn’t particularly interesting. The only thing that improved our afternoon was that we continued to Imperial Geyser- that was very special. The geyser erupts almost continually and we were the only people there the entire time. We sat and enjoyed our private showing for some time.

Nice hike mostly level so the 5.2 mile round trip isn’t hard. Definitely take the side hike early on which is on the left for a great view of the Grand Prismatic Spring. The hike to Fairy Falls goes through a forest that was ravaged by the 1988 fire that burned 36% of Yellowstone. Fairy Falls is almost a 200 foot drop and it was beautiful. Went early in the morning so we had the falls to ourselves for about 15 minutes. It’s a nice place for snack or lunch.

After walking up to see the grand prismatic overlook you can continue on the trail to the fairy falls which is about a 5 mile hike. The walk is mostly flat even trail through the forest with not much to see. Once you get to the waterfall there wasn’t the amount of water falling that I was expecting. We were there in mid October 2022 so the spring rain and snow melt was done however it’s an interesting waterfall to see. If you have the time and want to go for a leisurely walk it’s a great place to walk out to the falls.
