A beautiful, fascinating place. The ages have been at work on this place and it almost defies description. I can only imagine what the first explorers thought when they first laid eyes on these hissing, steaming, smelly wonders. The views are incredible and should not...More

Have visited this area many times over the yrs and thought the water flow had been decreasing and hence formations not as colorful, active, or dramatic but this time found the area to be incredibly beautiful and hiked most of the trails available.

Mammoth Hot Springs area in Yellowstone is like being on another planet. it's SO different from anything I've normally seen back at home. I could spend a life time there and never get tired of seeing it.

We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the hot springs .... Not what we expected but they are amazing. There are lots of boardwalks to allow you to get up close and the upper terrace road gives and awesome view of the entire area.

Love Yellowstone! Not much is open in mid April...and no crowds. We were just passing through and just quickly stopped at Mammoth Hot Springs. Loved it!

Since Mammoth is on the upper driving loop of the park, people tend to put it at the end of their list and then run out of time before they make it up there. I bring groups to Yellowstone National Park almost every year and...More

Having visited Yellowstone in early April, most of the park is closed. The Hot Springs are really the only site to see if you're passing through like I was. They are a sight to see though! Definitely larger than I thought they would be. I...More

We will be at Old Faithful Lodge the last full week of May. Will the roads be opened from there to Mammoth at that time?

What's the best way to explore the Mammoth Hot Springs? Do I just park at the hotel and walk in from there? Or will there be road side parking areas that I'll need to go to access sights?

Depending on how busy it is when you go, I'd recommend the parking areas that are road-side right next to the springs. There are separate parking areas near the upper & lower sections. If it's really busy when you go, you... More
