We have had Wine Slushies from Montezuma at the State Fair, and enjoyed them. On a nice summer Monday we stopped here for a tasting.
The people were VERY nice. It just wasn't "our type" of tasting. I believe that the new tasting rules are due to COVID restrictions. It would be fine for a weekend, but during the week I wish they had returned to "regular" tastings. We had to choose from 6 wine flights, and could't mix and match. Thus, by default of not particularly liking sweet wines we ended up with the Dry White Flight. The wines were only OK.
For $12 patrons are given a bag containing 5 (one ounce, small )tastings, popcorn, small piece of fudge, bottle of water, oyster crackers, and tortilla chips. It also contained a beautiful Montezuma Wine glass. The glass was beautiful...but we have so many wine glasses...We also got a $3 coupon to spend in the gift shop. We did buy some gifts, as the gift shop is very nice, but we did not buy any wine.
I guess I missed the chatting with the person as they describe the wines. I missed being able to try both white and red, as well as dry and sweet. We always share a tasting....this was more logical to do individual tastings. At that price it would have been $24 for 2 to taste. The 1 ounce sample is smaller than we usually have at a tasting.
We are glad Montezuma has been able to remain open. The times are tough for everyone. The location is beautiful, and hopefully traditional tasting will be able to return soon!

We went to many wineries on the Cayuga Wine Trail and this place was definitely one of the better ones. It was $12 for a flight of 5 wines that were already predetermined what wines are in the flight. the hostess notes which flight you want and lets you wander around the store until your samples are ready. in 5 minutes she called us back and had us collect little baggies and walked us to the very back of the winery and lead us to a whole other garage (supposed to be for more production BUT Covid made them change it in to an indoor heated place for wine tastings).
We opened our bags and found fudge, popcorn, tortilla chips, cheeky monkey salsa, crackers, glasses to take home, bottle of water, napkins and of course our 5 samples numbered so you could follow with the flight you chose. It was way more than any other place included in tastings. We ended up with 2 wines to bring home with us.

Cassidy was our server and did a great job. We both had a sample which is a choice of six from their offerings. A nice breakdown of sweet or dry reds, whites and more. We slowly picked our six each and made our way through. Cassidy suggested we circle the ones we liked so as to not forget them and consider our purchases. After our tasting we did leave with six bottles. We visited mid afternoon, early in the week, so it was quiet, comfortable and there were not too many customers at the bar. If you can plan your time to visit when there are less people I am certain it makes the experience that much more enjoyable. There were tables with seating outside if you wanted to enjoy something onsite. Ample parking in their lot. An enjoyable experience.

Montezuma was a great place to start when visiting Cayuga. There was only on group of four there when we were, so kind of quiet. When you first walk in you don’t know where to look first since the gift shop has so much to offer. The tastings were a little steep at $12 each but did offer five (small) samples in little plastic cups and a mulled spice type wine to try. The tasting kit had a bottle of water, crackers, tortilla chips to go with cheeky monkey, a souvenir glass, and a small piece of chocolate fudge. The wines were not the best I’ve had but the experience and the gift shop were worth it. I’d like to try it again when Covid doesn’t put a damper on things.

We enjoyed our visit to Montazuma Winery. Danielle assisted us with our wine tasting. She was very nice and knowledgeable about the wines. Tastings were $12 for 6 selections and included a souvenir wine glass or $10 if you don’t want the glass. They give you a $2 coupon good towards purchase of a bottle.

This place has SO many great wines. Only negative was that the staff seemed overwhelmed with an event coming and when we ordered our tastings we felt like we were bothering them. We spent a massive amount of money there though bc of all the tasty wines and we would def go again. Great slushees!!

We took a one day tour of vineyards in the Finger Lakes and our guide started the day by stopping here. Skip this place entirely - its a tourist trap. You get a souvenir bag with popcorn, fudge and glasses with the vineyard's logo but the wine is terrible. They serve the wine in tiny plastic cups, like you would put ketchup in at a fast food place. Very wasteful and not environmentally friendly. Also the service was slow and unfriendly. Luckily we found many other good vineyards after this bad start to the day. Drive past this one and go straight to the better vineyards.

There was a fabulous selection of wines and spirits. Jon conducted our tasting and he was very knowledgeable and passionate about the wines. He gave us some great recommendations and was just a top notch person. We will definitely be visiting again the next time we are in the area.

I do not like to write negative reviews, but this was not a good experience. I know everyone has to be safe due to Covid, but they have gone too far, and not a good place to go at least as of this time. If you want to do a tasting of either their wine or distilled products, it has to be to go. And what this means is they pour your samples into tiny little plastic cups with lids and put them in a bag also containing a snack, bottle of water, and piece of fudge. Well, the beverage samples are very small, and both my wife and I had leaks by the time we got to them. This was our first stop on a long weekend and all other wineries and breweries we visited were making it work, while also being safe, and none were doing anything like this....Skip it many other places to go.

We got to sample several different wines, all of which were wonderful. Our server, Angela, was very knowledgeable once we let her know what we were looking for, and made some great suggestions. We ended up buying 7 bottles of wine, and will be back to buy more the next time we are in the area. Overall, the experience was a great stop on our travels, and we definitely recommend this winery.

What types of wines do you have? Do you carry sweet wines?

I have previously worked at Montezuma Winery. Not only a great place to work, but I always bring my friends and family to taste their wines. The list of wines contains sweet and dry wines, even though the emphasis is heavily on sweet fruity wines.Examples include the Diamond which is made of mostly sweet concord grapes, cranberry bog which is 100 percent all cranberry, and our famous Fat Frogs. The Fat Frogs include the Fat Frog Red (all sweet concord grapes), Fat Frog White (all Niagara grapes), and the Fat Frog Blush (all Catawaba grapes). Stop on by. There is a really nice gift shop.
