I thought the murals might be overrated because of some examples I’ve seen before. It’s a nice idea but not always well executed. Not this time, though! These are very well done, with a wide variety of scenes, and there is information to explain each one. There are other attractions, good restaurants, and easy parking in this area too.

The murals themselves 5 stars, the area 3 stars. We were visiting the downtown area and decided to walk to the murals. A bit of a walk down several flights of stairs but winds you down around parking garage etc. If we had walked more north from downtown area there was a city park you could follow the sidewalks around. Once you get in front of the murals it just did not seem very safe feeling. So I quickly walked thru took pictures of the murals of interest and the plaque's and decided to view them in more detail from my computer.
They are fascinating and worth a visit, maybe drive down and park on the street in front of the park maybe more comforting.

We stopped by on Sunday (10-23-22) and it was a great day. Taking pictures and learning the history of Vicksburg through the murals was a beautiful experience. The artwork is very detailed and I was very impressed on how they have stood up to the weather. Right on the river and we watched some barges moving around on the river too!

The flood wall which was put in after early 2000's floods now has art work from local artists on it. The murals depict various historical events from Vicksburg. Very nice art work and makes riverfront scenic. The downtown/riverfront area could use a face lift but this certainly is a start.

A worthwhile stop to see these paintings that are on the downtown flood wall. Each mural tells a story about the history of Vicksburg. It is worth reading the plaque that goes with each mural. There is plenty of free parking so it is easy to get out and take the short walk along the murals. On the other side of the flood wall is the Mississippi River and a colorful welcome to Vicksburg sign ( a nice place for photos). There is also a flood guage. And you can often see barges on the river.

We came here just before Sunset to check out the murals. the murals are very well done and tell an interesting piece of story. they do make you feel alive when you're looking at them, like during that time frame in history.
But they are in a sketchy area, and I wouldn't be hanging out here after Dark. also, some of the lights were out, and there was a dead cat rotting away on the sidewalk, so it didn't seem like anyone's really taking care of the immediate area.
this is really close to the water, so behind the wall where the murals are, you can walk down to look at the river and see the barges going by.

Nice murals presenting the history of the town. Murals are located on a Levee Street. R
obert Dafford created 32 murals and there is an abstract mural by Vicksburg artist Martha Ferris.

Pretty cool place to see. Depicts the history of Vicksburg in storyboard style on the flood wall panels. Easily accessible both at night and during the day. We went through the wall and there was an interesting depth chart painted on the other side. Worth checking that out too.

The elegant paintings on the town-side of Vicksburg’s flood wall are an expressive telling of town history. Take a stroll along the wall and pick your favorites. Walk past the wall to the river to see a riverboat. Walk over to the historic old depot to see its pretty architecture; if the museum is open, consider a look inside. This was a nice stop for us after spending the day at the national military park.

We are towing a camper. Would be a place to park so we can get out and walk the riverfront?
Written April 26, 2021
It is a big lot but I guess it depends on the size of your camper and how many people are there. Also I dont know what the city allows.

IF are driving into Vicksburg on I20E, what exit do you take to get to the murals?
Written April 20, 2017
Get off at the first exit after crossing the Mississippi River. Downtown is well worth taking the time to visit.
