The H.C. Porter is located in downtown Vicksburg near shops and museums. Inside you'll find Porter's unique mixed media originals. Her work is excellent quality and worth a look. Check out her website: http://www.hcporter.com/art/

Originally from Jackson, Mississippi, H.C. Porter now resides in Vicksburg and owns the H.C. Porter Gallery at 1216 Washington Street. In fact, she lives in a loft upstairs. Described as a social realist and visual artist with an emphasis on painting and photography, the 56-year-old master printmaker sells and displays mixed media originals, fine art photography, serigraphs, giclees, reproductions, posters, fine art books and merchandise. Porter says there are three elements to her work--painting, printmaking and photograph. "And what emerges is the relationship," she says. On display in her gallery are and her website are acrylic paintings created over black silkscreen prints from her original photographs, such as works on noted musicians B.B. King, Terry "Harmonica" Bean, T-Model Ford, Cadillac John and Mickey Rogers. In a recent project, Porter collaborated with the Vicksburg National Military Park to create a history Civil War painting. Another popular project was "Blues at Home: Mississippi's Living Blues Legends," featuring 31 of Mississippi's living blues musicians. She also painted "Backyards and Beyond: Mississippians and Their Stories," which documented the first year after Hurricane Katrina struck the Mississippi Gulf Coast. A trip to the H.C. Porter Gallery is an enjoyable journey into an art form that you don't often experience.

What a delight. Had no clue what we were walking into... in terms of artistic talent and personal charm in upstairs loft where we stayed for the weekend. Absolutely amazing. We will return and insist our friends and family join! Cheer to you, HC Porter.

The gallery is formal, the staff are attentive and the artwork is delightful. I loved seeing the stripped back paintings from original photos. She really does capture so much life in the south.

Became familiar with this artist's work through a family member years ago, and have watched her career development with great sppreciation. Really enjoyed the series of snowman photos . . . illustrated both how creative people can be and how much Southerners enjoy a good snow! This is a good place to see what contemporary Mississippi artists are working on . . .very glad we took the time to stop in!

HC Porter's gallery adds some needed eccentric charm to downtown Vicksburg. Her photography is beautiful and the artistic elements she adds to make her prints are truly unique. I love stopping in her shop any time I'm in the downtown area.

This gallery is worth browsing. H. C. Porter is a distinctive artist and with all art it depends on the eye of the person viewing. Her pictures, both originals and limited edition prints are all for sale and they will ship anywhere in the world. The young lady who was looking after the Gallery was a mine of useful information and exceedingly helpful.

Sadly we didn't make it to downtown Vicksburg in time to go into the gallery. We have one of her Jazz paintings in our home that we bought at an art show in Reston, Virginia years ago. Looking through the window we saw more lovely paintings. She's a talented artist and her gallery is worth a look - if you make it downtown in time unlike me.

We stayed in the loft, and was surrounded by wonderful ART WORK. This is a real treat for the art lover and for couples. This is not for kids. You are very close to everything. The hostess is very helpful and knows the town well. Dinning is just outside the door and live music. There is a landing one can sit and look over the river, with a clear view. The Loft is very clean and neat, with all types of hand made art. Full Kitchen with everything ready to cook or make. It pored rain very hard and could not hear it, a very sound building. First floor is the Gallery full of H.C. Porter art work, there is something for everyone to see and enjoy. Packed with Blue's area. Photos, crafts and Art.

Nice contemporary mixed media art gallery. Art pieces are gorgeous! Staff member working there was very nice and helpful regarding the artwork and things to do locally. Too pricey for me. I couldn't afford anything. Still enjoyable to look around.
