I did this adventure on 7th October 2022 am. So sorry it has taken me so long to write a review. My pilot was Oliver and he was friendly, professional and explained everything. I was on my own, travelling as a lone female and therefore was lucky enough to sit in the front. My trip was a 60 minute trip and whilst expensive was worth every penny in my opinion.
I have never done anything like this before and was super scared. However Oliver and the team were reassuring and calming.
This is by far the best way to see Honolulu/Hawaii. This was a childhood dream for me and I still can’t believe I did it. The views are spectacular. Diamond head is amazing from the sky as are all the landmarks including Pearl Harbour.
If you can afford this….do not hesitate in booking with this company. They are professional and communicate pre flight really well. Enjoy!

What an amazing adventure we had this morning at Rainbow's. Staff was friendly and our pilot Turner as well. He is very communicative, giving us interesting info.
We were lucky with the weather. First 20 mn along the beautiful eastern coast in sunshine, than clouds coming up from above the mountains. Nearly no wind. Just near Kailua we had to turn around to prevent being in the rain (doors off:-)
Highly recommended!!

Finding the location was a breeze and the parking was a great bonus. We were greeted right away and checked in and weighed. Went through the whole safety video and they put our preservers and phone lanyards on. Then it was on the runway and meeting the pilot. Everyone was super friendly and easy going. We had reservations for the fireworks special but we weren’t able to go through with it so we were offered more time and a different time slot. I honestly think this was the best part of our trip we have talked about it everyday since. So happy i got to experience the ride. Would do it 10x over if i could.

My wife and I were looking forward to the experience & take in the sights of Hawaii on our honeymoon. About 25mins from Waikiki by taxi. We had an easy checked in - re confirmed “doors off” as recommended at the check in again, relaxed brief done and waited for our tour.

Our slot was ready and out to the choppers in a golf kart we went passing all the nice private jets and other airlines. Boarding the “Robinson” chopper (Doors Off Option) was easy enough and had a quick discussion with the pilot. I was sitting behind the pilot (right side), my wife on the left and a elderly lady in the front left seat. The pilot said we may experience a little “chop/wind” today. The wind was about 25-30mph in the weather report.

As we took off we headed counter clockwise around the island and once we got to altitude it all went to sh*t.

I have skydived multiple times and that’s the only other time I have felt such face bending wind force in my life. The wind force was so strong I was bracing with my left leg, right arm and having to push my back into the seat while holding the head set on with my sunglasses.

Even as I was getting the brunt of it my wife was also seriously struggling (we are both fit and 40yrs old). Stick your head out the window of your car at +50mph and consider that bashing the whole right side of your body for 40 minutes.

Meanwhile the lady in the front seat was having a grand old time as the “wind tunnel” effect was only hitting us.

So I could not look out my right side (at all) until we turned towards Pearl Harbour 2/3 of the trip due to the wind, my wife was bracing with her arm on one of the handles so my view for most of the trip was poor. Moreover right side gets ocean for 70% of the trip while the left side gets the landscapes, mountains, rocks and so on.

By the time we landed we were happy it was over. I have put myself through many uncomfortable travel experiences in my life (by choice) but this could have been easily avoided. The pilot was nice & informative, landscape is amazing but hard to enjoy when you are in a cyclone.

Feedback: If the wind is at a high level simply tell people that both doors off is not possible. Tell people it will be impossibly uncomfortable if they insist. I wish I read the other reviews before we took off today as others have had the same experience.

We would of loved it but to be honest it was just shockingly bad due to the lack of guidance by the staff to avoid both doors off in today’s conditions.

It is always amazing to get a bird’s-eye view of the places that you visit.  I  have previously enjoyed helicopter rides over the Grand Canyon and The Great Barrier Reef so I decided to take  a 30 mins ride over Oahu, Hawaii with Rainbow Helicopters. Rainbow Helicopters did a wonderful job of preparing us for a safe flight.  They provided all of the instructions that were needed.  Once it was time for us to board the flight we were taken over on a golf cart for boarding.  It was a swift and easy process.  Fortunately, I was in the front seat so the views from above were amazing.  It was amazing to see Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head, The Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Hanauma Bay, The USS Arizona & The USS Missouri from the air.  I truly enjoyed seeing Pearl Harbor the most because even though I had visited in person I have never seen it from the air. Simply Amazing!  Mahalo Rainbow Helicopters for a wonderful journey of Oahu, Hawaii from the sky!!

I've been on Merry Go Round rides that were more adventurous than what was provided. The pilot was not engaging, informative nor interested in the guests. Post cards are a better buy. The video was a joke, did not purchase it. The on ground staff were very polite and the office space was clean. So, half a day of an experience vacation was wasted. Total Regret.

Awesome is an understatement! Amazing views of all the sights we had seen while on the island. Beautiful view of the various shades of blue waters, corals, and whales! Waterfalls you can’t hike to. Movie set areas. Just amazing. It’s a splurge, but so worth it!

My review of Rainbow Helicopter 60 minute tour is a mixed bag. My husband and I went on the tour July 28th. The staff/pilot were friendly and the facilities were clean. The views were beautiful and I recommend the taking a helicopter ride in Oahu for that alone. However, there were two unfortunate issues that I must mention as I hope to be of help to others traveling.

My husband wanted doors on and that is how we made our reservation. What was unclear until boarding, is that there are two sets of doors and we ended up in the front with the pilot (doors on) and the back seats in the helicopter had doors off. This freaked my husband out a little (not a thrill seeker) but he managed okay and just didn't look behind him. I asked when we checked in to confirm doors on and this was not explained whatsoever which was deceiving IMO.

The absolute worst part was we both had to be crammed in like sardines in the front row with the pilot. There was not enough space for both of us so it was VERY uncomfortable. We are average sized adults. I noticed the trip after ours had one adult and one young child seated in the front where we had been seated which is probably fine, but there is not enough space for two adults in the front seat next to the pilot. They told us the seating arrangement on arrival; however, there was no way to know that the seating was inadequate until minutes before take off when we were strapped in the helicopter. I spent the entire flight leaning to my left as I tried not to hit the pilot as a result of the way I was squished in. My back hurt for awhile afterward from the awkward position. It was very unpleasant. As a result, I wouldn't use this company again. We went on a separate helicopter ride in Maui (Blue Hawaiian) where we were both seated in the front with the pilot and there was plenty of space plus the ride was smoother. I wish we'd used them in Oahu as well.

Cat.
Cat was amazing! I was absolutely terrified and my husband had an absolutely amazing time and Cat handled both extremes beautifully. She was funny and informative and kept us 100% alive, which I appreciated.
We went with the doors off, and it was the right choice for us. Terrifying but also incredibly exciting...I couldn’t think of any way to make the experience better. It’s very pricey, but also...we lived, so...
We reserved our tour online. We had clear instructions as to where to go, where to park and where to check in. They did a good job with signs and we never felt like we were just wandering around trying to figure things out.
After check in, we were led to a small room where we had a safety briefing and were fitted with emergency life belts (very nerve wracking) and were instructed to leave everything except for glasses, jackets, and phones in a desk drawer. (Apparently, things could accidentally fall out of pockets into the tail rotors....more things for my nightmares). We were given neck holders for our phones, then we went to a larger waiting area until our pilot was ready for us.
We were taken by golf cart to the helicopter loading area (the golf cart ride was almost as fast as the helicopter, but I liked that part!).
Our golf cart driver got us to the loading zone just as our pilot was touching down and we saw the previous party depart (they also lived, so that was reassuring). We were able to have our photos taken in front of our helicopter (our helpful golf cart driver took them with my phone) and then we popped into our ride. The earphones were snug (painfully) and it was a little difficult to understand everything that was said. I clearly understood when Cat said not to grab her arm, so I didn’t do that anymore. She redirected me to grab the window edge or my seat if I was feeling particularly terror filled, so that was helpful. Luckily, my husband was seated behind me and was able to take pictures out of our doorless helicopter (I was busy not grabbing Cat’s arm).
Cat narrated the ride and pointed out helpful landmarks and I tried to smile with my eyes and nod knowingly (because I kept forgetting to push the “talk” button on the microphone).
Our tour was supposed to be 60 minutes (i think) but we were done and back in about 40-45 minutes. For me, that was perfect...but some people might fuss about that.
Overall, this was a bucket list thing for my husband. He loved it and I’m glad I got to share it with him. Our pilot did a great job making me feel less terrified and also answered all of his “what’s that over there?” questions.
Five stars, because...we lived.

Our doors off helicopter ride was picture perfect! Our pilot made us feel comfortable and was an excellent tour guide. The facility was up to date with Covid precautions. During our trip we circled around much of Oahu. We saw Diamond Head, the scene of Jurassic Park, water falls, the dense mountain forests, Pearl Harbor, and many more land marks. We did splurge for the video and took millions of pictures. The pictures do not do the island justice. I highly recommend booking this excursion!
