About
In the Hawaiian language, Kepoikai means "crest of the wave." Kepoikai II has been sailing the waters of Waikiki for 30 years, when it was designed and built by the late catamaran sailor and boat builder, Captain Don Lipton. Kepoikai II offers one hour sails from the white sandy beaches of Waikiki Beach with breathtaking views of Diamond Head and the Waikiki shore.

The Kepoikai II catamaran sunset sail was absolutely gorgeous and beyond enjoyable. I went with my boyfriend, and the view from the boat of Waikiki and the coastline was beautiful. Made for some great sunset photos! The $4 drinks and welcoming atmosphere made this sail a must if you are staying in Waikiki. The crew (Biggie and Dan) were personable and made sure everyone was taken care of the entire time we were on the catamaran. I highly recommend taking the time to truly enjoy the view of the amazing Waikiki while having a nice cocktail and some wonderful company. I would give it 6 stars if I could!

We want to try a new experience in HNL. After checking out the four catamaran vendors online with departure from Waikiki Beach, we choose Kepoikai for our sailing.

Our sailing time was 10:30am Friday morning. The adventure began as soon as we were wading through the sandy water, climbing the ladder as the waves of water bobbled up and down, and boarding the twin hull catamaran Kepoikai.

We sat on the front bench with bird’s view of the wave action on the folks sitting or laying on the netting between the hulls. Some folks laid stretch out to soak up the sun while other with a good tan laid face down to see how close the waves come up to the net.

It was smooth sailing to Diamond Head viewing and back to Waikiki with a spectacular view of Waikiki Beach with the city skyline and further back the lush green mountain under the blue skies backdrop. The ride was perfect with the light Hawaiian music played on board.

We were able to bring our own drinks and food.

The trip was filled with WIND & WATER, SUN & FUN … on the Kepoikai II on Waikiki Beach.

TIP:
Save the 6% online fee by booking by walking up for early morning weekday sailings. There are usually plenty of spaces in the morning. If you are a large group you will save money on the fees.

We as a group of 9 (adults and teens) had a great 1.5 hour cruise at Sunset just off Waikiki beach to Diamond Head and return. We picked up the catamaran from the beach just down from our Hotel (Moana Surfrider) around 5pm and enjoyed a relaxing cruise through until sunset and returned back to the beach around 6:30pm. The staff were friendly and fun and made us feel welcome and safe with also the availability of drinks on board if you wished. It was easy to book online and the rates were very reasonable. We had a really enjoyable time. Thank you to all on the Kepoikai II.

Sailing with the Kepoikai team was an awesome experience for the sunset! We had the pleasure of speaking with the crew member who pointed out some awesome things about the island as we went out to sea and gave us a little personal history, too. The captain did a great job taking us out to sea through the surf and during the sunset he expertly backed the boat towards the shore to give everyone the best view. You can bring your own drinks or they have some available for purchase. I highly recommend this sunset sail the next time you visit!

Enjoyed a terrific sunset cruise during Christmas week. The crew was super friendly and outgoing and made us all feel very comfortable. Our only complaint was the directions on how to find the catamaran. The website and printed confirmation both state "The beach in front of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel." With this in mind, we parked near the Royal Hawaiian and made our way thru the hotel to the beach only to discover that the boat was actually parked down the beach past the Outrigger. We should have parked there and made our way outside of Duke's. Normally this wouldn't have been an issue, but we were bringing our 86 year old grandmother who depends on a wheelchair. It would have been so easy for us to wheel her to the stairs by Duke's restaurant and assist her with the short walk to the boat, but we ended up having to carry her wheelchair over long stretches of sand and practically drag her along the beach to reach the boat. Having tired us all out with the trek, then having to assist her up the steps of the boat in the rolling surf, really wiped her out. Simply having a more accurate description of where the boat was tied up would have avoided all the drama.

we sat in the front in the nets expecting it to be a normal, calm ride and started talking to the people next to us. We were a little shocked to hear they do this exact ride 2-3 times a trip when they visit Hawaii. We realized why in the first 5 mins! It is SO FUN! Like a little roller coaster if you are sitting in the nets, but beware you get soaked. I was not expecting to have that much fun but this quickly became one of our favorite things we did, and only for $30! we are 100% doing this again!

Wonderful way to see sunset in Honolulu. Other boats cost twice as much, include food and cheap drinks. I don’t need that. We just wanted to be on the water and enjoy sunset. Captain and one deckhand, made it super enjoyable offering to take pics for us, advised best place to sit to keep us dry, where to take selfies, etc. Spectacular views and well worth the money. One piece of advice. Tip these guys well. $10 per person is normal. Don’t be cheap!

We enjoyed a wonderful sunset sail on Kepoikai II. The captain and crew were great, the catamaran had plenty of space and it was easily the best value in Oahu. You can bring your own drinks/snacks or they offer drinks for a reasonable price ($2 soda/water, $beer, $6 Mai Tai). It is described as a one hour sail but they stay out until after sunset, so it was nearly 90 min. We couldn't have chosen a better way to close out our stay in Oahu.

Wonderful sunset catamaran cruise! Our family loves to sail with the Kepoikai every trip to Waikiki. Beautiful scenery, great sailing, nice size boat, fun and helpful crew. Depending on where you sit you can get splashed or stay dry. BYOB or purchase drinks on the boat. The lower price than many cruises also allows us to sail more often.

We took the sunset cruise with our two teen boys after remembering it as a highlight when we visited as a couple 10 years ago. Laidback, affordable, and a fun experience, especially for our son to sit in the nets out front with his go pro. The captain took his time ensuring all sides of the boat got a great view of the beautiful sunset. Drinks were well priced, and the crew was happy and friendly. Don’t hesitate to book with Kepoikai II. We’ll do it again a third time if we are fortunate enough to visit Waikiki again.
