We felt safe in the Park, with all the other people picnicing and walking to view the fireworks. The area was lit up enough for us. We found our way to view from the Ala Moana Park the Hilton Friday Night Fireworks. The park is situated across the road from the Ala Moana Shopping Centre where we had dinner before seeing the fireworks. Then after the Fireworks we were able to cross the road to go back to the Ala Moana Hotel where we were staying.

Once nothing but a bog, the Ala Moana Park has developed into an attraction coveted by locals and tourists alike. Like any attraction in the Honolulu area, it is best to get there early to secure a free parking space. The park is a favorite spot to swim, picnic, and relax. Bathroom and concession areas are available. The beach at the park is man-made by the Dillingham Dredging Company who needed a place to deposit its sand. Great place for all ages.

Our hotel was right beside this beach. We enjoyed jogging and riding bikes in the morning along this beach. We watched the locals surf and we loved it not being over crowded by tourist. There is also a logoon that was nice and clean and again was occupied mainly by locals.

This is a beautiful beach that gives you the perfect relaxing beach day. Ala Moana is less crowded than most of the other beaches in the area, the water is calm and clear, the sand is soft, and the beach itself is nice and clean. I would definitely recommend this beach if you are staying in the area and want a nice relaxing day.

Although not totally "back to nature" at this park, we do enjoy the setting and the friendliness of those that come to hang out at the park..
We enjoy the time here with some of the areas that provide some escape into shade.. cant be in the sun all the time!
We will return to enjoy some time at this park on the west end of Waikiki..

We have visited Waikiki three times but this was the first time we went to this park. Don't miss this park. Next time we will go to this park instead of Waikiki beach. There are benches to sit on, grass or beach to lay on. There are way less people that Waikiki beach, and it's a beautiful location with a great view of Diamond Head. This park would be great for small kids to swim at as it is calmer.

There are a lot of japanese honeymooners taking photos. The limousines bring from waikiki, and park on the diamond head side of magic island. There is a park and the beach. At the park, locals go for a walk or jog. At the beach, the water is calm because of the seawall, and you can see swimmers and stand-up paddle boarders, also beach goers in the sand.

My wife and I visit this beach park a couple of times each holiday. We walk from out condo up near the zoo, and it takes us about 45 minutes to get there. We take a change of clothes so after the swim we walk across to the Shopping Centre and have lunch, the get the $2 trolley back to our place.
Always relaxing and never busy, mainly locals. Usually see a couple of turtles as well which is nice.
Great spot to have a picnic too.

Ala Moana Beach Park is a playground that just about offers something for everyone. Ala Moana offers acres of shady trees, picnic tables, and a wide expanse of grass to play around, tennis courts, yacht club and concession stands. Ala Moana Beach has a true urban beach feel that is beautiful, clean, and is a favorite among both locals and visitors. It is centrally located and accommodate large gatherings.

If you want a quiet day to yourself, this is the place to be. Only the locals frequent the Ala Moana Beach Park. You'll know them as most are either jogging or on their rollerblades. The beach itself will probably be empty as most people are down at Waikiki. This place is directly across from the mall so, if shopping is the priority, certainly, there's no time for standing and staring at sand. Honestly, I've never seen more than 15 people on this beach. No joke.

Is the water clear? Is the sand soft or dirty? Is this beach crowded with tourists?

The water is clear at the shoreline but becomes murky around 4’ deep. The beach is coarse and compact sand. The beach and green space are heavily used by locals and tourists alike. I find it a nice place to watch sunsets.

Do you need a permit to reserve a spot/grill or first come first serve to grills/area?

Unless you have a very large party its first come, first grab. I had called about a company party for 30 people because the website implies a permit is needed and they said "not necessary."

What is a typical cost for taxi/cabs from the airport to this location?

30.00. But after you get in go to trolley services. Pay for the Seven days even if your not there for seven. They take you everywhere. Loved the trolley service. You can look for all the different ones. If staying at hotel call some have there own pick and delivery service
