This tour of the Sacred sites, waterfalls, and movie locations with Mitch was an excellent tour!!!! He has got to be the most informative tour guide on the islands!! He took me and my mom, and the rest of the people deep into the forest and showed us very sacred Hawaiian sites, beautiful flowers, plants, trees, not to mention all of the historic sites!! We learned alot about Hawaii and it's rich history! Also what alot of the plants and trees were used for back in the day! Saw where they filmed some of the "Lost" episodes, and other films and tv shows!! We didn't get a chance to change our clothes or our shoes before our tour... so we went on the tour in flip flops !!! Mitch, being the gentleman tour guide that he is... he tried to go a little slower for us to keep up in our shoes, and he also carried my mom's large bag during the tour!! Mahalo Mitch... !! You made my mom's dream trip to Hawaii unforgetable!!!

It's a hike!!!!... loved it. Tennis shoes are ok if you mean business but you can certainly wear flip flops if you plan to go at a slower steady pace. The road is paved but quickly turns into uneven dirt/rock ( see photo ). The view up top is fantastic!!!!! Break out your cameras also perfect place to take out that selfie stick.. Ha!There is a hut looking structure before the final stairs, it's awesome, go in it... you'll see why. I won't spoil it for you. You can very well park your car in the neighborhood below for free but why???... parking is only $5. Bring water, a small backpack is useful because as you hike and your heart starts to pump, the last thing you want to do is hold on to anything. Breathe, just breathe! The walk down is super fast compared to the hike up so, enjoy it! Bathrooms are only on the bottom so make sure to use the facilities before your hike. There is a water fountain there and also a stand to get smoothies, sodas bottled water. Also no trash cans on the way up. That's why a backpack comes in handy! Have fun.

We met Mitch "Survivorman" (our own nickname for him) when he popped up on top of Diamond Head to talk about his trips. Somewhat skeptical it could be as good as he was saying, but willing to take the chance, we set out in his minibus a couple of days later, with another 15 or so people. From the moment we stepped on the bus until the trip ended Mitch was like a living Wikipedia of facts (the flora and fauna, Hawaii's history, how to survive in the forest). I mean, literally, this guy was talking nonstop for four hours...spinning off in crazy directions with facts and observations, a lot of good humour and good sense thrown in. He took us to sights I've never seen before, never knew existed on Oahu (having been at least 10 times before). We LOVED the trip, thought Mitch was one of the best tour guides we've ever had, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. Funny, surprising, unbelievably informative, and the real deal. I mean, this guy can start a fire with an ice cube and some coconut fibers. He is our choice for a partner on Survivor or Fear Factor!

I won't attempt to top the first two reviews on Mitch and his guided tour of off the path places in Oahu. Suffice it to say that I heartily agree with everything they had to say. Does Mitch every meet anyone except at the top of Diamond Head??? The time spent with Mitch flew. I was amazed that one man could talk so much...he was a bit hoarse by the end of his informative tour. Last year I visited Honolulu again and contacted Mitch. I was accompanied by two women with mobility issues, so the four hour tour would have been out of the question. Another shorter tour was scheduled in a few days, but Polynesian Cultural Center had already been booked. Mitch actually arranged a tour of the city and its surrounds for just the three of us in a car. He really wants to make sure that everyone sees some of "his" Oahu! Anyone visiting Oahu is missing out if they fail to book one of his tours. Visitors must see the Arizona, Punchbowl, etc. but should take a day for this as well.

We met Mitch at the top of Diamond Head (he was telling the crowd about his tour, looking to schedule a trip later that day)... that is a tough way to drum up business, so we liked him right away. We had eight of us in the group, including my parents (older) and four kids (younger). Mitch wanted to meet the kids first before scheduling the tour. We learned why Mitch wanted to meet the kids first part way through the tour. He took us to a very sacred and important site where we ran into some native Hawaiians that were very protective of the site... reverence and respect is a must... so if you have very young kids, this may not be the tour for you.
I would call the tour "Life According to Mitch" and it is great. Not only does he share with you some sites definitely off the beaten path of any other tour, his insights on Hawaii are fantastic. And if you are into diet, health, and wellness, his knowledge runs deep and he does an excellent job of weaving this knowledge into the narrative of the tour. Mitch knows his stuff and it makes for a very fun and informative four hours.
This is a great way to spend an afternoon in Honolulu. We made sure we signed his guest book and joined his Facebook page. If he offers another tour, hike, fishing trip, lecture at an auditorium... count us in.

A must do hike in Oahu! We took an uber to the base, it took 1-2 hours for us to finish the hike, we are fit and went at a fast pace. They have fresh coconuts at the base, I recommend one after the hike, neat experience.
