Living in Waikiki for two months, I was excited to get in as much diving as possible. After getting my open water certification elsewhere, I signed up for a few shallow dives with Waikiki and enjoyed spending time with the whole crew!! I ended up pursuing my advanced certification and signing up for the Dive Club, which included crazy savings.

Diving every week, Waikiki took care of me and guided me through my first deep dives, wreck dives and even some night dives!

I would really recommend people of all skill levels to sign up and start your exploration. It was very important to me as a novice diver to feel safe and in control. With Waikiki, every dive was briefed and well coordinated. Don’t be afraid to ask questions! The crew and captain are friendly and there to help, with lots of experience.

It has been truly amazing to be able to explore the underwater world. Huge thank you to the entire Waikiki dive center team with a special thank you to Jake for helping me complete my advanced certification. WE WILL BE BACK!!!

From the moment I walked into the store everyone I dealt with was enthusiastic and professional. Skippers Jim & Steve were excellent. They gave great safety briefings, and told us of some of the wonders that awaited us. The boat and equipmentwas first rate. Instructor Josh and Dive Masters Alex & Christian led us expertly on the various day and night dives. They emphasised safety and protection of the marine environment, whilst ensuring we got the most out of the experience. As a dive professional from another country I would recommend Waikiki Dive Centre to anyone wishing to enjoy the underwater attractions of this beautiful area.

I am a certified PADI open water diver and haven’t dove since 2017. We did the shallow reef 2 tank dive late January of 2023. I paid a little extra for the refresher. We reviewed basics and hand signals then once in the water did some regulator recovery and mask flooding. My dive master, Scott(?) was absolutely incredible and coached me through it all, even a small little anxiety attack. He had us holding all types of sea stars, slugs, and more plus some fun little under water tricks, like a flip and headstand.
Our first dive was 55 ft and the second was a max of 30ft. Either way I felt ultimately safe and empowered to jump back into diving.
We saw sea turtles and a baby white tip(?) shark.
We did have a few ppl get sea sick as the conditions were a bit rough, but a little dramamine and some ginger chews and you’ll be just fine!!!
Highly recommend for anyone who needs a bit of a refresh, an intro to diving, or a taste of Hawaiian diving. (Our friend who is a local, came with and had a great time.)
Thanks to the whole team at Waikiki Dive Center

I signed up for the 2-tank refresher dives as I had not been scuba diving in over 10 years. I knew I would need to demonstrate to the dive master that I still knew what I was doing and could complete some of the simple exercises like clearing the mask and regulator retrieval. The dive master was Josh and I was put with his group of 3 other divers who were working on their OWD for certification and on the first dive was stuck snorkeling for 30 - 45 min while waiting for them to go through their required exercises. My other option was to sit on the boat and wait but I wanted to be in the water. When we finally got to submerge, I had to just stand around on the bottom or hang on to the anchor rope while the students ran through some more exercises. I was glad to finally be scuba diving but this was a lame dive just hanging out in one spot. At least a sea turtle swam over and past while I was hanging onto the rope. But, even though I still had half a tank of air left, our bottom time was short and we had to surface as the students were likely low on air since they had been using their tanks longer than I. The second dive was again in the same spot at the anchor rope and I again had to stand around at the bottom for 20 min or more to wait for the students to complete their skills tests. When they finally completed those, we swam around the area and found another sea turtle and small shark resting under a coral head. Those two somewhat salvaged the dive for me. However, I would not recommend going on a refresher dive with the Waikiki Dive Center as I don't believe I received the value of what I paid for. Josh is a very nice person and competent dive master who thanked me for being patient with the students and waiting for them to complete what they needed to pass their certification. I think I would have been happier if he offered to comp my next dive trip.

We did the three day package. The web site lists multiple dive sites, however we did the same two locations on all 6 dives (Sea Tiger & Kewalo pipe). Both dive sites are about a 5 minute boat ride from the dock and are right next to each other. When we informed them we already did these dives, their response was "there will be different fish".

Our last Dive was a night dive. One of the individuals in our group was low on air. Instead of staying with this individual our dive guide (Donovan) swam extremely far ahead leaving this individual behind. When we arrived at the line this individual raced up the line as he was completely out of air. Although no safety stop was required there was no guide anywhere near him. He literally had zero air when reaching the surface.

Kira is by far the best guide we had. Jared is a close second. They were very professional & attentive. Chad and Mike 8/10. Donovan and Rachel 4/10.

I have approximately 40 dives with multiple dive shops. So far this shop is my least favorite. This is the first time I have ever wrote a review on a dive shop.

I would not recommend this shop!!!

Aloha Slcjt, Without any flare or announcements, we bought the business six weeks ago and have steadily been implementing changes specifically designed to enhance the overall experience. Although a lot of things have been done, there is much left to do. We encourage you to try our service again - you will not be disappointed!

Divers, stay away from this shop!

I signed up to do Advanced Open Water certification with this shop and had a horrible experience.

First, they don't offer knowledge reviews for AOW training (I got the book from them, not e-learning). I was simply given the book and asked to read it.

Second, the shop is run in a way that dive masters for each dive are not even informed that they are taking on an AOW student and which specialty adventure dive the student is doing. They did not assign the same instructor for the students and my dive log was not even filled if I didn't ask for it. My first two dives were with a good and responsible instructor (Jared) but I had to tell him I was doing the course, clearly the shop did not. On my third dive (navigational, a required dive to complete the certification), the instructor taught me nothing (no underwater exercise) and I did not even see a compass. I also felt unsafe about how the dive was run.

When I communicated with the owner, Nick, he was neither polite or apologetic. I paid for a 6 dives package to complete my certification course and I asked for a refund for 4 dives (as my third dive was a complete waste towards my certification). He refused and accused me of showing up at the shop without reading the book, which I did. During my interactions with the shop, I was never once asked to go over the exercise in the book nor given a classroom session.

Also, one local diver on the boat told me it's the most unprofessional dive shop on the island, he only did dives with them when all other shops were booked. Enough said there.

Go somewhere else, there are plenty of choices in Honolulu.

If you are new to diving and this is one of your first dives, I really recommend you to AVOID this place. Today was my second diving experience (the first one I luckily did with a different company). There were 4 beginners total to dive together. Before the dive, our instructors (Marco & Marcy):
1. Did not explain our gear (some of it is critical underwater - like checking our own oxygen level)
2. Did not walk us through the process. As a new diver, I would like to be prepared in advance. There were lots of confusion underwater in the beginning.
3. Did not check if we had any problems with our equipment. The mask they gave me at the store was fogging even after cleaning it with anti-fog liquid. My first dive I couldn’t see the reef clearly. Before I went down for the second time, the boat captain (yes, not the instructor who was supposed to ensure my safety), found a new mask for me.
4. Could not help me with malfunctioning equipment underwater (new mask was leaking air and created vacuum/pressure as I was going deeper) and I had to end my second dive before reaching the floor. I was sent to the surface by myself while instructor continued with the remaining 3 people.
5. Didn’t check on me or any other person post dive. After they failed with my equipment, they didn’t stop by to see if I was ok to at least soften the situation a little bit.
Huge disappointment. Wasted money and time. Also they were running late (1,5 hrs of waiting for a van to take us to the boat), so our afternoon plans had to be canceled. Stay away!

Unfortunately I can't recommend this tour. The boat, shop and van is crammed with people - and similar to the equipment (more on this later) is in disrepair. Tldr; my regulator failed underwater and so did the back up. And I had to use my friend's and resurface and abandon the first dive. At no point was I offered a refund, or acknowledged that the issue was 1) poor equipment 2) poor divers to instructors ratio (esp with a lot of beginner divers and 3) no safety checks on the boat.

The crew itself was helpful and pleasant which I added a star for. Oh did I mention, the instructor actively carried and passed around a sea cushion and passively allowed a diver to touch a turtle. No-no. Your life is worth more than the budget savings

Aloha Wakai808, The Waikiki Dive Center was purchased by Kalani Kai Sports, LLC on September 1, 2021. In the first six weeks of this this revitalization project, the store has been remodeled, vehicles replaced, and several employees have been separated. At the same time, pleasant, friendly, and customer focused people have recently joined the team. Experts in the fields of safety, reliability, and customer services have been promoted and a comprehensive operations manual has been created. The operations at the Waikiki Dive Center have dramatically improved, thanks to the resilience and determination of the entire team. We encourage you to give us a try again, and I am certain that your expectations will be far exceeded.

Awesome dive shop; fun, thorough, friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging. Shout out to Oscar on the phone and at the desk for helpful and encouraging booking service. I didn’t dive with Josh but he gave an engaging and thorough briefing to his students and included certified divers as well at the shop. Did 2 dives with Red who was helpful. He encouraged me to do the deep dive to Sea Tiger which was amazing. I did 6 dives with Alex over 3 outings. He was great at pointing out critters and managed the groups well keeping them together and tracking people. Captains Steve and Jim were helpful and friendly. Everyone I worked with was chill and fun but also safety oriented and thorough. Great shop!

TERRIBLE experience, I strongly advise you not book with this group. First, they delayed our excursion from Monday to Wednesday because their boat was being repaired. One Wednesday morning we showed up at the scheduled time, and sat for 1 hour in the lobby before being driven to the marina. Once we were at the marina, we stood in the parking lot for the scuba training (why couldn't they do this when we sat in the lobby for 1 hour? Also, we weren't scuba diving, we were snorkeling). Their main boat had not passed Coast Guard inspection, so we went to the smallest boat in the marina. It was not seaworthy. The water was choppy and it was listing to one side so badly that waves were coming in over the deck. Very scary. They drove 5 minutes out of the marina and stopped, handed my a buoy with a flag and to me to be careful snorkeling, it's a highly trafficked area. the "snorkeling expedition" was not led by any guide nor was it a group. I got in the water hoping for the best, and saw nothing. Nothing. Snorkeling was better at the beach near my hotel in Waikiki. I got back on the boat and said there's nothing to see and the captain got very mean and defensive. He told me to swim 100 years out and I'd see a pipe where fish swim around. Swim 100 yards away by myself in a highly trafficked boat area to look at a pipe? No thank you. I stayed put and waited for the scuba divers to come up. When they did, one of the divers had a mask spattered with blood, a sure sign they descended or ascended too quickly with the guide. I'm sure they could blame the novice scuba diver for not following the training given in the parking lot, but come on. The whole thing was a huge waste of time at best, very scary and unsafe at worst. Don't do it!!!

Hi there, I'm very sorry for your snorkeling experience on our other boat. Yes, you aren't wrong that our bigger boat was at annual dry dock for scheduled maintenance. We have taken actions to communicate in more details for what we expect. And yes, the smaller boat is USCG certified for diving. Snorkeling is optional if customer prefers. Please contact the shop 808-922-2121 and let us assist you further. Again I appreciate you taking the time help us to improve.
