We booked the tour as we thought it was an ideal way to see the valley and vist film sets from Jurassic Park etc.
Arrived at 10am, guide arrived shortly after. He introduced himself, checked everyone in, then announced he would have to call for another bus, as there were too many of us. We climbed aboard first bus, to be driven to the back of the building...... we could have all walked!
The bikes were laid out on the grass after been taken out of a shipping container.
We were allocated bikes, we are experienced bikers and ended up with kids bikes, not in the best condition and dirty.
We rode around a field to see if the bikes were ok, this is because when the tours end, they are not cleaned or checked, just putback into the container.
We had a safety talk, were given snack bars and water, this seemed to take forever. The guides filled their water pouches up, and got their bikes checked...surely they should have got their gear etc ready before we arrived.
Eventually after 80 mins we set off.
We had 2 guides, unfortunately I can’t remember the girls name, however she was very enthusiastic, obviously loved biking, and showing off her island home.
Ranolph however, having just return from a 2 week vacation, was still in holiday mode, I have never met a guide so unmotivated, and actually appeared hung over, he kept disappearing into the bushes.....
It was quiet a large group, however there were options of single track or easier trails, most of us took the few opportunités for the single track, much to Ranolphs displeasure, as he was hoping to take a slower group.
The scenery was amazing and we enjoyed seeing the valley on bikes rather than a tour bus, or ATV’s.
We biked for approx 3 hours, with plenty of opportunities for photos along the way.
We returned back to the ranch for a much needed lunch.
Disappointed only to have a half a sandwich, packet of crisps and water, albeit icy cold.
We paid $135pp, for a tour on hard tail bikes, that hadn’t been cleaned from previous rides, with one guide, who really didn’t give much instruction to those who clearly hadn’t ridden mountain bikes before.
All in all, find it hard to recommend the tour at this price, lunch was pretty appalling.
The whole experience could have been improved, if the bikes had been checked before putting back into the shipping container. Kids bikes given to kids!!!!!!! Full sandwich and maybe piece of fruit, and choice of soft drinks?????
Apparently Bike Hawaii will not be operating next year, as the ranch will organise their own tours, hopefully in a more professional manner.
