Just another nice beach
Mar 2021
Less crowded that the nearby beaches in the heart of Hawaii. Paved walkway goes along beach down to the Hilton. Several shaded pavilions with concrete tables and stools along the way. Proximity to the Steak Shack a big plus.

Beautiful Park
Aug 2019
Oahu has so many nice shady grassy parks along the beach you really never have to worry about getting overheated or not having a cool place to sit and rest! ( There is so much more walking than you anticipate) This is adjacent to the museum near Hilton and Halekoa hotels with restrooms and picnic Ares.

Our tour driver described it as "Hawaii before tourists"
Mar 2020
Our driver said that this park will forever look like what Hawaii used to be before the tourists. As a state park these lands will not be developed further and that it will be the grassy paradise that Hawaii was for the past 1,000s of years.

It certainly stands out from the rest of the southern shores with it flat grassy plains and it beautiful trees.

Lots of amenities for military and retirees
Mar 2020
The park is well maintained with the Hale Koa being the main attraction. Good affordable restaurants and well located parking make this worth the stop.

Beautiful park and beach
Feb 2020
A lovely oasis right on Waikiki beach. With all the hotels and tourists lined up along the beach it was wonderful coming across this park in which to relax and get away from the busyness.

Just North Of Waikiki
Feb 2020
This is a beach north of Waikiki down to the boat harbor. There is a large park that is inland of the beach which is quite nice and shaded for those hot summer days. The park also includes the Army Museum.

Spacious Beach Sea Turtles Water Activities
Oct 2019
This has to be one of the best beaches in Waikiki, if for no other reason than the amount of spacious sand to hang out on. You really have everything at this beach: Water and Beach rentals (discounts if you have your military ID) - Volleyball Courts - Food Concessions - Nice safe low water for kids - Deeper water for adults; and now for my favorite part: Sea Turtles, yes - just offshore about 3/4 of the way out to the white buoys you can see the Hawksbill Sea Turtle. This area has whats called Sea Lettuce on the bottom about 15 feet down, which the Sea Turtles love to eat. So because they have to come to the surface for a breath about every 10 minutes, you can see them surfacing and hanging out for 10 to 15 seconds (as long as you stay clear and they do not feel threatened) before diving back down for more Sea Lettuce. If for any reason you are not able to enjoy viewing the Sea Turtles and would like to see them, just google:
thomas filming sea turtles and all of my youtube videos will come up - I freedive and film them both on the surface and on the bottom - this is accomplished only after special care is taken to allow them to acclimate to my presence - you should never lunge at or attempt to touch them, this scares them and they will dart away from you immediately!
So yes, I highly recommend this particular beach over any other in Waikiki.
Have a safe blessed vacation - Aloha

Well Kept Park
Feb 2020
Fort DeRussy is a nice place to get away from the hustle and
bustle on Honolulu . A lot of shade for a long walk and also
some pockets of history located throughout . A good place to take the little ones to run around
