I’m am here on Oahu for business until December. I’ve always wanted to get my open water scuba certification. I have done recreational dive trip where you don’t have to be certified, but I decide I’d like to go ahead and get the full course and certification.
I looked around at a lot of dive shops in the Honolulu Pearl Harbor area. In my research I found basically that Island Divers / Honolulu Scuba offered the best all-around package for me. They have a very knowledgeable and friendly staff! Pricing was extremely competitive. For the package I received, the best price available.
They gave me a military discount because I work with a military and I am a veteran… helped me with gear selection for me to purchase personally, (although I could have rented the gear as part of the price which is one of the things that made it attractive to begin with). While other places offered good pricing, purchasing your own equipment was a requirement. I wasn’t sure I wanted to go there because I wasn’t sure I was going to like it enough to continue doing it. Island divers in Hawaii Kai allowed me to rent the gear and then apply the rental price towards a purchase if that was my decision after the fact. I did purchase my gear at a discount and they were very helpful in guiding me in my selections. Tim at Island divers was a real asset and help during this process. But I have to get props to Adam Mirri, Capt. Steve, Millie and the entire group!
We were in a group class originally of four but ended up being five. Our instructor Nick Was informative, patient, helpful all the way around, and truly exhibited excitement and enthusiasm for diving as a whole. It was easy to tell that he loves what he does, and just makes a difference when you’re teaching others! He was very patient and wise as I had a few difficulties right on our first open water dive. His advice and approach help me to get past the difficulties and the stress they caused. Thank you so much Nick! Have you not handled that first dive the way you did, I might not have gained the confidence to complete the course! Special thanks to Mirri for taking the time to talk with me and give me a good practical advice while we were on the boat! Good luck on your dive master certification!!
An amazing experience thank you all so much I’m sure we will see each other again before this trip is over and any other subsequent business trips I make here! It truly was a blast!

Tim and his colleagues were absolutely friendly, inviting, warm and humerous in welcoming my family and I to their dive shop. My 2 girls were doing their AOW while I was a Leisure Diver. Nothing is ever impossible for Tim and his crew and they made sure that we were all well looked after. It all bodes well from the foundation which their Owner Matt, had set for the company.
I always believed that you can tell the company culture from the way the employees operate the business.
From the Boat Captain, to the Deck Hand, to their Instructors, everyone ensured that safety briefings were taken seriously and divers safety and equipment checks were always priority.

We highly recommend doing the Whale Watching (during the season) with them. My family and I were extremely blown away by the awe and fantastic opportunity to get close enough to experience the Humpback Whales.

Well done to Matt and team, and we look forward to returning to dive with you guys again!

Went on the Friday night fireworks cruise dive. David was our dive guide/instructor, Kevin our boat diver, and Melanie(I may be messing that up) helping out. Everyone was incredibly nice. David was genuinely excited the whole time. His enthusiasm carried over to the rest of the divers. The. Dive sites themselves were phenomenal. Weather didn't cooperate entirely, so a dusk and night dive turned into my very first 2 night dives. My only regret was not bringing my friends along to this dive. These guys are my first choice in company and crew to go diving with, and I would highly recommend them to anybody looking for a fun dive. Thank you guys so much!

I had a great time diving with DJ. He is a very experienced and knowledgeable technical dive instructor and I got to learn how to use a DPV while doing my tech diving. On top of that, he gave me the flexibility and choice on what type of dive I wanted to do, ie. Wreck, wall, deep reef and more. All my tanks were filled on time and I never felt rushed to get ready. I would highly recommend anyone who would like to do tech diving (O/C and CCR) in Oahu to contact DJ!

We had an excellent dive trip with these guys. The equipment was excellent. Everything worked really well. Josie was a great dive leader who did a great job of finding creatures and helped us with our usual minor issues. I recommend them and look forward to taking another trip with this crew soon, hopefully to check out one of the morning wreck dives.

I recently did the 2-day PADI Open Water certification, and it was amazing! On the first day, I had Pascal as my instructor. He has been diving all around the world, with a tremendous level of experience to share and learn from. He was very informative, and genuinely enjoyed answering all my questions. In the morning, we did some skills tests in a small lagoon near the shop. After lunch, the students and instructors went out on a short boat ride for our first proper dive. Everything went smoothly, as we learned to use all our equipment and continued with more testing, both at the surface and approximately 30 ft.

My second day of training took place at the sister shop, Island Divers (same company). Sammy was my instructor for the day. She is a very experienced and knowledgeable diver, and helped me understand how to calibrate ones breath for proper buoyancy. We did some morning tests in the pool, followed by lunch, and then final assessment tests off the boat at Koko crater. Many turtles hang out here.

For the last dive of the day, we were fortunate enough to have the right conditions and personnel to do a drift dive (my first). A special thanks to Matt for making this possible, and thank you Sammy for being our trusted leader. The dive took place at the ‘China Walls’/‘Spitting Caves’ site - a long stretch of rock wall with a variety of caves and ledges to explore. The visibility was excellent, and we saw some whitetip reef sharks, a baby turtle, and an octopus. It was such an incredible experience.

I cannot say enough good things about Island Divers/Honolulu Scuba. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Thank you for picking me up and dropping me off each day. I hope to dive with you all again soon!

Cheers!
Tim

I would highly recommend HSC as a company to go with if you're looking at getting certified for diving. The employees there are all very helpful and friendly. Especially our instructor Anna, she has such a good attitude and is knowledgeable. It makes our group feel more excited than nervous.

Went to the Dive shop to look at fins and maybe book a trip as I live on Maui and I am not that familiar with Oahu. The shop has a really good selection and one of the dive masters, Carrie was there to help me figure out which fins would work best for what I want. She was very knowledgeable and had a lot of good information. She also showed me some photos she had recently taken on a wreck dive that had a lot of cool marine life so booked a trip for the next day as conditions seemed good. She also showed me the benefits of using a dive computer (safety stop info for example). She was helpful but not pushy - and I learned a lot. I could tell she felt that it was just a really good safety device for any diver. Mahalo for all of your help.

This was the most thrilling and the scariest thing i have ever done and I have even been skydiving! I really appreciated that the members on the boat pointed things out and educated us on where we were and the type of fish and creatures we saw. They asked what we wanted to see and they did their best to make it happen. I even felt very sick after coming up the first time and had to sit on the edge of the boat and everyone was so nice and thoughtful by giving me water or by saying that they would wait for me to feel better before we got back in the water. I even told them I had to get back for my work trip and they booked it back for me!
