Overview
More
The resting place for more than 25,000 victims of three American Wars - World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War – this is truly the “Cemetery of Heroes.” Punchbowl was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity. A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs that, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range. Of special note is a monument honoring Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who perished aboard the Challenger space shuttle in 1986. Also noteworthy are the Courts of the Missing, white stone tablets bearing the names of those missing in action from World War II.

We visited the National Cemetery to visit the graves of the Forgotten 98. These civilians lost their lives on Wake Island in 1943. Few remember their sacrifice for our Country. Their mass grave site was wonderfully preserved and in a beautiful location. Plan to spend...More

Briefly visited this memorial whilst on a tour which included Pearl Harbour and the Missouri. Beautifully manicured grounds and well maintained memorials made this a fitting place in which to reflect about those who had given their lives in the service of their country.

Very quiet and peaceful place. Cars came and left as well as a few buses and tour mini buses during our visit but plenty of space to reflect as in no way a busy location. We were fortunate enough to hear the bell tower just...More

This was a beautiful drive, and we seen so much additional on the way. Housing and subdivisions, along with memorial was a great day. Took tour bus making it more enjoyable not to worry where we were or how to get back.

A good place to take it all in and rest a bit before any major activities for the day. I do recommend stopping by.

Good place to walk around, see the views of Honolulu and learn some history of the US involvement in the Pacific theater during WW II. Beautifully landscaped grounds.

A very well kept cemetery. I would have loved to have spent longer there and walked around, unfortunately we were on a bus tour - which was excellent - so didn't have that luxury.

When you look across the rolling lawns and note that all the blemishes are tombstones it should give you pause. When you visit the murals covering the battles of WW II it will refresh your memory or educate you on the vastness of the Pacific...More

If this is your first visit, you need a GPS or map to find it as its only entrance is located in a residential area. Almost always has construction going on. Landscape is well maintained. Beautiful lookout at this cemetery. Take the time to walk...More

There are numerous flower shops that are right down the road in Chinatown that has beautiful flower arrangements. Safeway is also down the street at the corner of King and Pali. Nothing is sold on site.
