Visiting from NZ we decided to head into Ala Moana for some shopping. Getting there is easy for those you live in Waikiki as you can catch the pink trolley and access ala moana for $2.
The mall itself is huge, I would probably recommend two days dedicated to this mall (if you get tired from walking). We thougbt we covered everything in day 1 till we left and found out there was more shops.
As we visited close to new years they had yearly sales so we saved a lot. It is a must do along with waikele

We stayed in Waikiki for 6 nights and 3 of those days we came to Ala moana center. The food court here is amazing and prices reasonable. The mall itself is huge with a foodland also. A taxi typically cost around $10 from Hilton Hawaiian village and taxis are easy to find near foodland. The kids loved waking in the mall and playing games in the arcade.

We had not been to Ala Moana Center since the 70's so what a huge difference. It is 4 stories and is so big that if you see something buy it right then because you may never find the store again! It was Lunar New Year and the day we were there the Chinese dragons and drums were there blessing each store for the new year. It was very fun to see them, however, after an hour or so the noise was really loud on your eardrums especially, when you were in the same store as they were.
The Center offers free parking which is nice since there isn't much free parking in Honolulu. There are a lot of high end stores but lots of nice more affordable shopping as well. There is food both restaurants and fast items. The Center has been touted as the largest outdoor shopping mall in the world---it is big. Highly recommend seeing it if you have time on Oahu.

We were just In Waikiki for a week at the Hilton and wanted to visit this mall after a number of years.
Great variety of shops where we found some very good items at a variety of prices. Purchased (2) great Hawaiian designed iPhone covers at a kiosk with great service and you can get sparkly "bling" items added. They had a very large selection.

Yes this is a good size mall, but not as big as many people make out - maybe they haven’t been to malls in Asia! There are good food courts, some quite expensive high end shops but we found a great shop just out from the food court on the bottom floor walking towards the underground caroark. It sells as new, second hand high end product, at a portion of the price. Bought some Nike shoes which retail for over $400 US and cost me $40 US and they look perfect. Easy mall to get to by either public transport, taxi or Uber.

January sales are sooo good here some things as cheap as waikele outlets but you have to search for things. This place is so large unless you rush around you will need more than a day. Lots of places to eat both food court downstairs and also the lanai upstairs with good restaurants. Coming back for sure.

Great place to people watch, eat, shop, or just hang out. There is a shop and eatery for every taste. The mall is exceptionally clean and typically every time you enter the public restroom, the janitorial staff is cleaning.
We spent several hours over several days taking advanced Apple training classes at the Apple Store. The screen is huge with plenty of seating.
Every high end shop is available and the food court is so large you might get lost.
East to get to from the Honolulu Trolley and city box. You can even walk there, a good exercise walk from Waikiki. But if you walk the entire mall, you’ll plenty of exercise.
Great enjoyable mall. I agree, more of a Center. Oh, you can even buy a Tesla.

If you need more than just a cup of Starbucks to refresh yourself, be that mid morning or mid afternoon, Ala Moana is a pretty good place to stop for a couple of hours a a whole day. The 2 big food courts truly caters to most anyone's craving for a bit different the fast food joints on the mainland. With over 300 some stores covering the very affordable to chic brand name boutiques, they got it all here. Our 1/2 hour stop turned out to be 5 hours and repeated 3 times in 2 weeks. Worth it, every bit well done.

This indoor mall would be a better experience if the layout was more efficient. Our hotel wasn't to far away so I stopped by three times to this outdoor mall area. The layout is confusing and there is no maps displayed to find your way around this beast. It't popular but it's frustrating when you are trying to eat or shop and can't find what you are looking for.

The Ala Moana Centre was just a short walk from the second floor of our hotel (Ala Moana Hotel) and across the car park into the mall.
This mall is the worlds largest open-air shopping mall and the ninth largest shopping mall in the United States.
This mall offers upscale retail shopping, a large food court, a large Japanese only food court and beer garden, a supermarket and lots of bars and restaurants.
If you dont like shopping like myself, I spent time in one of many bars offering happy hours whilst my wife had some retail therapy.
The mall has something for everybody.

pretty sure they don't but you can leave your luggage with the porters who have the luggage in an area only accessible by them so it would be safe.

Se non ricordo male non ci sono supermercati ma solo negozi e boutique e qualche ristorante
Al livello più basso, quello dei parcheggi, ci sono poi i ristoranti quelli più economici

Anyone compared prices from the UK to this shopping mall? It would be interesting to know if it was cheaper here rather than in the U.K.
Anyone else know if the mall is more expensive than say shopping in San Fran?
Thanks everyone- pretty random questions but it would be great to find some answers out before I begin my shopping.

Unfortunately I haven't compared prices. I think it depends on what your looking for, they do have a Nordstrom there that has sales for high end stuff but limited selections. The other readers are right about going to the outlet malls far cheaper but don't have the really high end stores like Chanel or Gucci etc. Another choice is to go to the DFS duty free malls. you'll save a little there on high end stuff.

Do they still have free shuttle bus from Ala moana to waikiki vice versa? I went there dec 2014 and they had free shuttle from Ala Moana, I'm going back there in October. Do they still have this?

We did not find a free shuttle but we took a low cost shuttle that left from near our hotel
