We just attended a birthday party (for a large group of energetic 5 year olds) at the Hawaii Nature Center - and it was FANTASTIC. The Nature Center provided (very patient) guides who led the kids on a bug hunt in a nearby field and fishing for shrimp in the adjacent stream. After a break for birthday cake, they concluded... A nice 2-1/2 mile hike with parking below the Hawaii nature Center. Be prepared for over 800 feet of climb in the first 3/4 of a mile. This is not a wide, well-groomed trail but a real experience of the Hawaii trails. Beautiful views worth the extra effort it takes to climb what the locals refer to as "Hogsback". Bring... More

Grand-daughter attends Summer camp program for two years. Has been both very educational and loads of fun. We hike as a family . . . Was do-able even with 22 month old in back pack carrier! If you enjoy the beauty and excitement of Hawaii's nature and aina ... this is the place to explore.

It can be sunny in the city and pouring back in the valley. You can begin several hikes here ranging from one mile to... More

This is one my favorite places to take my kids. The hiking trails are not too difficult. There's a small stream. It's a wonderful bit of nature, just minutes from the city.
