I came here with a friend and took an informative tour of the facility before doing a wine tasting of 6 varieties. I really appreciate the fact that the wine is 100% grown and produced on site by students. They turned out a fine product. The tasting room, patio and nearby vineyards are gorgeous, as well as views from the hillside overlooking the valley. This is a very unique experience and a must-try if you are in the area.

we had a lovely wine tasting experience at the Southwest Wine Center in Clarksdale, Arizona. The students are learning to make and market wines and have a beautiful tasting room looking out over the vineyards and the natural beauty of the high desert. the wines were actually pretty good and it is great to see a new industry being born in the desert.

The location is on the college campus, which runs the vineyards and winery as part of an educational program. Fabulous reds, and a delicious white from this facility, which is run by students and staff. Much has gone into the development of this program and they are understandably proud of their many accomplishments and awards. Take a few friends, settle in on the comfy outdoor furniture, sip some wine and enjoy the beautiful scenery beyond the picturesque vineyards. (There is an indoor seating area as well.) Along the way, you might learn something new!

The Southwest Wine Center, located on the Verde Campus of Yavapai College in Clarkdale, AZ, is well worth a stop. There are a number of fine wine tasting establishments in the Verde Valley, but the SWC is unique: It's also a classroom for students studying every aspect of viticulture and oenology. With a knowledgable staff, enthusiastic students, and comfortable surroundings, the SWC offers a very nice flight of local wines, or you can purchase a glass or bottle at a reasonable cost. The seating is limited during the winter, but warmer weather will bring great outdoor seating.

Oh my gosh! Loved this place! We thought we were going to the wrong place cuz it’s part of a college but what a gem!! College students/people run and make the wine. They name the wine they make! The room is quaint and the host was a “student” who was retired and doing this for fun. I would highly recommend this unassuming place. I’ve been to Napa and Sonoma many times over 40 years…this wine area is like those places used to be

I have been involved with the Southwest Wine Center when it was an idea and the building housed the racquetball courts for Yavapai College. I planted vines as the vineyards were just getting planted and I am proud to say that the vines have grown along with the program! We recently went to a wine dinner and all of the wines were made by students in the program and they are REALLY good! The tasting room is an experience with many wines to try. The building is minimalist and functional with the vineyards surrounding the site. Check out the Founders Wall. Go for a tour and tasting. Impressive level of commitment from the College and the community.

We were fortunate to have another winery suggest we visit the Southwest Wine Center at Yavapai College. We arrived about an hour before closing and were greeted by the nicest gentleman who not only guided us through a couple of tastings (red and white) but also gave us a tour of the winery. The wines were very good and we loved learning about the Viticulture and Enology coursework at the college. If I lived closer I would certainly consider taking this coursework, it appears to be an incredible experience.
Loved everything about our tasting and tour - highly recommended!!!

Wow are we lucky to have the Southwest Wine Center at Yavapai College! Not only do they have award winning, yummy wines, the wine is made by the students and many made from the vineyard right there. There is a full 2 year program to learn all the basics about producing wine. They learn everything from planting the vineyard to harvesting to producing to working a tasting room.
They have some exceptional wines, beautiful views of the vineyard, the mountains, red rocks of Sedona and a very comfortable tasting area. It's a bit of a unknown to many, even locals, so usually not crowded, at not yet that is. :)

The Southwest Wine Center is operated as part of the Yavapai College program in Viticulture and Enology. The wines are very good to excellent and all produced by college students. The faculty and students staff the tasting room and provide an academic perspective on Arizona wine and the Arizona wine industry. If you like wine then this is a VERY enjoyable place to spend a few hours.

Great to see what a.local junior college is doing to prepare students with hands on training in the wine industry! Staff is friendly and informative, wines are well crafted by the students! They are producing a very competitive product. The facility and 13 acres of vinyards ( if I remember correctly) are gorgeous! Loved the xeriscape plantings and wildflowers surrounding the facility. Well done! A must see when visiting the Verde Valley wine country.
