A friend told us about this place and I am glad we made a point to stop here. I love to cook and they had a wonderful selection of spices and condiments to purchase. The Mexican vanilla was the best price I found and I picked up scorpion and cricket suckers for the grandkids. I made 2 stops to pick up great souvenir gifts for friends and family.

We found out about this place after having their picante sauce at a local restaurant. We went to check it out and they have everything from cookbooks to about every type of Southwest spice and more. The owner gave us a tour and was extremely knowledgeable about all things peppers!

Green chili salsa. Lots of others too, but that's my favorite. Reminded me of Hatch chili. Purchased one jar-Will return! Found some great recipes too. Yum! Interesting, informative.

Santa Cruz Chili & Spice Company is a small family-owned business. The chili products reflect the unique mixture of Mexican and Western cultures that are so much a part of the Santa Cruz Valley. The flavors are pure and authentic.

The day we last visited was a wonderful celebration of Mexican Independence Day and we were treated to generous samples of food and margaritas.

Dr. Neubauer then took us on a tour of the pristine factory explaining the history of the company. I even got a signed cookbook and stocked up on my favorite spices and new to me spices...all in all a very enjoyable day.

...because your luggage will smell like this Spice Factory when you're done!

Love this stop along 19 - you can get almost any spice you want or need in bigger quantities and of much higher quality than you could at any grocery store. It's not just Mexican/SW spices, either (although those are all so amazingly delicious) either!

Some of my favorites:
Lime Pepper (genius - and much tastier than the usual "lemon pepper" situation)
Chardonnay Sea Salt (sprinkle this on unsalted butter and serve with crusty French bread for a heavenly pre-dinner course...)
Taco Supreme (because, well.... TACOS)
Fajita Seasoning (I stock up here once or twice a year and never get anything else)
Guacamole mix (makes a spicy guac SUPER easy to make).

Honestly - I've never gotten anything in which I've been disappointed, but those are my "must buys" every time I come.

Did I mention I live in Seattle?! So worth it.

When we drive down to visit the Mission, we always stop at the Santa Cruz Chili & Spice Company. They're just across the street. We shop for ourselves, and we shop for our Massachusetts friends, who love these spices, and cannot get them readily and fresh in New England.

As soon as you walk in, the aroma hits you. It's a small place, but the shelves and tables are loaded with spices. There are so many, that most often (for us) it is hard to choose, but then the staff there is very friendly, and will help you out. They, also, sell postcards (6 for $1.00, so it's worth getting your Grand Canyon postcards here, as up there, the same ones are 59 cents each!)

You can taste salsa, and when we were there a few days ago, we tasted the most heavenly honey. No pressure about buying, they are happy if you just come in to enjoy the smells. In fact, you can browse all you want, while they go about their work. Should you want service, you ring a bell. The bathroom is super clean.

We live in WI and have been getting the prime rib seasoning from here for many years. It is the best rub for all steaks and roasts. The other spice are also fantastic. We don't buy from any place else anymore. Reasonably priced and worth the trip if you are within a 100 miles. You can also have them shipped to your home. My family also loves the place. My brother who lives in Tucson will make a visit there before he comes home and bring a big order for the family in Wisconsin.

We had high hopes, but turned out to be a waste of time...they don't make spices here, they just mix bulk purchased spices. The products sold seem to be overprices vs the same products found in Tucson.

Thank you for your feedback, always appreciated. Yes, we do not make our spices. When my father first started adding spices to his inventory in the 1970s, he began selling to the small “mom and pop” grocers in southern Arizona. He looked around the world for the best and most authentic items he could find. We use that network today (now fulfilled by large importers) to stock our Spice shop in Tumacacori. We work to keep our variety and pricing In line with the market, but always appreciated feedback. Again thank you.

Santa Cruz offers a plethora of spices, jellies, sauces, mixes, candy, books and small houseware items. A fun and funky place! And the aromas....ahhhhh!

Santa Cruz Chili & Spice company is a great stop on your way to Nogales, or visiting Tubac or the Tumacacori Mission. It's quaint, includes some fun history from the ranching family that owns it (including fun photos and artifacts), but best of all they have the BEST salsas and spices. For any spice or spice blend you may need (or others you didn't even know you needed), it's definitely worth the stop!
