About
“More of an Art Museum than a Car Museum,” we celebrate the Machine Age, when art and automobiles came together. With access to more than 200 of the most remarkable and rare vehicles ever made, the Museum takes pride in its ability to display automobiles from 1899 to modern day. Vehicles are chosen specifically and showcased based on ever-changing exhibition themes. By displaying 15-20 cars at a time, the Museum gives patrons and enthusiasts of all ages a completely unique experience with each visit. "Preserving Newport's History One Car At A Time."

My husband (the car enthusiast) had to drop something off in Fall River and we had a few hours to wait. Since the weather was unpleasant we scratched other Newport plans and he wanted to go to this museum to see their Supercar Exhibit. We completely missed it the when we drove by but ended up in the Stop and Shop Parking lot. The museum is sitting right on the road (not sure why we missed it). You can pay $7 to park in the public lot next to it (Stop and Shop strip mall lot). The museum is small and unless you are a super mega enthusiast that must study every single detail multiple times over I can't imagine you'd need more than an hour. We spent a good 45 minutes in there. I think there was about 15ish cars. It's kind of a like an art installation about cars and has each car well labeled with a blurb about what it is and why it's a supercar. My husband enjoyed it and even though I really don't care about cars and know next to nothing about them I still enjoyed looking at the cars because a lot of them were very rare and very fancy with odd features. I must have excellent taste because I picked the $5M Bugatti as my favorite. :-D The person checking people in said they completely change out the exhibit every 3 months. We enjoyed checking this place out.

We come here every time we are in Newport and they always have great displays. My hubby is a car guy and there are always people there to discuss the cars. Its small so it a managible space to walk through, not too much at all, I enjoy the beauty and the history of the cars they always have an interesting theme and display, probably our favorite place in Newport.

Audrain was part of my family’s recent trip to Newport and was interesting to me and my 15 year old. In fact, I recommend the following if you are traveling with a teenager:
Cliff Walk
Touro Synagogue (if you are of this faith group) and the historic district around it.
The Breakers
Any Harbor cruise.
Newport is absolutely delightful and magical. There is a reason the Vanderbilts and their cohort decided to built “cottages” there.

This is a small museum with themed exhibits that change quarterly. I loved the building and the exhibit "Land Yachts Cruising the Interstate Highways" and they way the cars are displayed. A great little gem on Bellevue Avenue.
Here is the trick...all the parking lots surrounding the museum charge for parking, so go into one of the stores in the strip mall buy something and then that store will validate your parking ticket. We needed drinks and snacks anyway. Easy!

I like cars. I'm not an enthusiast, but I do love the sweetness of design and I can appreciate some of the engineering brilliance that goes into the workings of classic vehicles.
This is at once a wonderland for folks like me and a terrific museum for buffs.
The site is small, two substantial rooms and two smaller areas (one off and one between), but the curatoirs pack the area with a nice number of automotive gems to dazzle the eye and mind.
The exhibition we saw was very much a museum presentation, a history of the development of illumination for cars.from a 1901 model with gas lamps where headlights are today through recent model autos and a racer with the latest in electronic brilliance. The greatness of the show is how much is conveyed within the Audrain's limitations.
Beyond the physical space, Nancy and her staff people bring the outer world to visitors with their caring and knowledgeable help.
Hope folks can get there before the show ends in early August, but expect the museum to be just as entertaining and instructive in future.

Our visit included historic cars of the Newport elite along with women's clothing related to driving over the years. It was an excellent display. The museum rotates its exhibits every three months, so repeated visits are worthwhile.

My husband and I went to this museum as it was a rainy day in Newport and they happened to have a new exhibit called "Women at the Wheel". It was lovely and the co-mingling of fashion and cars from a bygone era was a nice touch. It is a small enough museum that you can visit in 30 minutes and we both left with a smile on our faces.

Audrain hosts a Motor Week and Concours d'Elegance in late September. The museum is small (only a dozen or so vehicles) but the exhibits rotate regularly. The staff is well-informed and helpful. Although small, this museum is top-notch, and as an enthusiast, I have visited museums around the world.

If you have any interest in cars....old cars stop here.
I learned the museum owner has a very large collection and every 3 months they change the cars that they display. Docents are all very knowledgeable and fun to listen to the banter and hear the history and the stories of days gone by.

My wife and I enjoyed the Audrain. The museum is modestly sized, but the present exhibit offered a wide variety of American and overseas marques. And Norris recommended we come back for the Concourse and Motor Week in October.

Don't know if it is still relevant but the museum is a reasonable walking distance from the Marriott. I would estimate 10-12 blocks, mostly uphill.

There is parking in the lot near the museum. The collection rotates and is relatively small. Our visit was only an hour. It's not cheap, but the cars are in excellent condition.

Can you tell me about how long a typical visit would last? Thank you!

An hour will be plenty of time for most people, allowing time to view/photograph each car from every angle and to read all of the information in each vehicle's ipad display. Serious gearheads who find a museum employee or another similarly interested visitor could easily spend the better part of a day trading stories and information. There is no cap on the amount of time you stay for a single admission other than the operating hours of the museum.
